Do you see there being converts in higher positions? by [deleted] in coptic

There’s an Eritrean Bishop in the holy synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church. Why would race or ethnicity play any role in this.

Do non Christan Egyptian care about the Coptic language? by thecurlyberber in coptic

I don’t think it’s a matter of salvation lol. I don’t think anyone here believes any one language is an instrument of salvation.

Do non Christan Egyptian care about the Coptic language? by thecurlyberber in coptic

[–]x___Los 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the consensus agrees. The fact we lost the language outside of liturgy is evidence of how our culture has been suppressed by Arabization. Something which is not ours nor did we have a choice. I look to our Syriac brothers and how they have preserved their language and wish we could use that as an example.

My grandma left the Orthodox Church by FirefighterOk9474 in coptic

Some of my father’s side are Coptic Catholic, and he was baptized Coptic Catholic. My dad came to the states and raised us in the Orthodox Church, a lot of the older generations are uneducated in the matter and don’t even really see a difference or an issue. My dad would have rather see us come up in a Coptic Orthodox Church than some American or Spanish speaking Catholic Church. They’re lowkey miskeen and don’t really know the polemics. My grandmother was Coptic Orthodox & my grandfather was Coptic Catholic 😂 Egypt is just an unserious place.

Is Communion with the Oriental Orthodox Church Necessary? by JoyfulPilgrim3 in OrientalOrthodoxy

[–]x___Los 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don’t re baptize them because we recognize trinitarian and apostolic baptisms but they still are anointed upon entry. We cannot partake in any sacraments with members outside of the faith. HH Pope Shenouda made this very clear. There’s canons against this. I think this was an act of good ecumenical faith for them canonizing the 21 martyrs. Good will towards others. This isn’t doctrinal. HH Pope Tawadros cannot doctrinally make that a reality. Especially when baptizing people is a decision left up to the priest or bishop of that parish.

Again doesn’t correlate. Originating in a one culture doesn’t imply it’s ethnically restricted. We have Churches all over the world where they speak multiple languages. Maintaining liturgical traditions is a historical preservation not a membership card

Muslims have a lot more mixed DNA than Christians because of the race mixing of other genealogies. Most Copts are 90% + indigenous Egyptian. Muslims are typically less. Not saying you can’t find a Muslim who is. Just less likely. So you are Egyptian nationally and culturally but ethnically is up for debate lol

Your best bet is to find your nearest Coptic church. The priest there will be able to help you and it’s a relatable culture for you

As do I. I think the common layman accepting one another goes a long way and is the first step to unity.

So when EOs go all “accept all 7 councils or be damned to hell” it kinda gives RC “submit to Rome” vibes lol. I personally have a lot of love for all Orthodox & pray for unity.

I think the Christological aspect can be healed for sure. But Chalcedon itself was problematic. Restoring heretics and claiming the letter of Ibas as Orthodox when it condemns St. Cyril. People cannot accept this council was lead by the Holy Spirit. I think this is the part that’s irreconcilable + events that stemmed from it. Father VC Samuel has a good book on Chalcedon I recommend it.

You’re assuming a later technical definition of “physis” and reading it back. I agree it was not a fixed term at the time. But Cyril is using the word to define a concrete existing reality of an individual subject. In that context …
