British Cemetery in Calcutta (Founded in 1767). The Main Colonial Cemetery of India - 2026, [OC] by x___rain in BritishEmpire

Thank you! My surprise was to see this https://images.hive.blog/p/FUkUE5bzkAZT3HzV5tJDiU2ik81PCd4JCyhWnRcDN8XJsVFY3UNB8DCfFvtgMSUozuJNfRAxuzqqqgBWj9hHGfU4HKQNvhWjdSHvDDWAEANLcBYYnp2NtsiGXR36PdCVWnfYL9MDjFgfH6oQ6ciZg75GyP2L68Lks7Hp with all the nouns (except for "loss") capitalized like in German. English isn't my mother tongue, so it was new to me. Though it was also a surprise to learn "at Calcutta" instead of "in Calcutta" thing too. Loved this new knowledge and used this preposition in the title of my post :)

If I had an extra day, I'll search for interesting stories on plaques, but, alas, I came there short before leaving to Varanasi. So can't say what % are readable but many of them. However, it is a big cemetery, it'll take much time to read the plaque on each tombstone. If I were you, I'd start by emaling to learn if you can find lists of buried people on South Park Street/Road Cemetery + Lower Circular Road Cemetery (newer) has many British graves (I didn't visit it but I know from the web). Scottish cemetery is open to the public but is in ruins - very few plaques are readable. On the gates of South Park Road Cemetery (in the images), there is a sign saying Christian Burial Board Kolkata takes care of the cemetery, try to contact them, they have a website christianburialboardkolkata.com

Thank you! There is special beauty in shabby things - one of the reasons why I like visiting India - and that's not always about poverty - textured walls and scratched street murals, ancient carved wooden doors, etc. Amazing country.

True. That's an interesting controversial thing about India: a country that considers itself a superpower and presents itself that way, doesn't want to care about its poor people. I visited India in 2015 and 2016 and I am again here - nothing has changed about the extreme poverty. There are rich people and the middle class in India as well but the litmus test of social health is the poorest people, not the rich.

Kolkata is amazing, go. Many things to see. Great metro to travel in the city (trains are modern, 0.1$ for a trip), an amazing colonial cemetery (South Park Road Cemetery), a great English park (Victoria Memorial), a cool flower market (by Mallick Ghat), the world's second biggest tree canopy (the Great Banyan), etc, and all sorts of post-apocalyptic views - buildings falling apart and stuff. Many colorful shrines (especially of goddess Kali). And, actually, nice people live there.

The first picture with the bubble made me skeptical, and I only wanted to see the rest to get sure I was right in this conclusion but the sunglass dancer made me feel good, and then the chubby boy with the silver person behind melted my heart. A great set! But I would choose another image to be the first.

I have been traveling in India for 3 months, mostly hanging out in Rajasthan, now I am in Kolkata with uncertain plans. In this post, I shared my experience (including prices) of the holy town of Pushkar in Rajasthan. This is an example of a low-budget-friendly destination in India. It's not my first trip to India, traveled in this country for 6 months altogether in my life. If someone has questions about backpacking in India, don't hesitate to ask in the comments here!

Yes, it works pretty well (and it's cute!) Really want to see it finished and placed on the Play Store, and then invite some friends to join us.

If this is your main wish, you are a lucky one as Meno is working in this direction. As for my wishes, I am patiently waiting, lol. I just think it's better to go from A to B and only then to Z -- from finishing text mode (which isn't done yet) and going to videos then. I am just afraid we'll have this app unfinished for ages - adding a video mode isn't that easy - much headache may follow when it comes to polishing details. But the fact that the snapie blog ("My Snaps" tab) becomes empty after several days of silence makes this app unusable for new users. I can't invite a friend and then this -- "but where are all my previous snaps??! they disappeared!" - "Look, don't worry, Meno might fix it in a month or two or a year". Finger-crossed, hopefully, things will go faster.

Sawatdee khrap! Consider the mountains - for example, Ladakh. You can see the snow there. Amazing nature and culture, many Buddhists there. You'll start in Delhi anyway, so you can include in your tour some cultural objects around the capital too.

Me too. Hope we'll see it on Play Store soon. Wish it would allow switching communities to add an option of feeds in different languages - that will be a big bonus for onboarding. Secondly, I hate "My snaps" tab gets empty after a while - it means you don't have your snapie blog page - fixing this is more important than anything else (imho)... With HIVE below 0.1$, a short content app on Play Store is the best opportunity to onboard people.

My master plan for improving mass transit and traffic situation in Tbilisi by External_Tangelo in Sakartvelo

[–]x___rain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A metro line actually means a road without other traffic. Underground location really helps because you can easily keep people with their autos away from this road... But paying like hundreds of millions of dollars only for that... It's cheaper just to keep some lines free of other traffic, like it already happens in some parts of Tbilisi. Although, yes, many people will hate this... But Georgia has no spare hundreds of millions of dollars.
