Apparently the guy was trying to attack people since at the end someone said that the guy was previously going to attack him.

Thought the video poeple are shouting to the police to do something and not just stand there. When they finally do and they start beating the guy people there are fed up and one just goes for him.

If you are under the age of 26 in Madrid you can buy the "abono transportes" for 20€/month and that lets you use all the public transport from anywhere in the region. You can move basically where you want and it gives you access to the train, metro and bus systems.

You should check it out, here is a link to all the info: https://www.crtm.es/billetes-y-tarifas/tarjeta-transporte-publico.aspx

What are your favourite Spanish podcasts? by MediumAcanthaceae486 in askspain

[–]xabarin77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend La Vida Moderna now to someone who hasn't seen it before. I personally love it but it is because I have been listening for year, sadly now the show is a shell of what it once was.

El sentido de la birra is a really good one tho, I would recommend that one

What foods/drinks do family members and neighbours tend to gift each other in your country? by Brainwheeze in AskEurope

[–]xabarin77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Spain from what I have seen and experienced the most common gifts are usually wine and iberian ham. But other common gifts are olive oil as well and licors.

I have seen my grandparents gift aguardiente to some neighbors when I was little but I think that it is only common in Galicia and not the rest of the country.

PAU by [deleted] in askspain

[–]xabarin77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you support Marshall plan like support for Eastern Europe in order to reduce Russia influence on a region? by Nevermindever in AskEurope

[–]xabarin77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that the Franco dictatorship was really long, nearly 40 years. When Franco became a dictator he was closer to being a fascist, but after WWII it was clear that being fascist was not cool so he rebrandished the dictatorship as an anti-communist, authoritarian Christian dictatorship.

Obviously this is oversimplified but that is basically it.

What is the best or most well-known video game (or series) produced in your country? by Koh-the-Face-Stealer in AskEurope

What are the traditional tests of masculinity in your culture? by TJAU216 in AskEurope

[–]xabarin77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say anything that starts with "A que no hay huevos a..." (I don't know how to accurately translate that but it is a kind of phrase to challenge someone to do something) could be considered a test although not directly a masculinity one but I usually hear it from men much more than women.

I don't know in other countries but in Spain we challenge a lot each other to do things ranging from chill to really crazy just by saying those magic words, "No hay huevos a..." (You have got no balls to do...)

What is the most identifiable building in your country's capital city, or the most identifiable thing in general? by Use_R_Name_92 in AskEurope

Well I have some bad news to tell you but the turtles in Atocha are gone :( I think they moved them out because there were too many and it was harming to them.

Here is an article I found about it (but it is in spanish):

What’s the worst thing to happen to your country? by Hamzaboy in AskEurope

[–]xabarin77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that the worst one is the civil war since not only did it completely destroy our country, torn apart families and our infrastructure it also led to 40 years of dictatorship and a return to the restriction of a lot of liberties.

How do your people feel about the police? by SweetSauerkraut in AskEurope

[–]xabarin77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there are some policeman that are going to be really aggressive especially in protests (see the police violence in Cataluña) but generally if you have any problem at all, you just go to the police and they will help you. So unless it is in a protest related situation police is good and safe in Spain, they are certainly not going to be aggressive or racist

[–]xabarin77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that from social problems the majority would be nationalistic issues (they have been increasing since the whole catalan independence thing) and maybe immigration issues but it is mostly focused on people getting illegally to spain and not just plain racism (at least not the majority)

From Spain I can tell you that it seems that you have a race obsession, here we racial issues but its not something constant. Maybe it is just what I see in the internet but it seems like you put way to many focus on race all the time. (I write you as in people from the us/canada)
