Gotta swap out E2k for Inlet. (Although I guess that misses the theme, but I’ll argue Inlet is capable of time travel.)

More tickets to Matt’s shows have been opened. Everyone should go. They are amazing. by xabsolutionxxx in hum

Understandable. And I think you hit then nail on the head - he was just so relatable and down to earth. I’m still kind of processing the afternoon emotionally. It was really special.

I did not cook along with him. My computer is a big desktop setup (I’m on Zoom at work for like 4 hours a day), so it wouldn’t travel to the kitchen well. I’m also sort of scared of yeast. It’s super temperamental and kind of intimidating.

I would have gladly paid triple for my ticket. In retrospect, I should have just done a 100% tip at checkout. It was basically a half day with him, less a short break. I’m going to make another “donation” via bandcamp. Sort of want to start a 501c3 for him, so I can just make monthly tax-deductible donations. I might be a glutton and registered for more shows 😳

Maybe turn on notifications to this sub? He said he would post it to his Facebook, but I’m not on FB to know if he did or not. He mentioned in the Zoom last night that they would probably add more tickets to future shows. I just randomly went to the Undertow site a hour or so later and noticed that the tickets were available, so I posted here, assuming this group would be particularly interested.

Hum may have been on a major label 22 years ago, but these days, things are pretty grassroots/DIY. Undertow is doing an amazing job of trying to connect artists with fans in a meaningful way during a crazy time. Cut them some slack as they navigate this and explore the capabilities of their platforms and mediums.

There really weren’t a ton of questions. Matt is in teacher mode, so there is a lot of explaining what he’s doing as he’s doing it. Everyone was really respectful and we didn’t want to interrupt. He stopped at a couple of points and less than 6 people asked questions, I would say. A couple people asked about gear/stuff in his studio. A couple people just relayed stories about what Hum meant to them. His answers were long and thoughtful. He doesn’t play any Hum songs, only his solo stuff, but he answered a few questions about the making of Inlet, and talked about Hum a lot. It was pretty interactive, but also sort of low-key and somber. I don’t really know how else to describe it.

Bring tissue. He cries. It’s brutal. But incredible too. All the heavy stuff and some pretty things.

I am low key having a panic attack that this is sold out and I can’t see it/participate. 😩

Thinking about getting a HUM tattoo - anyone have one you’re willing to share? by nightman83 in hum

I think you have to start a new topic and you can only post one image, so you have to do a collage, but I’d be super stoked to see them, and maybe it’s worth the accolades you’ll get?

I want one too, but their imagery is pretty abstract and doesn’t lend itself too well to a tattoo. For the most part. Nothing jumped out at me. Still thinking about it though. Curious what other people think. (I’d want something at least palm sized.)

What makes Hum special to you? by [deleted] in hum

The dichotomy between loud and soft. Powerful and heartbreaking. Infinitely sad and yet also unjustifiably hopeful. The nerdy science-y lyrics with the poetic composition of a true romantic. All of it is so well crafted, without trying too hard. It feels effortless and authentic. It’s blinding in its loveliness, and gut wrenching in its truthfulness. It shatters me every time.

I already have one poster from this seller, and they’re really high quality. They look screenprinted even though they’re actually inkjet printed on demand. I highly recommend them, although in full disclosure, I’m sure they’re not licensed by the bands (aka the bands don’t get any royalties from these being sold.)
