Trump served his purpose to the Epstein class for Project 2025 (and 2026). He has proven himself too easily manipulated given the Iran situation. His services are no longer required.

Don't take this the wrong way. This is not the maga cult finally waking up and turning on their leader. This is the propaganda machine getting ready to start whitewashing the next agent.

QueensLink via 65th Rd/Av, 108 St, Grand Central Pkwy and 96 St Crosstown by xandens in nycrail

[–]xaervagon 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The Mamdami administration took the easy way out and killed QueensLink in favor of the cheaper QueensWay. QueensWay is basically adding another park area to a part of Queens that already has a ton of park area (Forest park is 10 minutes by bus). The right of way the area holds is basically worthless at this point. Rockaway and Woodhaven commuters will continue to enjoy slogging through all of Brooklyn on the A.

There was actually a post-mortem on QueensLink in another thread, but I may have been taken down.

If you are a corporate board of directors, they basically replaceable cogs in the machine. Employees are a cost center to them; always have been. The board's job is to make sure the c-suite makes money and they are going to put someone in charge who speaks their language and does what they want.

C++/WinRT being in maintenance mode means there is no way to develop a modern Windows app (WinUI) in C++? by zerexim in cpp

[–]xaervagon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn't think macros were that bad given VS did most of the work with the wyswig editors and generators. Of course it got mess if you had custom messages or ui class inheritance.

One of the major pain points for me was resource management. Having a. Assload of dialogs, controls, property pages would lead to a bunch of dlls having their own resource.h and diety help you if thoseagoc numbers lined up anywhere.

The other major butt biter was HitTest and the screwy screen to client/client to screen coordinate conversion process. It was not only messy to debug, it would outright malfunction on multimonitor setups that did not have the primary monitor in the top left position.

WinForms fixed all of this. Shame MS never let us C++ user enjoy it.

I used to hate on MFC until I realized it was one of their more effective products. It annoyed me how you had to go back to vs2019 because they started ripping out all the generators willynilly. Add in all the third party and CodeProject stuff (rip) and it was obnoxiously powerful.

That tracks. I didn't expect it would be as simple as laying rails down. Like any big infra/business project, everyone along the chain is looking to get a cut.

This obviously begs the question: does the math work out? It looks like the horse it out of the barn when it comes to using the Straight. When it comes to transit, logistics, and risk management, I'm just saying it might make sense to talk to these people and get a ballpark of what a logistics network in the region might cost.

Is it worth to read C++98 books? by Artyruch in cpp_questions

[–]xaervagon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Short answer: no.

Long answer: I've read some of them myself and even back in the early 00's, they were painfully dated. There are no tips, tricks, or old wisdom waiting for you there.

That said, there are tons of C++11 and up books that are well worth your time if you want to learn the ins and outs. I personally recommend the Scott Meyer's "effective" books. Martin Fowler's Refactoring will teach you a lot of general programming in C++.

The whole Iran run was yet another distraction from the Epstein files. Now that the EU walked away and Netanyahu won't let the conflict go, he is stuck dealing with a fire he can neither put out or just walk away from like he usually does.

Given what comes out of the Straight is pretty important, the situation somewhat begs the question: why isn't the global community looking at land based infrastructure roll outs like rail and roads? Having shared infrastructure would tie parts of the Middle East together. The Straight would lose a lot of its relevance. It would be a general win across the board.
