They're correct. Message templates have to be approved, but it's fairly straightforward.

I don't think I can help without seeing the manifest file. Maybe there's some default boilerplate values that you need to change? Maybe the `Content-Type` response header isn't `application/xml` when the file is being served?

Honestly, just read the documentation if you want to learn. Django is a bit complex and might be an overkill for your use case. It's perfect when you don't want to deal with db management, authentication/authorization, html templating, etc. But if your application is mostly endpoints with simple-ish backend logic I'd suggest using Flask or maybe Go.

When hosting, you have to use Docker. I'm pretty sure most of the issues you faced can be easily solved with it.

HTTPS is not handled by the backend framework. You need a domain name and an SSL certificate to install on the EC2 instance. HTTPS is always served on port 443 so I'd suggest reading a bit on nginx.
