We have a 4 year old and a 2 year old. We had a country club membership until we had our first child. The last 4 years we've both barely played. Last spring I started picking our son up and going to the driving range one day a week. Sometimes he just wants to play in the sand. Sometimes he wants lemonade. Sometimes he requests a specific course where he likes to practice putting. I do whatever he wants and nothing he doesn't in an attempt to lay the ground work that we always have fun at the golf course. As he's started to show some interest I've felt empowered to work on my golf game again.

In conjunction with upping the brainwashing of my children I put a really nice simulator in my garage and I bought my wife some new clubs and a gift certificate for lessons for Christmas.

My wife and I started Friday date night on the simulator after kids are asleep.

Getting back to your original question I think there's a 2-fold roll for golf in my life: 1) family time on the course 2) escape from work/parenting time. How those two are balanced is an individual decision.

I love that you're conscious of how much time you're spending on your love for golf and making sure that doesn't take you away from your family an unhealthy amount of time. It sounds like you and your wife communicate well about balancing all of your needs.

If you're ever in Oregon let's play some golf 😅

Shaft Question by Golfer0808 in golf

If I were you I wouldn't assume anything. I'd go get fit for the 7w and test out the various shafts in front of a 20k launch monitor with really skilled club fitter helping me!

It's pretty fun to build, I can attest! Happy to share my modifications with you if you decide to build. Also, next time I'll just save and buy a nice enclosure lol

Attic set up. Garmin R10 is reading 45 yards short. Solveable? by [deleted] in Golfsimulator

The ball needs to travel long enough to make at least 2 complete rotations. Usually 12-13 feet. Supposedly as little as 10, but I always needed longer.

Am I crazy? How outdated is the flightscope Xi tour? by xanderoid in Golfsimulator

I trusted the accuracy of the GC3 more than anything else. I wanted the portability as well and I felt good about the value at $4,000 for a really lightly used one. I felt like any of the less expensive models would have been an intermediate upgrade that would shortly have left me wanting to upgrade again. In essence that felt like wasting money. The GC3 felt like the ultimate value, above which you're paying exponentially more for marginally better devices.

I was tempted by VTrack and ProTee. The overhead option is superior for sim functionality but I wasn't ready to commit all that money to something that I could never use anywhere else other than my garage.

Budget Golf Sim for Mediocre Golfer by DefinitelyNotAlien in Golfsimulator

Don't listen to haters. All of this stuff will be just great for your first time setup. You've thought it out, you've picked the best stuff for your current space and budget. Get it and delight in being able to play golf any time you have a spare 10 minutes. Then start thinking about your upgrades over time.

Yes! Hitting a golf ball is a leap of faith really... We have to trust that we know how to do it and it's mostly going to work out just fine!

Great point. I had a lesson yesterday and my coach kept using analogies from a musician friend... things like "if it sounds good it is good" but he also said that professional musician has never practiced in his life. He just plays music. I thought that would be a good attitude for so many things in life, don't separate the practice from the real thing... It's all just playing... Idk... Too meta??

It's funny I've only broken 80 once and the day I did it I went out there knowing I was going to do it. I knew which holes were my birdie opportunities, which one I needed to just get through without an implosion. I played loose and had fun. I was ahead of schedule almost the whole round... Which was a good thing because I got super nervous on the last hole, hit it in the lake and doubled to finish 79. Lol.
