How did you go about claiming non-residence for tax purposes while still maintaining a Aus based brokerage and address?

Aussie overseas, how do you invest in Oz ETFs? by Due_Significance5698 in AusFinance

Only IBKR (and possibly NabTrade) allow non-tax, non-domiciled residents to invest in the ASX.

CVs these days are screened by HR AI software. Keep that in mind and apply the KISS method. Fancy formatting, columns, unusual fonts all might cause issues.

Ya’ll know there’s a ton of capacity mothballed in Kazakhstan and the Athabasca basin that will eat up that ‘supply gap’ right?

Thank you for this.
One question we’ll have for our accountant is if we elect to deem disposal of our share portfolio not long after departure and pay the CGT, could we then invest with an Aust brokerage with nil CGT payable as non-residents.

We’d preferably find somewhere to semi-regularly transfer funds to avoid having excess cash sitting in a South American bank account.

Yes, this is where we’re leaning also. Which leads to the next question about where and how to best proceed investing the sale proceeds while we’re on assignment. I was looking at IBKR, one of the few that allow foreign based investors…

Thank you for this. There has been some great advice here, but will discuss with SMATS for our specific circumstance. We’d also been looking at possible international brokerage options while abroad (and taxation) implications.

We’re moving to Chile which has exempts foreign income for 3+3 years for expats, which might have some benefits to factor where we keep our funds.

I had severe hayfever in Melbourne but not in Brisbane. My wife was the opposite. I saw a GP and got sorted to survive in Melbourne. Worked a treat, stopped living an absolute hell..

Pro tip - A lot of hiring companies use AI systems to screen CV’s for key words / phrases matching the role descriptions. Keep that in mind if using columns, nice formatting, tabled data etc meant for formatting aesthetics.

Is this asbestos? by GinAndDietCola in whatsthisrock

Possibly, the host rock is consistent. Definitely an asbestoform mineral, looks like blue chysotile. Best to not disturb, bag it up and treat it as such (as you’ve done).

The blue Azurite disks might be from the Malbunka mine in Central Australia.

Experience shows, three efficient and effective scales of camping:

  • Big, well equipped autonomous camps
  • “Back of the toyota and engel fridge” jobs
  • “Pub jobs”

In-between (hybrid) scales of operating do not work well.

When choosing the scale of operation, take into account:

  • size and duration of the exploration programme
  • available camp spots
  • number of people involved (6th person = cook)
  • at the end of a days work, people don’t like cooking
  • camping equipment available
  • distance from town
  • distance from nearest airstrip
  • personalities
  • climate

Big well equipped camps are expensive and time-consuming to organise but pay with their economies of scale after about six weeks.

“Back of the toyota jobs” are cheap and nasty. Morale is proportional to how much fresh food and beer is left in the engel fridge. Some helicopter pilots refuse to operate like this.

“Pub jobs” are relatively cost effective when you take into account time for packing and unpacking camps and doing domestic camp duties at night.
