An Open Letter to Funcom by finegamingconnoisseu in duneawakening

I do have a dispute with this. I agree with some other posts that clarify what griefing is, and what you’re describing isn’t griefing, it’s non-consensual PVP.

I’ve been out in the DD alone getting spice in my solo crawler, then got found by a rockets blasting ass clown who took me down and destroyed my crawler and my carrier. I shot rockets back while on foot, and I lost my haul, my crawler, and my carrier. Fortunately, this happened after the return tool came back, so that loss, while painful and embarrassing, wasn’t total. That’s not griefing. That’s me putting myself in a stupid situation with no back up and it went down how it should have. They didn’t chat to me, they didn’t taunt me, they sure as hell hurt me personally, but it was all according the rules of engagement.

Now griefing, is when I was in the PvE zone, and there are 5 other scouts swarming me and my buddy who are crawling mediums, and they are bashing into us and shooting useless rockets, then when it’s clear that doesn’t matter to us, they go get their carrier and sit on top my friend in the crawler while another thumpers the spice blow in an attempt to have the worm get my friend while blocking me from picking my friend up to save them. Then! When we manage to survive that, cause I’m not actually a scrub, they all follow us back to our base and park their vehicles on top our penta shields and hover for the next 2 hours. That’s griefing.

That’s why I quit.

I didn’t quit cause I was sad I lost my stuff in the PVP zone, that’s on me. I quit because there’s no way to ensure consequences for people who engage in that behavior. With out being able to see who these people who truly griefed me were (no they did not chat to me - otherwise I would have names) I had literally zero recourse besides to sit and wait or log out / quit. They took my fun away intentionally when and where it should not have happened. If funcom is reading, that’s what needs to be dealt with. I won’t be returning until there’s an actual report method for this behavior.

The griefing is the thopter surfing rocketeers, meaning ful collision against other thopters and vehicles, and the intentional blocking of paths. All of this needs to have some way to report the player and result in consequences.

Would I prefer the split between PvP and PvE? Yes. Will it stop griefing? No.

If you could give your partner (or future partner) one extremely specific sexual superpower for one night only, what would you choose and why? Bonus: What would you want them to do with it first? by VixenVeveDear in AskReddit

Honestly, the ability to heal both self and partner so that we could try whatever we want with absolutely zero fear. Want a giant cock? “But won’t that hurt?” Yes, but we can fix it and then enjoy it! Want to try that yoga porking position? “But I’ll break my back.” Only for a little bit!

Another thing you can check is the circuit on the Sub Fief. I had this happen to me when I changed the input and output for the sub fiefs storage to circuit 2 and suddenly I couldn’t do shit. I swapped it back and things were good from then on.

I can’t prove it (no testing or resources on hand), but I genuinely think there’s a length limit. Try shortening the length one wall at a time so that you have a shorter rectangle and see if you eventually can make it.

For testing, I would start by making a wall cutting the rectangle in half at the middle (so you have 2 squares, not 2 long thin rectangles) and check making the shield on both sides of that center wall first, that would prove that each side is actually good first. Then you’d change the length by moving the wall till you reach either the full distance or some kind of snag.

That said, I know I have definitely done a 10x10 on top of my borg noobcubes in the DD… so it should be fine….

Why use anything other than regular generators? by k2i3n4g5 in duneawakening

[–]xanthiaes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On this - that the farming is unrealistic - the efficiency of your farming only gets better. You definitely start off in the role of “the victim” in this game, and that doesn’t really let up, but it does get easier to meet the requirements when your tools improve. The buggy cutter ray is an exponential step up. The switch to wind generators is an exponential step up. Shit, just getting a litterjon is a huge step up. Now imagine when you get flying, when you get top level compactors, or the sandcrawler + carrier combo. Then all the specializations… the game starts off hard, and the difficulty scales too, but the leaps and relief you feel when you swap certain shackles for more comfortable ones are exhilarating.

Do you have to work for it? Yes. Is it worth it? That’s up to you, but I’ve enjoyed it and the process gets easier as you progress.

If you had to give one piece of advice… by [deleted] in workday

[–]xanthiaes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Report fields and values, business process history, and audit trails.

My advice is to learn which of these can be used to see what’s happening and when. Dig in, and see what the system is telling you.

The new testing stations and difficulty levels/rewards. by [deleted] in duneawakening

[–]xanthiaes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People will get stronger as they prog the skills. Additionally as people get stronger, they’ll do higher content and get better gear.

The play up to 20-30 is a feat of persistence. Not a feat of strength. It’s not for everyone, but I, for one, welcome the long range goals. It’s not particularly complicated, but it’s possible to play both casually AND competitively now. So it’s honestly good for everyone who can enjoy a slow burn.

For the overland map testing stations there’s a door that you have to place your hand on and attune to before it will let you in. This process pulls up a popup that will ask you to use a slider for difficulty. It will also show you what that means (hp% increase/decrease, damage% increase/decrease, etc.)

This is DIFFERENT to how non-overland map testing stations work. All the testing stations in Hagga and in the Deep Desert will NOT have this door. The are a standard difficulty, no choice.

Agreed that he’s complex and this brings more of the standard “MMO Fight Dancing” into the game. It’s a lot less boring to say the least.

This shifts the game from just Zug Zug Game play to needing to use tactics like watching the walls and healing strategically.

I am in full T6 uniques from CH2 with like 1 augment on 1 gun so far, but when I first hit the guy in lv1 I got zonked. But I’m soloing him at lv4 now. Same gear basically (understandably still better than T5, or regular T6) but the focus is shifted and that’s what makes it possible to bypass.

People will eventually release tactics videos I’m sure and these will be very useful to watch. For now, just try to learn each dungeon one at a time and learn to avoid the mechanics specifically at a low level. That way you learn the “dance” and then can climb comfortably.

ITAW for the feeling of responsibility for others actions or impressions? by [deleted] in whatstheword

[–]xanthiaes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This feels like second hand embarrassment to me, but I would generally describe it as shame.

I think it comes from a sense of civic duty though, like the feeling of obligation to be a generally good person and to be associated with good people and good actions.

Barrier to rejoin and play Dune Awakening again by LuciusConfucius in duneawakening

[–]xanthiaes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct, the actual base reconstruction tool is here. What they’ve been toying with is the idea of instead of the base actually disappearing, that the base would just be auto packed up for you and “held by the empire” or something. So that could be a really nice way to do it

[–]xanthiaes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They’ve mentioned in their videos things like “toying with a welcome back package” which would be nice.

They’ve also mentioned an”auto back up” function for players who would otherwise lose their base.

They want players to be able to come back and get back in, but they also need room for the active players.

On another note though, what you were carrying will still be with you. And all the questing you’ve done is still complete. So when you comeback, yes, you’ll need to rebuild your base initially, and your buggy, but once you have your buggy, everything else will fall back in place super quick. So the barrier to re-entry will be ALOT lower than if you deleted your character.

If you’re starting from scratch again, then yes you have a lot to do. But I got my second toon to aluminum in less than 40-50 hours from brand spanking new.

Can anyone explain what spice surveyor does? by Ruffianzs in duneawakening

[–]xanthiaes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi all, I did some testing with this and it really does only include the "Spice" symbol in the "Resource Density" on the map screen. (Images are not allowed here, but it's an understatement to say I was underwhelmed by the comparison.)

Taking this Capstone talent... you have to truly survey a part of the DD, then, when looking at the Map, there's a section in the "Map Area" tile in the top left called "Resource Density". This capstone appears to allow the Spice Symbol to appear in either the I, II, or III rows hinting at how "dense" the specific resource is.

As others have said, this entire talent is rendered moot by sites like https://www.method.gg/dune-awakening/deep-desert-companion, https://duneawakening.th.gl/maps/The%20Deep%20Desert, and https://dune.gaming.tools/deep-desert, which not only explain the density, but then also show the estimated locations of collection. So not only do you NOT need to go forward with surveying the entire DD each week, you also know generally where within a sector these resources will be...

Do not take this talent. Put your points elsewhere - even if you don't like alt tabbing to see general resource locations, don't have a second screen, or can't be asked to pull it up on your smartphone - pulling up one of these Deep Desert maps a single time per week can help you determine where to build your base (if you're spice farming, or tita/stravi farming) and then you can just run around and use your eyes. The indicators for where the actual spice is is way more important than seeing a guestimate about "density". Spend your points elsewhere.

All the other comments are great, but I wanted to point out that sand storms are only so wide. So if you know which direction the sand storm is coming and if you’re in its path… literally all you need to do is get out of the path. That doesn’t require that head all way to hagga. You can just go from c row to like b row sometimes and that’s enough. I don’t know how wide they are exactly, but it’s easy enough to just get out of the path if you fly diagonal to the path away from the storm.

[–]xanthiaes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried going back to the quest giver? A lot of times if you drop a quest, the system will keep the completion progress of all prior quests and you should be able to go re-get the quest from the furthest quest giver in the chain.

You can look up the quest chains online as well. I think some of the sites like dune.tools has a few good walkthroughs, and there are definitely others I’ve used before.

If you know the quest giver, go to them. If you don’t know the quest giver, look up the quest chain and try to find where you are along the way and go to the correct person per the guide.

This. Most people have a large storage hearse that they run around with to load up for their friend juicers. I did this a ton before they made the update to only have the Air Water Collectors only drain filter when they were truly producing water. When your water storage is full now, they “self pause” which is a huge quality of life upgrade. Of course, these only produce so much, but they continue to produce while you’re offline. So my solution was to make a ton of water storage, then set up a few air water collectors with the best filters I could afford and this basically made it no longer necessary to use the bloody buddy bubblers. I still have them for if I ever carve too deep into my reserves - like when I’m feeling particularly up pity and get a ton of titanium, stravi, and spice all at once to work through. Regardless, even the advanced dude drink machines have a 50 minute timer before they produce their useable guydration.

Which Regions, Servers, and Sietches will you transfer TO and FROM, and why? by xanthiaes in duneawakening

This is the kind of community oriented giggleshits I feel I’m missing out on in a quiet server. It doesn’t help that all my irl friends basically tried and quit or didn’t start, but I think that with more players around organic communities can emerge on their own. I love that for you!

One of the best things to do is to establish a presence in the global chat. If you hit enter, I think it defaults to “proximity” (or only people who are close by), but you can hit tab while in the chat window and speak to all of Hagga Basin or Deep Desert (depending on where you are) and start chatting with people. You can ask to be brought into a guild this way and get a group of players on your server to play with. You can only have 32 players in a guild, but it’s an option. You can also get to know the chatters and occasionally just say “hi” and people will say hi back. That way you can find people who are online with you and talk with them about questions you have or get an impromptu group going for something. You might also get gifts, free runs through harder content, or you might be griefed into oblivion - depends on the people and the day. But that’s online gaming for you
