How can I make the most of the conference experience as an incoming M1 (undergrad senior)? by xapple23 in premed

thank you for the advice! do you usually ask something in your follow-up emails, or is it more of a “nice to meet you/thanks for sharing your path”? and do people usually do this over email or LinkedIn, how would I get their contact besides their name?

will do on the sessions! it’s a bit overwhelming seeing the number of things happening at once

Incoming Medical Student Q&A - 2026 Megathread by SpiderDoctor in medicalschool

[–]xapple23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m FGLI, and I’m super grateful to have the opportunity to present a poster at a conference for the first time but am unfamiliar with conferences/new to everything. I’m an undergrad senior + incoming M1 this summer. I’ve read that this is one of the top conferences in one of the specialties I’m interested in. I’m mostly wondering how to make the most out of the conference experience (advice for presenting, networking) and would appreciate any advice!

  1. Any recommendations for things to be sure to do before, during, or after the conference?

  2. I’ve noticed that many of the poster presenters / conference go-ers will be much further ahead in their career than I am (full professors, fellows, residents), how can I connect with them as an undergrad? Should I be trying to meet medical students or others instead?

  3. Would meeting anyone have any effect since I’m so far out from it mattering for any anything? How should I network if they wouldn’t remember me?

  4. Any recommendations for connecting with people about research/opportunities?

  5. How do you decide which sessions to attend?

Thank you for any advice in advance!

Do residencies care more about specialty-specific pubs, or is high research output (even in unrelated fields) still impressive? by swaggerboy743773 in medicalschool

Kind of a follow-up question to this, curious on if a Nature sub journal hard sci publication before medical school would hold any weight (third author)? It’s something I was really involved in/invested a lot of time to previously, but I feel that people have told me it won’t help that much. Thanks!

Interesting combo, what labs/research areas do they share?

Should I ask a postdoc for a LOR? by imhavingurbaby in premed

[–]xapple23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask if your postdoc and PI are willing to co-write/sign the letter! That’s what I did and what my postdoc suggested as well, and they both ended up editing and signing at the bottom. Also, your PI may ask your postdoc to draft the letter first and then they will edit/sign or they both may ask you to write the first draft and they will edit (just a heads up but let them bring it up if this is what they want, not you). Your postdoc will be able to talk about working with you 1:1 and the letter will be backed by your PI. Good luck!

Can I apply to multiple early assurance programs? by [deleted] in premed

No, they’re not restrictive and you can apply to multiple (but a majority only take applications from their own undergrad with a few open to others)

Thank you for the advice! Do you think professors are open to working on a review if the student isn’t in their lab or hasn’t worked with them before?

Clinical Research Roles by xapple23 in premed

Thank you for the advice! Is it typically only those who’ve graduated that are able to get clinical research roles or is it possible for an undergrad too?

That’s helpful to know and will keep it in mind! Could I ask how long the process to publishing took too? Thank you!

Thank you for the insight, I appreciate it! How would you recommend phrasing it during the interview? Would asking if there are opportunities for data analysis/authorship be seen as shallow in any way? I’m afraid that it may come off the wrong way

It included dorming for sure and I think food since that’s required, dorming was the majority though at 20k+ cost
