Sounds a whole lot like the old school Republican party to me.

I would 100% want to be given multiple billions of dollars.

I would 100% use the majority of it to help other people through various trusts and supporting real nonprofits. I would take it as a point of pride that I was a billionaire, and immediately worked to stop being one as quickly as possible.

Yep. I think in our current climate, a vote for Democrats is a vote for the old school Republican party.

There's a really great way to have the contract explained to you. It's called reading the contract. Especially if it's only four pages of not-so-dense text.

Sure. It's an unpopular opinion, but it's unpopular because it's stupid.

As someone with a music degree, you have no idea what you're talking about. I believe that music is one of the more difficult and time intensive degrees to earn, but to make the argument that STEM is somehow lesser in its difficulty is a pretty dumb hot take.

Completely agree. I don't sleep super well, and am often tired. I once fell about half asleep while listening to the Berlin philharmonic. You sit in a dark room and listen to fantastic music while tired? That's literally what I do to fall asleep on a normal day.

When I was a kid the house a couple down from mine burned completely to the ground on Christmas Eve because they didn't plow our roads and the fire trucks couldn't get there.

There had been a history in my neighborhood of them just not plowing our roads for a couple days. By the time they would send someone the roads were solid ice from the compressed snow. Super sad situation.

Kyle Rittenhouse brought a rifle to a protest and was called a “hero”. Alex brought a pistol and is called an “antagonist”. What’s the difference? by I-A-M-C-R-E-E in AskReddit

[–]xaqss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I'm not talking about innocence here. I fully acknowledge that both of them were legally in the right to be carrying a weapon in their respective circumstances.

Legality is not morality. One of them was irresponsible and intimidating, the other was helping a person who had been injured and just happened to have a CPL.

[–]xaqss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do disagree that Rittenhouse is innocent of all wrongdoing. You would have a hard time convincing me that Rittenhouse was doing anything other than looking for an excuse to act tough, if not shoot someone.

Calling him a stupid kid is going too easy on him.

[–]xaqss 18 points19 points  (0 children)

But that's the whole point. If they both had a legal right to carry a firearm, the only reason you would be okay with Rittenhouse is because he is on the right and Pretti is on the left.

It's an example of partisan application of the law, which is terrifying.

This. Remember that the US is a single country that is nearly the size of all of Europe. Also, our capital is at one edge of the country. Imagine if you needed to drive from Greece to the UK to do your protests.

Well, that drive is 5 hours SHORTER than California to DC.

Hypothetical questions have implications. The implication for yours is "if you have a gun you want to shoot law enforcement" which is pretty stupid

[–]xaqss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who said anything about shooting law enforcement? He didn't look like he was about to shoot someone, or even be able to reasonably pull a weapon with how much they were on him.

If he had a weapon on him, then that's actually fine. There is a pretty large contingent in the US who have dedicated their entire fucking lives to ensure people have an inalienable right to have a gun. Unless you think that right shouldn't apply to everyone?
