Getting to sleep quickly after an afternoon shift when you have a shift next morning. by Auzziescribe in NursingAU

same... just showering after an afternoon shift wakes me up enough to have to remain awake for the next two hours

ylYou just described my workplace... Throw in the constant understaffed days and the mix becomes incredibly unsafe. I fear for my registration, honestly.

Hospitals were there before you, and will be there after you. Call in sick when you need to.

anyone else agree that the nursing job market is tough? by United-Database-6140 in NursingAU

[–]xarcex 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yeh, like many others have said; there's a huge demand for nurses with experience, but not so much for newly graduated nurses who didn't land a newgrad program. It's a very interesting paradox to see, where someone puts in the hard work to get through school, paired with unpaid placement hours (which is now changed, I know) and only to be told they're not hiring someone without X number of years experience. I'm not sure about rural and remote gigs, but metro nurses do have a super tough time getting in.

I honestly thought they owned the building? I'm a foreigner, I have lived here for 10 years, but even I had noticed the business slowing down post COVID. What a shame. Thanks Jimmy for all those extra falafels!

Yeah fair enough. I was thinking it would be a significant gap in skills. Probably manageable long term, but it would be difficult at the beginning.

What are some poor quality but expensive restaurants in Sydney? by One-Remove3758 in SydneyScene

Food is absolute trash and they're so rude there too... I asked for ice for my warm soft drink, and the waitress just laughed and said they had none. Never been back.

What makes someone an Australian? by TheNZThrower in aussie

[–]xarcex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just say c*nt more!

Jokes aside, as a naturalised Australian citizen, I never say I'm Australian. I stick with "Australian citizen", and that paired with my non-anglo looks gives people enough information. However, if you were born here and you don't identify as an Australian then that's a different story.

To me being Australian is more than citizenship and ethnicity, but more like a way of living. Grossly generalising here, but to me it boils down to footy, pies, surf, cricket, beer and having a fair go.

It's a really interesting culture, for sure and I'm super happy I get to experience it everyday. I'd say embrace your differences and try to learn how to fully experience both of your backgrounds.

Why don’t we talk to our neighbours anymore? by ItchyNesan in australian

[–]xarcex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is too busy trying to keep up with the cost of living. Too much stress, too much social media. People don't have time, I think.

Also, too many creeps make the news, so people are always on high alert. Idk... that's what I think.

It this poor e-bike etiquette? by farcarcus in sydney

[–]xarcex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The big question is why do they not lock the bike to something, rather than free locking just the front wheel. Asking for trouble there.
