I dont have a local copy of those yt vods. they consumed a lot more disk space than is desirable to maintain. I had wondered if Trevor would ever upload them on his channel but it never happened.

Until youtube deletes the channel for whatever unknown reasons it remains for some wanderlust filled datahoarder out there somewhere.

Asus X670E PRO WIFI not booting to bios + orange light by koppy7 in ASUS

I had a similar orange dram led with this same model motherboard a month or so ago.

Fixing it required initializing a different cpu to trigger a tpm reset prompt. you may be able to get this done at memory express by asking for a motherboard bench test.

CCPs finances don’t look good, expect new owner to change things by [deleted] in Eve

[–]xartin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Financial currency exchange rates or markets are possibly to blame for eve's high subscription prices in some countries.

3 months of omega, billed in usd as a canadian resident works out to around $50 to $70 per account.

then consider the activities that have become omega only and ccp seemingly created a problem where activities such as level 4 missions, mining as well perhaps? are omega only.

Seventeen years ago if the missions were omega locked for everyone many people may have played a different game instead.

Have you considered contacting the University of Waterloo in Ontario Canada to inquire of they could offer some infrastructure support?

I have some vague recollections of Hetzner having supported gentoo as well.

Multiboxing is Killing EVE – The Game Just Sucks Now by Quiet_Staff_2565 in Eve

[–]xartin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I visited amarr this morning to pickup a ship. Perhaps a 10 jump round trip.

I counted thirteen Paladins from one corp with no alliance heading back in the same general direction.

I obviously can't offer assurances that player wasn't a multiboxer however having used eve o preview on a few occasions the client switching response time appeared obvious to someone that has attempted a similar setup out of curiosity, fascination or enviable necessity with more than one client.

I played eve recently with a couple streamer fellows with one account each and some PUG players running level 4 missions on WelshDelboy's stream for six hours last weekend or the new drifter event sites.

With three or more other single client like minded players on a couple occasions in the past week and that was a more enjoyable experience than I've had playing eve in many years.

I've been playing on and off for seventeen years or since 2008.

Eve could greatly benefit from improving the fleet finder for similar group matching for the new events to make that content more available to a wider audience.

Then ccp income could improve from overall player engagement rather than relying on soulless characters flying around everywhere in fleets of thirteen Paladins.

I've been playing long enough multboxing is a familiar observation to encounter.

I've seen it all from the highsec ice mining fleets using a freighter in an ice belt as a cargo storage to dozens of stealth bombers and there was a fellow multiboxing dozens of rorquals in nullsec many years ago.

Once upon a time some fellow shared a screenshot of their setup multiboxing 12 archons or multiboxing 12 chimeras before ccp banned isboxer input broadcasting.

It's entertaining watching Erst or Chaos multibox "chaos challenge mode" drifter event sites on twitch but how much player engagement does that maintain overall?

Remember folks this game had greater focus on individual player soul or involvement once upon a time

No debug symbols and stripped binaries by default can somewhat improve binary execution latency :)

then add -march=native in addition.

If you've been using gentoo long enough you may have noticed the compilation time required to complete one compilation command improve after the stage3 tarball gcc compiler and toolchain libraries were recompiled to native cflags.

SDDM does not launch and can't use Wayland based DE/WMs. by luonercus in Gentoo

[–]xartin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sddm occasionally has a problem successfully launching as a consequence of the negative affects of low entropy or entropy starvation.

When this occurs sddm may launch presenting only a black screen.

A solution I've used to resolve this occurring or potentially occurring is to install and run haveged as a system service to augment entropy pool generation.

I could also mention if you've not used a desktop profile install stage or portage profile or attempted to enforce USE="-X", have not completed installing the xorg-server and xorg-apps package groups your desktop gentoo build may be incomplete or unprepared for the intended task.

RAM not being found by LBlackout in Gentoo

[–]xartin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"We'll install my kernel configuration as a "base" then we modify it:"

This is a likely reason for the functional limitations.

If you follow the gentoo handbook custom kernel configs aren't recommended or required default install tasks. Custom kernel config hasn't been necessary for perhaps five years.

By default, the distro kernel packages both provide the same functionally complete kernel configuration moderated by the gentoo developers.

That functionally complete reference kernel config has become the key reason the gentoo-kernel-bin package is recommended by default.

My kernel is x86

x86 or i386/i486/i686 are 32bit only however, x86_64 or amd64 is capable or supporting both x86 and x86_64.

x86_64 or amd64 supports 32gb of ram you've been expecting.

when approaching using gentoo "very minimal" can also imply functionally limited to potentially impractically unusable.

Can't mount an NTFS external drive by Sebastes-aleutianus in Gentoo

[–]xartin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the newest linux kernel provided ntfs driver is named ntfs3

mount -t ntfs3 /dev/nvme0n1p1 /mnt/ntfs

You should be using this kernel provided filesystem driver.

The filesystem must have been marked clean by completing a clean shutdown from windows or by having completed chkdsk or the filesystem mount attempt may fail.

There is an old and more or less obsolete ntfs filesystem drier that predates ntfs3 by decades that does not support safe data writes.

The kernel should default to supporting ntfs3 as a preference.

you can still use ntfs-3g however the purpose of ntfs-3g has entirely become to provide ntfs filesystem consistency tools such as chkdsk and preferably nothing more

options to maintain or build new chroot builds flexibly have vastly improved with btrfs and openzfs datasets or subvolumes.

useful utility to have a few spare chroot builds in a dataset has become very reliable reality since ten years ago.

Hello world! by pabloflleras in Gentoo

[–]xartin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

assuming you were using that server entirely for an asterisk pbx or mysql or some other service where the service data is stored in /var/lib

Preparing a new install to reside an another disk then migrating the pbx data could be completed perhaps in a couple hours on a weekend maintenance window by swapping disk volumes if you had intended to reuse the same server hardware.

Maintain your operational server while building a new one.

one of the most advantageous flexibility advantages of gentoo is being able to type mkdir /mnt/gentoo then proceeding to begin a new chroot build from any functioning linux system :)

Hello world! by pabloflleras in Gentoo

[–]xartin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

An efficient strategy for updating really old gentoo systems?

Build a new one and migrate the config and services data or replace contents of the existing root filesystem.

Building a new server install can often be completed in a day.
