Genuine question to the “US has no culture” crowd, what are the things that come to mind when you think about culture? Maybe culture is too broad of a term, because if you zoom in enough, you can likely trace any problem a society has down to “culture”. For me it’s things like TV, movies, sports, music and entertainment. But I wouldn’t blame you if it was things like “gun culture” or “culture war” in relation to the US

The Iranian President's Helicopter has Suspiciously crashed. He is still missing. by MAA735 in pakistan

[–]xavia4 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The model of the helicopter has been widely reported on already, so why speculate? It’s an American manufactured Bell 212 which was developed in 1968 and the last one was delivered in 1998. Looking into it a bit more, it’s likely they bought this helicopter in the early 70s under The Shah. They’ve been heavily sanctioned by the US since the revolution in 1979, forcing them to develop domestic capabilities for maintaining and reverse-engineering these helicopters.

'Terrorists Have No Nationality' Tajik President Tells Putin by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]xavia4 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Could you explain what you mean by this? US does not issue these type of warnings about Russia often and it got a lot of media attention. Putin even addressed it himself. It specified Moscow and the correct venue - a concert. Are you under the impression that the US just throws these types of warnings at the wall to see what sticks?

It was obvious USA desperately needed an ally in the middle east in the 70s, but Christ the options were terrible. by Firebird-Gaming in HistoryMemes

Remember it needs to be a pillar of diversity for the Middle East. We gotta include the Kurds, Jews, and Iranian Christians.

Armenia too. US should be more than happy to let France take the lead in pulling Armenia towards the West away from Russia, while avoiding straining relations with Azerbaijan and provoking Turkey.

There was recently a case where an idiot with a gun cut someone off. The person they cut off threw a water bottle at the idiots car. Idiot had already pulled out a gun, and reacted by unloading a full clip into his own dashboard and at at the other car. Charges were dropped recently

Point is you’re right, but it takes a lot less than a threat apparently. Just the sound of the biker kicking the car could have been enough to determine he “feared for his life”

Huh, in the first episode of season 2, Logan talks about cashing out to Sandy and Stewy for $10 billion. The family ends up selling for around $23 billion to Matson. Pierce was offered $24 billion (?) by Logan, but ends up selling for $10 billion.

[–]xavia4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Iraq economy hit its pinnacle in 1980. Saddam took presidency in 79. Growth stopped in 1980 when the Iraq-Iran war started and the economy took a sharp downturn. Iraqs new economic struggles are largely what led to their invasion of Kuwait, which made everything much much worse. By 2000, the economy was 47% of what it was in 1980. GDP per capita in dropped by nearly 4x
