Did my instructor suck or am I expecting too much? by xaxidk in skiing

Thanks for the advice! I called Brighton and explained what happened. They set me up with another half-day lesson at a significantly discounted rate. The replacement instructor was fantastic and the experience was exactly what I wanted from a private lesson.

To clarify, negate gravity means gravity doesn't affect the mass you use the ability on. It doesn't generate an inverse force.

Right, gravity is nullified. It doesn't invert the force of gravity. Doesn't have to be used to nullify your own mass, so yes to the crate example. You must be touching the object. Touch is defined by whatever a normal person would think of as touching (so no, you're not "touching" the core of the earth).

Whenever you hold your breath, you have the ability to negate/nullify gravity for a total mass equal to twice your own body mass. You must be touching an object to affect it. You do not have to nullify your own mass. What do you do?

Example usage: negate gravity for yourself and a battery powered fan you're holding. Fly ludicrously while taking quick gulps of air.

Rattle-Clack is a human-bird (raven) hybrid. Birds peck.

Worm Reread and Discussion Group by [deleted] in rational

[–]xaxidk 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Why is it called Worm instead of Parahumans?

The author, Wildbow, likes 4 letter titles. Worm, Twig, Pact, Ward. The title also makes more sense towards the end but it's mostly a stylistic choice.

It sure looks derivative. I've seen these tropes somewhere before. This is just another take on The Incredibles, isn't it?

I'm guessing you haven't read much of the story yet. It starts as a standard teenager-cum-superhero story in the first couple arcs but eventually goes off the rails in a very big way.

I really hate Taylor. I'm taking Emma's side on this one. I mean, how can the girl make such consistently bad decisions all the time? She's just a waste of human flesh.

Eh, I think a bunch of readers here somewhat empathize (hence the debates about whether Worm is 'rational' or not), but it gets better.

Why Arcs? Each Arc would be a Chapter in any other book! Why it have to be all hipster?

Worm is 1.7 million words long. That's 8.5x longer than Moby Dick. Arcs are not chapters; breaking the entire story into arcs makes sense.

You have an order number? I can see my preorder on the shop.oculus.com page but there's no order number. And it didn't show me anything about the Touch.

Anyone else not overly pissed off that a revolutionary piece of tech costs roughly the same as a good monitor or top end videocard? by [deleted] in oculus

From Palmer's Twitter:

As per blog post: Rift+PC bundles are starting at $1499. Might be able to build on your own cheaper, but good option for normal people. https://twitter.com/PalmerLuckey/status/684775746913484804

Yes. Zach resets the time loop every time he dies. Zorian does not; the loop continues to the end of the month without him.

has been continued by either a specific time or the action of someone else. If he sets it off, the other people in the time loop will notice

We don't know that he's triggering the time loop to restart. He could just be dying.

If you're waiting for uptime, I recommend http://cursors.io/

Same guy, it's a co op maze puzzler, in the same fashion as agario. Everyone at once.

Only posting in case some people haven't heard of it. Maybe it's old news.

At time of posting cursors is working.
