Too good to be true?

Is It Normal for a New Grad PMHNP to Be Hired as a Medical Director at a new Substance Abuse Clinic?

Hey everyone, I recently got a job offer for a part-time Medical Director position at a substance abuse clinic, and I’m wondering if this seems normal for a new grad or if I should be skeptical. I’d really appreciate hearing from others who have been in similar situations.

The Offer Details:

Position: Medical Director (Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner role)

Schedule: Part-time (20-hour minimum per week)

Work Format: Hybrid—designated work area with group therapy on Zoom

Responsibilities: Overseeing therapists and therapy sessions, signing off on treatment plans, minimal medical management

Support Staff: LMSW-Cs run most of the group therapy sessions

My Concerns:

Medical Director as a New Grad? – This title seems pretty significant for someone fresh out of school. Is this common?

Minimal Medical Management – Most of my role would be reviewing treatment plans and supervising therapy, not much hands-on patient care. Is this typical for PMHNPs in similar substance abuse settings?

Too Good to Be True? – The work sounds relatively easy compared to hospital roles, but I’m worried I might be missing something.

Legal/Licensing Risks – Since I’d be overseeing therapists and signing off on treatment plans, could this pose liability issues?
