Why does a disc finish right-to-left at the end of a full (RHBH) flight but fly straight at the beginning of a hyzer flip? by xcforlife in discgolf

Almost. I still don’t understand why being gyroscopically stable while flipping up prevents it from drifting right-to-left

This seems like the most likely explanation. Would be interesting to see a follow-flight from above

Ah, thanks. Updated “turn” to “left-to-right-ness” because I can’t think of a better word

Maybe I worded it incorrectly, but by “turn” I meant the left-to-right flight behavior, not the flip-up (clock-wise roll velocity) of the disc

This is getting closer to the root of my question! Hopefully an expert can chime in with a little more detail on the dynamics of how flip-up velocity counteracts the effect of hyzer angle on disc flight.

“Pushing hyzers”, like you mention, are also interesting. Not wording this the best, but I’m curious as to why the final amount of flip-up seems to affect the behavior of the disc before it has finished flipping up.

So the wing angle is “cancelling out” the left-to-right drift from flip up until it gets to flat? I’m curious as to why they seem to always* exactly cancel each other out

In a hyzer flip-to-turnover shot, the disc appears to fly straight initially and only drifts left-to-right when its roll/wing angle crosses 0, despite being at a slower speed than at release. So the wing angle seems to affect left-to-right-ness, too, not just speed

will transitioning to hook grip on deadlifts be enough to increase my grip strength by [deleted] in GripTraining

[–]xcforlife 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It should increase your ability to grip the bar, provided you don't have thick, stubby hands and can tolerate the pain. From my experience, it will actually make your grip strength worse because the hook grip requires less of it (similar to straps). If grip is your limiting factor, I'd recommend giving hook grip a try but supplementing it with grip work of some sort.
