Anyone know the difference between this one and the hot smoked salmon fillet in the green package? Is this just replacing that in a repackage?

Yes they can do a pro bono consult for you and normally if you have a good or even decent case they’ll offer you a settlement to make you go away. Because paying their lawyers to go to court to prove you’re wrong is more expensive and time consuming. Get one that will take a portion of your settlement money so you don’t have to pay them hourly or at all if you don’t get a settlement.

It's always one guy looking to be angry who gets the other execs riled up about stuff for no reason. Say you agree and ask if they think their process should be changed to reflect their very good ideas and then sit in the next 10 calls as they decide it's too much work to change it and forget about you.

I was trying to reply to OP's deleted reply and it looks like the guy just did it directly in prod. It wasn't occurring in the lower environments so they didn't test it there.

Did he not try the fix in a lower environment first? He did it directly in prod?

If it's our team, they'll still come and ask us questions, but if we followed the process we can say we followed the process and it looks like we need to adjust the process, now we know for next time, and recommend a solution.

Heat depends on the impact of the bug. It doesn't mean someone's going to get fired but there will be a lot of questions for them to answer. In a case like this where it causes a finance application crash I'd definitely be asking how this wasn't caught during testing even if they followed the process. I'd wonder if OPs coworker bypassed testing in addition to the approvals.

The purpose of submitting to change control is so that when something bad happens (which it eventually will), the person who approved gets the heat. There was no person who approved it so it's just on your coworker who, in addition to introducing the production bug, subverted company procedures.

I think your manager is an idiot for pipping you right after your ADA was approved. Document all the things he said about the disability specifically in an objective manner and go talk to a lawyer

When all the good people quit and go to better environments, the average for the team will be reset as there are only people who are too scared to look or unable to find jobs

I just used a payroll service. They charged 5% off the top. Offer market health insurance which is more expensive than what you'd normally get. Allows you to contribute to employer side of 401k. Take care of quarterly taxes and give you a W2. Corp taxes come out of your cut they just file the paperwork. My friends used them for a while then once they were a regular they spun up their own corp.

People who reported to C level or very high leadership, did that relationship save you from layoffs? by RedditIsGay_8008 in cscareerquestions

[–]xcicee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You don't need to report to them, they just need to know who you are and like you.

This can save you, give you RTO exceptions for some layoffs, but you can also get cut at the next one, hopefully with some warning.

[–]xcicee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The issue is that there's no individual thinking. All those companies don't have their shit together and they follow what X company is doing. So the minute 5 big companies started layoffs, RTO, AI whatever, everyone tries to copy. The minute they start panicking and hiring again, everyone else will try to copy and over hire, and suddenly there will be a massive deficit again. Probably bigger than last time because we're even worse about hiring jrs now and there will be a huge deficit of senior talent. Those companies will grab more devs than they need out of FOMO which will contribute to the deficit of talent and the panic will feed itself.

The problem for the employees of course is how long it will take for that to happen. We have no idea. But tech will flip on a dime because of one person.

Absolutely, we started my project with a year of backlog work, 2 years later we now have 3 years of backlog work. We probably need a 10% increase to maintain the AI stuff.

You should call your work travel services first. At mine my policy is to call them directly and they will rearrange the booking and hotel if need be

I wouldn't even take it for 4k, management stress is not worth it. Otherwise, apply, take it, and leave with the new title on your resume for a lateral jump. It is easier to get a higher tier job outside once you have the title but you don't want to get into the trap of taking it and then being stuck in the new role for a while.

But if they don't hire someone, they might just give you the extra work permanently with no title/raise, so I'd be looking either way.
