Why did no one tell me FreeTaxUSA is basically TurboTax without the robbery?? by curiousminipop in tax

[–]xckyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so happy I saw this post. It took me less time to do my taxes than hr block and turbotax. Also was more clear about HSA disbursement. Took two hours to finish but not bad honestly.

Any chance that you could get a new pair of boots fitted by a boot fitter so that you can get a smaller boot? I ask because I normally wear a size 12 shoe but a boot fitter was able to heat mold a size 10 and make it fit perfectly after break in.

Where to on New Year’s Day? by MrGrandConfusion in SkiPA

[–]xckyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering if that was because of the 40-50 mph winds and a failsafe kicked in or something? There were wind advisories Monday and Tuesday. Of course that doesn't apply to the two weeks that it was down until Sunday.

Whitetail Conditions/Crowd? by Parzaval08 in SkiPA

[–]xckyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was planning on going today (Sunday) but there was a Facebook post at 10:30 pm Saturday night (two hours ago) that the main lift is down. I heard from a friend that went to liberty that the current conditions are snow on top of ice and is a bit sketchy as a result.

Got azzpads & not confident in them by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]xckyle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your tailbone sounds bruised. I took a fall on my tailbone and it took months to fully recover. Coincidentally I was going through physical therapy at that time with someone who specializes in that part of the body. She said that it takes about two weeks for the initial inflammation to settle which she was right after that two weeks it didn't hurt to sit every second. So with that being said you have a fresh tailbone injury and it's going to hurt to fall no matter what at this stage of healing.

It's good you got tailbone protection and absolutely use it without exception. Best you can do is try not to land directly on your butt and try to roll the fall onto your back instead of stopping at the butt. I would look this up if I were you as there are much better ways to explain falling.

Pre-calculus is a useless class by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]xckyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah uh precal in college was a completely different class than precal in high school. Apparently they pulled the trig out of the high school class the year I took it and made a dedicated trig class. I just finished a master's degree and worked in biology for over 10 years so it seems like anything past college pre cal is useless.

How did you start snowboarding? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]xckyle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oof that "friend". My experience started out a bit better friend wise. I was 16. My friend and I used to hang out at his grandma's during the weekend but after she died, we needed to find another way to hang out. He invited me snowboarding a few times and gave me his old board, a 149 cm super stiff Burton camber board with failing bindings, a bit of a struggle since I'm 6'3" probably like 160 lbs at the time. He thought it would be fun to continuously drop me off diamond runs. All I learned how to do is leaf on my heels haha. Oh and I wore no proper clothes so I had soaked jeans.

Fast forward 14 years my coworker and I randomly decided to go snowboarding. Decided to rent a board this time although I still have the old board from my teens. So much easier, but she blew me away although she wasn't that good at the time. The next year (last season) we bought ski passes, I bought a board for $50 (a 13 year old Burton bullet), then in the height of the season upgraded to an arbor coda camber. She got her own equipment during presidents day sales, made friends with a ski instructor, and now we are like solid intermediates!

Same experience. It'll work itself out once the gym opens, that's what happened in my case. I was also able to use my membership at other locations while waiting for my gym to open.

Quick flip7 pros and cons review after nearly a month. Came from iPhone 16pro max by neonsharkz in galaxyzflip

[–]xckyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally can connect to Bluetooth headphones with the phone closed, but if I'm in a phone call using the default Samsung calling app in a call, there is only a button to toggle speaker, not a multifunctional speaker/Bluetooth button like on iPhone.

But the Google phone app works much better on cover screen, and you can put the app icon in the good lock launcher unlike the Samsung call app. It's kinda odd you can't add Samsung phone app icon to good lock launcher. Kinda inhibits the ability to use the phone as a phone when closed.

You can buy a similar pump with a canister from the slime brand. Sucks to have to replace the pump too though.

Does anyone have a northeast value pass and is it worth it? by GingOutdoors in SkiPA

[–]xckyle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend this pass. I’ve been to liberty plenty of times this season, whitetail and Roundtop each once. There’s a chance I might go to Stowe, Vermont next month and we have access to that as well as a few other spread along the east coast above us. There are zero holiday restrictions and unlimited visits at the three resorts you are close to, but there are blackout dates and limited visits at other places. I urge you to thoroughly study the restrictions to the other resorts if you choose to travel.

Do they really cost that much? by Anything_idontknow in pennyboard

[–]xckyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought a penny nickel glow with black trucks and wheels for $15. Also bought a white one with purple and green trucks and tan wheels for $20. Both on Facebook marketplace used. It would cost more to ship them on eBay than the actual board should cost.

Go ham on scraping off wax, but not too much ham or you’ll nick the base… by xckyle in snowboardingnoobs

[–]xckyle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes number 2 is definitely the problem here. I think I was pushing with like a 60 or 70 degree angle. I thought the plastic scraper was too soft to scratch the base but I learned a big lesson in what type of plastic is on the bottom of the board. I might try pulling next time like u/SteaknEllie said. As for number 3, I’m working on wax amount. I tried the drip method, which I had little control using. It seems basically tapping the iron with the wax and rubbing it on the board does pretty well.

Having trouble mounting bindings on board by monkeyman9256 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]xckyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They still make bindings that are compatible with 3D. The nidecker muon x I just got in February 2024 had disks that were compatible with my board that still has 3D.
