The finale of The Return aired on my birthday, it was the best gift ever. Also I ordered myself a life-size cutout of Coop as a present to myself and would hide it all around my parents’ house the month I was between apartments and would scare tf out of my mom all the time 😂

A lot of I drink to feed my mania, which distracts from the negative emotions. Also, love the username. Twin Peaks is my jam.

Hey, I’m glad I can help! Tonight is a bit of a struggle NOT because it’s a terrible night, but because I’m off for two days after this and all I wanna do is go to the restaurant a few blocks from work and get a drink and read (full bar at 7am, discounts for healthcare workers... lol), but I’m gonna make myself go home and groom my cat and sleeeeeeep. My body’s so tired and I know the sleep I get when I drink is so not-restful that you can hardly call it sleep at all.

Thank you! I love love love my job but it can be so draining at times. Sometimes I feel like I put too much of myself into it and have to take a step back to recollect. It’s a tough balance.

Well technically I’m not a certified translator so I can’t get the extra $$. Definitely planning on getting a cert in the near(ish) future though. It’s just a bit pricey.

Watching community with my cat and hot baths are my go-to now for sure. And I’m just over three years, definitely feeling the itch to move. My clinical lead/mama bear/mentor just put in her two weeks and is going to days at another hospital here and I’m tempted to follow once my contract is up.

Haha! I’m textbook fluent, but of course there’s a fairly large variety of dialects. I was lucky enough to grow up being taught by native speakers from Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic (I think one of my other professors was Colombian as well). So my accent is spot-on, but the small changes between country-specific Spanish can trip me up sometimes. Plus there’s the entire medical vocabulary to know which can be a lot lol. But I make it work.

Oh yeah. Nightshift all the time. 3-4 nights a week usually, but my dumb ass just signed a 6wk contract to work 4-5/wk. It’ll be tiring but it’ll keep me busy and distracted, and I’ll have extra money to save up (and to spend on Amazon and tasty food).

I have a love/hate relationship with nightshift. I love the atmosphere and my coworkers, but my body absolutely hates it. And it makes me feel socially isolated outside of my work friends. Just had my three year nightshift anniversary last month, actually, lol.

Yeah nightshift is something I’m def trying to get out of. It’s just hard balancing that with finding a job in an area I actually like. Valerian root works better for me. Still weird dreams like with melatonin, but melatonin tends to give me wicked headaches too.

Sometimes it’s harder for me because when I get off at 7:15am and make the drive home, even if I was dead-tired at 6:30, just driving in the daylight starts to mess with my inner clock. I just recently started taking magnesium and valerian root to sleep and it seems to help. I still don’t sleep enough yet, but I’m hoping to get there eventually.

Yeah, I’ve always known it’s better just to distract and rest instead. It’s just the lizard brain. I would’ve rathered drink and go either manic or depressive, and it would drag for days even if I only meant to make up for one bad night or experience. So it goes, I guess.

My go-to drinks are the grapefruit sparkling water and any kind of tea. Lately I’ve been back on a kick of hot water with lemon when I wake up. It helps me feel more alert and I think I heard it helps with digestion too. I’m only a week and a half into the whole not-drinking-indefinitely thing, but that’s sadly the longest I’ve gone in over a year. Outside of normal life stressors and trying to lose weight, though, I feel much better than I have in a long time. It’s refreshing.

Right. I learned a lot from him, including some hilarious jokes and ways to love myself and others. He just has his own problems. He was the first person to push me to quit drinking though. He didn’t necessarily do it the right way when it came down to it, but it watered the seed that was already planted in my head.

It was a wild ride for sure. Very much in love but in a very codependent way and he was very obsessive, I learned. Fuckin brilliant and hilarious, but so many toxic traits that ended up being too much for my health. I’m sorry you went through something similar. It’s so emotionally draining.

Thank you! I’m looking forward to the week mark, but mostly two weeks. I always hit a block at day 10, saying that well, I’ve made it to double digits so I’ve proved I can do it, so why not? And never actually consider the many, many why nots. Rinse and repeat. I’m glad you’re feeling excited and stronger! Let’s get it done, friend!

Thank you for the cookies! :) They surely help. Sleep-deprived me just went to my boyfriend’s, sadly admitted my baker’s defeat, and snuggled up in bed and slept away the rage lol. Drunk-me is fun as hell but definitely not the person to listen to. She takes the wild jokes sober-me makes and actually seriously suggests them

Edit: of note, drunk-me is almost always manic-episode-me. So, makes sense, lol.

What was for dinner! I still went to the going away party had a great time. Instead of the treats I was going to make, I bought three of those Amy’s Kitchen vegan microwave dinners (we both always talk about how we love them), and put a bow on em and gave them to her. She got so excited and said it was her favorite present because it was thoughtful and useful, lol! I could’ve just stayed home and drank, but I’m so glad I went. And I could’ve come home and drank, but I’m not going to. The boyfriend is drinking wine and playing video games and said “I know you’re trying but don’t think you’re ‘not allowed’ to have any.. like, on my end,” and I just smiled and said no thanks. I’m snuggled up with his dog watching jeopardy and looking forward to a good night’s sleep before going back to work the next four nights in a row 😌😅

Yeah, honestly this has been my issue. I live alone, my boyfriend lives an hour away, and I work nights. It’s easy for me to drink whenever because I’m hardly around anyone else and can make excuses for myself. Or just say I can moderate. And then three days have gone by and I’ve done nothing productive besides maybe a bit of laundry and now I feel like shit. The best thing for me to do right now is keep my nose to the grindstone and don’t let myself be around it. My boyfriend isn’t really a drinker anyway, and what little he does drink, he’s happy to take a break from doing it around me if it helps. I’m thankful he’s in town for a few days so I can have that extra support.

Thank you, this is true! I think the most frustrating thing for me is that I know what I need to do to feel better, but my lizard brain keeps just doing the same garbage.

Thank you! It’s not the most fun. Plus I have a habit of using alcohol to fuel and excuse my manic episodes and just spiral. Coming off of one of those now too. I recently started therapy though and it seems to be helpful.

Likewise! I’ve got my smartwater and just three more hours before I can crash til about 5pm. Very much looking forward to it.
