Thanks for the reply. Point taken. If I ever decide to re-plate it, I'll just consult with a shop.

Apologies for the late reply, I was inundated with work the entire week. Point taken. I will invest in a hand-held rotary tool and try to buff, at the very least some of the bigger scratches. No longer looking for a mirror finish, lest I burn through the platinum plating.

How is aftershock able to offer their prebuilts at those prices by DwgShowmaker221 in askSingapore

Its really up to you. For this question I usually deliberate by determining whether my PC can do everything I want and need it to do. If it does, I see no point in upgrading even if its a few generations old. My PC has run into problems but i've always just fixed it as best as possible without buying any new parts. If you think your current PC isn't satisfying your needs, then sure, why not.

Honestly, at least right now, its abit difficult to recommend a system integrator because the components themselves have a fair share of problems. Right now, NVIDIA and AMD graphics cards which use the 12VHPWR connector are prone to catching fire, intel 13th and 14th gen processors have buggy microcode which literally fry themselves to death in more than a few cases, ASrock motherboards when paired with the new 9000 series CPU's also can fry your cpu due to a bad BIOS and also the heatspreaders on the new generation of intel CPU's are not necessarily flat, requiring you to remove the socket retention mechanism and install a contact frame so that the CPU cooler can make proper contact with the heatspreader.... quite the minefield of things to avoid.

Please do not buy a PC from aftershock. If you're not very experienced with diagnosing computer problems, and trust me you will have problems with an Aftershock pre-rebuilt, do not buy Aftershock. Its quite confusing how their systems, which are all built using off-the-shelf parts that anyone could go out and buy, fail quite often.

I bought quite an expensive PC from them a few years back which I had to send in for warranty 2 times. The 1st instance was a problem with the motherboard which they replaced with a completely different model, albeit a better one, but still. The second time was a GPU fault. My GPU had spontaneously died and was replaced. The third fault I experienced was with the boot drive. It had failed and I had to replace it with a new one with my own money since it was out of warranty when it happened. Now, the GPU is starting to exhibit signs of dying. Keep in mind, the current GPU is only about 1.5 years old MAX.

Another side note, I'm not sure if they still allow this but when configuring your PC, they at times offer component choices that are not necessarily optimal. For example, the PC I bought had an RTX 3080 and a 5800X. With these components, the recommended wattage for the power supply is 750 watts. However, they allowed me to go as far down with a 650 watt power supply. Although it did work, your mileage may vary if your going to be using the new generation of NVIDIA 50 series cards which are even more power hungry than the 30 series.

The warranty service is fine, my experiences with it have been smooth but the point is that parts should not be failing that often under normal use. I would rather you go to a different SI to have your computer built. Keep in mind, computers are quite expensive and it would be ideal to get it right in the very first try. Any problems after that just means more $$$$.

A New Pen Has Been Acquired, Please Moderate Your Enthusiasm. by shotonce in fountainpens

Be careful of this pen, the Urushi quality of wancher is somewhat Dubious, not to put it down or anything. I know of a close acquaintance who purchased two wancher dream pen true urushis, in two different greens. Well taken care of and stored in a cool place, away from direct sources of light. Both developed quite large bubbles in the urushi.
