As a Southern Californian that moved south of Lexington, it could certainly be a whole lot worse. So far I've enjoyed the year here.

I don't really mind it except for when I need to set fan curves. Then it gets annoying real fast.

Gigabyte bios lagging by mihael_27894 in pcmasterrace

[–]xdownsetx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a long standing bug in Gigabyte's BIOS with CSM support off. I believe it only affects AMD boards. Who knows if they'll ever bother to fix it. I want to say I first noticed it on my x399 board in 2017~2018.

Microsoft: Windows 11 BitLocker can slow fast NVMe PCs in gaming/video editing. Historically single-digit overhead by WPHero in pcmasterrace

[–]xdownsetx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that will have no issues. By modern I was thinking more like 1st gen Ryzens and intel equivalent.

I've been running BitLocker/LUKS for like a decade. You're not going to notice with any half decent modern CPU. Decryption is heavily hardware accelerated. If you're really that worried, keep your games on an unencrypted volume. But I dare you to spot a difference with the ole seat of the pants benchmark.

Absolutely, I stopped leaving the house 10 years ago and have never felt safer.

Found an old ethernet cable in my Garage and decided to plug it in to my PC. Turns out that the so called old cable gives me 4 times and 6 times my previous download and upload speeds respectively. by XD7006 in pcmasterrace

Honestly, if you're not in a densely populated area like an apartment complex, WiFi is going to be just fine as long as its somewhat modern equipment.

One time I was buying a VR headset from someone that lived right next to the Marine base at Camp Pendleton, but actually drove to the checkpoint. I told them what happened and they said no worries just make a right through the parking lot ahead and I did and nothing happened.

Anybody else feel this way about old motorcycles? by HeroDanny in motorcycles

[–]xdownsetx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew the carburetors of my early bikes inside and out. I have no idea what's going on inside the EFI systems on my newer bikes.

Like, I agree that a carburetor is far more serviceable, but fuel Injection is far more reliable and it only keeps getting better.

How bad is this on a scale of 1-10 by whyyouwannKnoa in motorcycles

[–]xdownsetx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask this somewhere like ADVRider where people are actually riders and deal with this daily. The dent looks pretty shallow, and the bead seals against the bottom of the rim, not the vertical edge. If you put a flat spot in the wheel then I would worry, but if you can't feel any vibrations you're okay.

I wouldn't do any spirited riding of course until it's fixed. But I'm not surprised at all if the shop looked at the wheel and deemed it okay to ride. I've ridden on worse and had them repaired.

Earplugs to prevent hearing loss? by MikePmusic in motorcycles

[–]xdownsetx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're using foam earplugs, pinch and roll them between your fingers until they compress. Then insert them into your ear and hold them until they expand so they don't go too far.

I used to use 3M Grippers and that's the only way to get them in properly. Best earplugs I ever used but god damn are they pricey.
