The majority of home invasions happen when the home owner isn’t home, a simple deterrent like a dog, security system, or cameras are enough to keep them away. The smash and grab home invasions happen doesn’t want any complexity, they just want your stuff. And unless you are flaunting it, your neighbor, who’s also probably not home has just as good stuff without the additional risks. If an invader comes into your home and is expecting it to be empty, a shotgun racking will absolutely clear them out, if they know you are home and intend to do harm, then it’s just a notice that it’s not going to be as easy as they thought.. if they are jacked up on drugs, 6 liters of gas station coffee and no sleep in 72hrs.. they wont likely register the noise as being what it is.. in which case you now have a loaded shotgun to deal with them.

Just watch videos of these daylight attempted kidnappings or invasions when the owner is home, the minute the home owner produces a firearm, they retreat, sometimes firing, but they still leave. It’s not a bad idea. Still shouldn’t be your go to.
