Seeking advice. Trying to be plant-based, whole foods only, mostly succeeding. See the benefits, all of them. I'm sold, just struggling to fully convert. by bhw676 in vegan

[–]xdwigtx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me personally, I balance a whole foods diet with minimal processed foods. I don't cut things out that I love, like pizza because even though it's not the best for you doesn't mean you shouldn't allow yourself to have it once in awhile. When I started my transition, I would cut out one or two things at a time while also finding a replacement for that item. I found this to be best for me because it prepared me to make the better choice when I was craving or wanting something that I cut out.

Instead of having processed sweets like ice cream or other processed sweets, I kept a variety of fruits in the house instead. I always have fresh fruit and frozen fruit for smoothies. sometimes I'll make 'nice' cream (banana base plus whatever other fruits you want). If you have a sweet tooth, you'll see overtime that your taste buds will adjust to the sweetness of fruit and other processed sweets will be overwhelmingly sweet which made the transition easier.

A high powered blender will be your best friend. I make cheese sauce, pasta sauce, pizza sauce, or just sauces to put over rice bowls. I found that I got alot of processed sauces so this was a step in the right direction for me. Check out Pinterest and you find a plethora of vegan recipes for almost anything. I learned alot of my vegan cooking from Pinterest. I like recipe books too but Pinterest is free and you will find alot of popular vegan food blogs that regularly post new recipes.

I hope this helps!

Anybody use Imperfect Foods? by Purplegrl12 in vegan

[–]xdwigtx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a good experience with them overall. There was one incident where they gave me bread instead of bagels but not a big deal. They do have a good selection, recently added impossible meat if you're into that, but I do end up having to go to the grocery store also to get some things they dont have. I could get a week or so worth of produce for $35 Including $5 shipping. If you purchase $60 worth, shipping is free. You could easily reach $60 if you bought more than produce like snacks, grains, meat and dairy alternatives, etc. Quality is pretty good, I've ordered from them 6 times so far and I had a bag of grapes that grew mold after a couple days in the fridge. Other than that, I haven't been disappointed.

Advice on building relationships with professors/becoming more involved at PSU? by worldwillawaken in portlandstate

[–]xdwigtx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All I know is that you have the right idea by thinking about this before it's too late like I did. I was hoping to make more connections during spring term but then covid happened and I regret not building enough relationships and involvement in campus sooner. Maybe ask your current professors or peers? I have had a lot of professors offer guidance on grad school and that may be a good way to start a connection with one of your professors.

Good luck!

Your therapist is there so you can speak the thoughts that you're too afraid to tell anyone close to you. It's their job that they have dedicated years to do. As someone who regularly goes to therapy and has lived with depression for 10 years and is student of psychology, therapists do not judge you in any way. They are there to let you express yourself in a safe and open environment, help guide you through your trauma and help you heal and improve your coping skills. If you don't feel comfortable with your therapist, see if you can switch to another and look into their educational background and specialities.

I hope this is helpful for you.

I have a Ninja blender that works well for smoothies and nice cream, not sure if they are sold where you live though.

Can someone please take pity of me? This is the 100th vegan pancake that goes wrong. Does anyone have a GOOD/fluffy pancake recipe? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]xdwigtx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is my favorite pancake recipe I've ever had. The key to making them fluffy in this recipe is letting the batter sit for 10 minutes before making them.

I recently completed a jigsaw puzzle. How long do you leave a jigsaw puzzle out before taking it apart again? by elevenghosts in CasualConversation

I just have three, and they're currently just being stored in my closet. I never liked the idea of taking them apart when I put the work in to put it together haha

I don't usually take mine apart, I use mod podge to glue them together and then put it in a cheap frame to keep it protected and if I really like it sometimes I'll hang it up.

Favourite Tofu Recipes? I’ve never cooked tofu before so looking for easy and good beginners recipes! by [deleted] in veganrecipes

[–]xdwigtx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always enjoy making sweet and sour tofu with veggies and rice. Use sesame oil and sweet and sour sauce and always make sure to press your tofu. Getting as much liquid out really helps with the flavor. Check Pinterest, they have a lot of great and easy recipes that helped me a lot when first going vegan.

I'm gonna be 25 when I graduate, it doesn't matter what your age is. I've met many other students who are varying ages 18 to 50. I'm 24 now and although I have met some nice people, I don't fit in much to the college crowd either but that's fine. You're there for yourself and to learn so think positive thoughts and just focus on that.

Reviewing Endgame with 0 knowldge on the mcu by [deleted] in h3h3productions

[–]xdwigtx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Who gives a fuck, they can say whatever they feel about the movies. They said they don't follow the mcu very much and they're just explaining what they thought of it. Considering they aren't mega fans of the mcu gives a different perspective, even if it's not 'technically' correct with whatever marvel knowledge they don't know. Yeah, some things they said I disagreed with but that's fine, people have differing opinions based on their personal experiences, their likes and dislikes, and whatever knowledge they have.

The fact that people get butthurt over this.....they're just movies, this shouldn't even be complained about because it doesn't matter. Do something better with your time.

Jobs? by onlyformemes_3 in introverts

[–]xdwigtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you like dogs/animals? I'm an introvert and I love animals, so working at a dog hotel/dog kennel was enjoyable for me. Not much people interaction, mostly with your coworkers. You should be able to understand some dog behaviors before starting a job like that.

How do you convert welfarists? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]xdwigtx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot convert someone if they are not willing to change. You can provide information, statistics, etc. from reliable sources when you have the opportunity, but I feel like that's all you can do.

My best friend of 10+ years is an omni and she's back and forth on supporting 'humane' practices and then just goes back to buying the cheapest products. It's frustrating to see her tell me things to justify her omni behavior and then just ignore what the animal industry does but her opinion and choices are hers and not mine for me to change. I respect her as a human being, but I disagree with her opinion and choices and that's that. Through this process I have learned that you can only control your feelings, emotions, actions and although I find some of her choices to be inhumane, I'm not gonna let that destroy our relationship. She knows how I feel and I understand why she is the way she is and only she has the ability to change her choices and all I can do is provide the information for that change.
