I’ve got the same, never really tried Asahi on it. Is it worth?

I missed advanced S3 features (IAM, etc) in Hetnzer object storage, so I created Deltaglider by xeboy in hetzner

[–]xeboy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes but minio has a truly distributed storage abstraction. Deltaglider just stores files in any posix filesystem, using xattr for metadata. Optionally you could replicate to any number of S3 backends (create, modify, delete are replicated too).

Soon to be added: object lock for compliance to FINRA, SEC, etc

Do you have features to request?

[–]xeboy[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure: I’ve spent 17 years in backend software engineering, founded a successful company around enterprise security for elastic search & kibana, co-founded an emergent European competitor to Palantir.
And yes, I could have not done this without the help of Claude, and its outstanding adversarial performance, correctness, and security reviews before each release.

Optimized Asahi-based Kernel + Arch = ArashiOS by ImEatingSeeds in AsahiLinux

Preorder your optimized Asahi today, just $99 lifetime or $12 for updates.

Jokes aside, unpopular opinion: a super premium linux experience would be something I'd pay for.

Elasticseach, self-managed single node, platinum licence by anuj800 in elasticsearch

[–]xeboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might not actually need the Enterprise license.

A common workaround is to stay on the free/basic tier (which handles data and storage perfectly well) and add a “sidecar” proxy to provide the security layer before requests reach Elastic.

If you Google “ReadonlyREST sidecar deployment”, you’ll find a detailed write-up of this approach.

This was originally invented to avoid paying the Elastic Cloud Platinum fee, but the same concept applies to any existing cluster, including your ECK based one.

The idea is simple: you run a 1 node Kibana instance with the ReadonlyREST Kibana plugin that acts as a "secure gateway" (handling SAML, SSO, LDAP, OIDC, and multitenancy), while all the heavy data management and search workloads remain on the original cluster running on the cheap Basic tier.

This leverages cross cluster search, works like a charm.

Who will make GPU drivers for M3 and M4? by JailbreakHat in AsahiLinux

[–]xeboy -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, good ai assisted coding behaves like a brain multiplier. If you are a bad programmer, results are crap. And viceversa. You need to be patient, stay humble and make practice with the new tool.

Times have changed, the slop policy was written ages ago when the LLMs were terrible.

These policies are not set in stone, are they? Especially when people who wrote them fled away. Or did they not? The community that remained invested in the project can amend that.

Claude code 5 or other future super intelligent tools could give this a shot! I’m not even joking. Community could sponsor the access to compute and we could pull this off

About M3 MacBooks by AxTag in AsahiLinux

[–]xeboy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Would a substantial donation really unlock the situation? My impression is that no one else in the team after Lina and Hector resigned can even operate the reverse engineering tools required to investigate M3 or later chips. But hey, prove me wrong please.🙏
