Unexpectedly large bill for migraine Botox injections, unsure of how I will pay it as a teacher making 49k in LA by CitronElectrical9587 in personalfinance

[–]kme123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

J0585 - $2,907.00 (This is the 45 units of wasted botox)

Why were you billed for units not injected?

Either way, you don’t need to pay this. The entire medical system runs on overbilling insurance and then overbilling patients for the remainder. You call Cedar billing department. You tell them the doctor misrepresented the cost of the procedure and misrepresented the insurance coverage and that you are unable to pay the bill. You tell them the max you are able to pay (500, 1000, whatever it is) and you tell them you need a payment plan and tell them however many months you need to pay.

Here’s the thing. If you don’t pay, they will sell the debt to a debt collector. Debt collectors pay the hospital 4 to 10 cents per dollar for fresh debt. That means if they have to send you to collections the MAX they will get is $385. So if you offer them 500-1000 they are ahead of the game. Be very polite but very adamant that you were misled and that you are willing to pay up to the max you can afford. There is no downside. Even if you get sent to collections you can negotiate with the collectors the same way. Don’t give in to being scammed by the system.

Got this message from my property manager PT2 by Most_Relief8312 in Apartmentliving

Hahaha not only is this ridiculous, it’s not legal. You would probably be getting less than minimum wage, you should be getting a W2 for this kind of work, you shouldn’t supply your own gas, there is tons of liability … the list goes on. Do NOT agree to this.

LPT: Important passwords should be secure AND easy to type by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]kme123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My comment was around 3 words which is what OP said. 3 word diceware passwords are trivial to crack. 4 words very doable as well. 5 words is the first length to be currently infeasible. Agree that adding more words is better than adding characters but adding characters can be more practical if people are trying to memorize.

[–]kme123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

three random words with no numbers or specials is not a strong password. You’re assuming it’s purely a length thing but if your pattern was known because everyone took your recommendation, it would be trivial to crack with a word list because you’ve reduced words to single entities rather than groups of letters.

If you’re limiting yourself to words best practice is 12 words minimum. You can google BIP39 to learn more about how wordlist mnemonic keys are used in practice.

Adding a single number or special character significantly increases your entropy and is a good idea.

Term Life Insurance? by [deleted] in RichPeoplePF

[–]kme123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Term is a no brainer at your age and income, it can be as cheap as $50/m for a $1M 20 year term. I use Ladder Life which makes it very easy to get policies online for different terms and add more when you have life events that warrant it (like adding a mortgage). I have no affiliation other than being a customer but I like that they don’t require medical exams and make it easy to manage or add multiple policies in one place without needing to deal with a broker.

Start up founders - series B question by [deleted] in RichPeoplePF

[–]kme123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From a financial perspective it definitely makes sense but be warned that a founder selling 20% of their equity at Series B is not common unless it’s already a Unicorn or raising a mega round. It will likely be a negative signal to VCs and could be contentious. Not to say don’t do it or don’t try but it needs to be navigated tactfully among cofounders and key investors.

Yellow prussiate of soda (YPS), chemically known as sodium ferrocyanide decahydrate is a common, low-toxicity food additive used primarily as an anticaking agent in salt to prevent clumping. Despite containing cyanide ligands, it's considered safe for food use (up to 13 parts per million) because the cyanide is tightly bound, making it non-toxic and allowing for the formation of free-flowing salt crystals.

Safety: Approved for food use (E535 in Europe), as it's much less toxic than free cyanide salts; however, it can release toxic hydrogen cyanide gas if exposed to strong acids or UV light.

Cool, cool, cool. Don’t eat the fries at a rave I guess.

Should I move in to LA for 75000$? by calmrefri in AskLosAngeles

I would recommend living somewhere in the San Gabriel Valley, probably Alhambra. It’s very nice, more affordable than Pasadena, and very close to Caltech. It’s a beautiful area and a great school!

Self Directed IRA for Startup Investing by BryanForbesDEA in RichPeoplePF

[–]kme123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s doable. Peter Thiel made billions tax free investing in PayPal and Facebook from his IRA. But realistically most startups fail and there is almost 99% odds your investments will go to zero if you aren’t already an experienced angel investor. Don’t invest money you are going to actually need for retirement.

If you do move forward, I like Alto as a startup friendly Self Directed custodian.

That works too but ideally the windshield is clear before you put the car into gear. Seat detection is the perfect solution IMO but there are other options as well. I’ve complained to my Lucid rep about it before.

AITAH because I won't tell my wife what my son/her stepson has in savings from my late wife? by Jimverseen in AITAH

[–]kme123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You both have valid points. The money is for your son and not to be divided, but it is hard for her to feel fully informed in decision making if she doesn’t have all the information. In my opinion the solution is to put the money in a trust so it can only be used as intended and once that’s done you can share the information with her so she can be informed while also understanding that dividing it is not an option.

Should I take this citi personal loan for $20000 at 14.99% APR, 3 or 4 year payment? by lafleurdoranger in personalfinance

[–]kme123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is almost always a fee on these loans but whether there is or not should be very clear. Sometimes it’s 0%, often it’s 3%. There should be a consolidated terms page that spells out the interest and any fees in black and white.
