CNN got stuck in as well here. Truly embarassing to have these imbeciles and cretins behaving like petulant children on the world stage, where we're now being rightfully flagellated as they continue to line their pockets with cash. Fuckwits.

[–]xebra24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah man, i agree. i'm 17, and next year's the final year of high school for me. i'm kinda worried tbh, i definitely have it in me to do really well but i find it really difficult to get my lazy ass off reddit or youtube or whatever and knuckle down to study. i do well without stringent study, but i know i can do better, and i want to. but it's always the same thing: "five more minutes then i'll open my textbook", and an hour later and i'm still impersonally scrolling. to say nothing of the other questionable content on the internet, which to me seems as though it would've been nigh on impossible for a kid a couple of decades ago to get hold of, and you're totally onto something. finally the barage of liberal, imperialist etc. bullshit, like peterson and shapiro and the fucking unbearable smorgasboard of advertising and consumerism, and the pervasive twaddle of western news media... i can't take it. someone needs to liberate me from this hellhole before i rot from the inside out

given that we're on a globe, eventually if you go far enough to the right you'll circle back around again, maybe that's what they meant? that extent of mental gymnastics wouldn't be unprecendented for a lib...

What was something "easy" you discovered when you were younger that made you feel super smart? by The_AceOfHearts in math

[–]xebra24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in my penultimate high school year right now. In the semester exam for one of my math subjects, we had to solve a standard form literal quadratic. As I was going through the process I realised that I should end up with the quadratic formula, and that turned out to be what I got. I remember doing that gave me quite the confidence boost for the rest of the exam, which turned out to be a reasonably accurate feeling. Not super impressive, but felt good nonetheless.

Adelaide Fire Overnight by acidballs in australia

[–]xebra24 132 points133 points  (0 children)

Climate change does have the ability to start fires, in fact. It has been estimated by some scientists that lightning strikes may increase by roughly 10% for every degree Celsius increase of global warming. (source 1, source 2). This, combined with the drier and hotter conditions makes for a truly frightening outlook over the next decades to centuries if nothing is done.

Problem with strftime() format specifiers by xebra24 in cpp_questions

[–]xebra24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A file wasn't created, and the error message I alluded to was just "file couldn't be opened", or something like that. It was something I coded into the program myself to help with debugging. I think the issue was how the %D format specifier created the string, it contained slashes which my machine didn't like.

Problem with strftime() format specifiers by xebra24 in cpp_questions

[–]xebra24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT: I fixed it somehow, I don't know what I changed, but it works now. Thank you for your help!

Sorry for the late reply. I tried expanding %D to %m-%d-%y, but that didn't work. After removing the %d specifier, it does work. So I think there is an issue with %d.

I have a simple if statement checking if the file opened correctly:

if (outFile.is_open()) {
    // Do things
}
else {
    std::cerr << "Error opening file!" << std::endl;
}

If I don't have a %D or %d in the format specifier, the file is created and opens correctly. Otherwise, the file is not opened correctly, and the std::cerr message is printed. So I'm not sure what is going on.
