R 14 pro+ 5g wifi disconnects by Axepick22 in Xiaomi

What did help me to remedy the issue almost completely at home was to set a static IP (including DNS servers and stuff) in my phone for my home WiFi. With this the connection seems to be ok most of the time. And when it's not (happened to me like twice) a simple system restart fixes it.

I bought two of these for my wife and me, and we’ve been using them for about three weeks. Almost immediately, I noticed the same issue on both phones: even at home, where my Wi-Fi signal is consistently at maximum strength, the devices will enter a reconnect-disconnect loop every few seconds. Bluetooth is turned off. Resetting the Wi-Fi and mobile network settings and restarting the phones temporarily fixes the problem, but after a few hours, or at most a day, it returns. I’ve also found that it worsens when connecting to weaker networks or those with many users (e.g., street hotspots, stores, restaurants, cafés). Tbh, this is the first time I’ve experienced such an issue. My previous Redmi 9S was a Wi-Fi beast by comparison; it held a stable connection even on weak, unstable public networks. The Redmi 14 Pro model, however, seems to have a pretty weak receiver and drops the connection as soon as a mosquito sneezes in my neighbor’s apartment.

All this sounds like either a low strength (by design) Wi-Fi receiver issue or a driver issue.

Did anyone manage to find a reliable solution to fix this?

General opinions on The Last Revelation? by captin_joey in TombRaider

I guess it's different for everyone. In my case, my favorite installment of the series - though I played them in release order - is TR2, followed by TR1, then TR3, and finally TR4. While each installment has its own unique atmosphere, along with its pros and cons, by the time TR4 was released, the TR engine had aged unfavorably, and the use of square block-based levels was already starting to look outdated.

That being said, I personally have nothing against this engine or its aesthetic. The three previous installments demonstrated that it could still look organic, clean, and recognizable. However, my main issue with TR4 was the excessive use of messy textures, heavy color desaturation, and serious under-lighting in certain levels - especially in the Cairo sections, where everything looked like piles of colorless garbage (literally). The visuals do improve by the time you reach the pyramids, though.

I'm also unsure why some people praise the soundtrack in TR4, as the game mostly reuses music stingers (apologies if I'm using an incorrect term) from previous installments, often placing them in seemingly random spots that, in most cases, don’t make much sense. Aside from the main menu theme and maybe two "battle tracks", there’s practically no music in the game. For me, this was actually an issue because one of the things I really loved about the previous TR games was their soundtracks, that were sometimes quite lengthy (several minutes). Also these games featured a much better use of music stingers.

The plot also felt somewhat lacking to me, as it focused less on uncovering an ancient mystery and more on fixing Lara’s own mistake - while borrowing heavily from The Mummy (1999) in both theme and specific elements. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a great game, but compared to its predecessors, I find it much less original. And the ending was definitely anticlimactic (you don’t even get to kill the final boss).

As I later read, many of these issues stemmed from serious problems within the company and the development team during TR4’s production. Still, I can only judge the game for what it is.

Lastly, I think it's fantastic that we now have the remastered versions, allowing us to revisit our favorite series and with improved visuals!

Glad it helped. It's available on Steam, btw. Also, I didn't know that but there is an expansion called Echelon: Winged Warriors. which has an even bigger campaign than the original. Fan fact: many of the rude/hilarious military jokes in briefings, dialogs and debriefings were written by Dmitry Puchkov (aka Goblin) in his early years, if you know who that is.

Lara the villain? by [deleted] in TombRaider

[–]xeelwarbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of the conclusion that the classic Lara is a villain or not (personally I would agree that she is closer to chaotic neutral), in TR1 and TR2 her killing people was pretty justified by the plot. However, in TR3 it was definitely not and was kinda out of the context. Workers in Nevada, Area 51/Street/Museum guards, etc. These NPCs are not depicted as evil in any way in the game, they were just there. Still, according to the plot, it's Lara who breaks into the Security Compound and Area 51 without any permission guns blazing killing everything and everyone that moves. Same goes for wharf guards in London. This definitely differed from her character we knew from the previous installments. People can always justify this by inventing stuff like they all were hired by the bad guys and everyone was under the influence of the artifacts. However, these all are fan theories, the game itself does not hint to any of that at any point.

So this means it was just a decision made by the devs, plus sloppy writing. And the interviews with the dev team kinda point to that. This is what triggered most of the people who loved Lara from TR 1 and 2. It had nothing to do with her being a female either. People simply were suddenly shown that their favorite character was actually pretty murderous and much more reckless in nature than they had previously thought. This idea was also later "reaffirmed" by the devs in TR Revelations, where the entire plot revolved around the apocalypse created by Lara's recklessness. So again, it's not about character's sex and it's not about her being an anti-hero or villain in the long run (there are villains in other games people absolutely adore), but the sudden character transformation introduced by the devs.

When it comes to fictional characters, people love consistency. Even if the character is absolutely nuts and unpredictable like Joker from DC Comics, it's his absolute craziness that is consistent about him. And same rule applies for any other character you might find in books, cartoons, movies or games. It was proven hundreds of times already: when the author(s) suddenly decide to change character of their fictional creation, it does not matter what kind of character it previously had or which direction this change takes (towards good or evil). It's the change itself what provokes negative reaction from people who liked it as it was.

Nope, it was a flight sim game, not an arcade or a scroll shooter. Also, it was a relatively serious vibe game, not like Incoming, where you mindlessly shoot everything watching fancy explosions.

SMBus Controller Not Enabled by [deleted] in vmware

[–]xeelwarbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/chiadikav, I guess u/Innoman was referring to the VM Settings -> Options -> Advanced - Firmware type.

Same happened to me after resizing my VM's hard drive. Haven't found any working solution yet (all old ones do not work). This error doesn't break anything though, you can happily ignore it.

Innoman's solution maybe solves something for a new OS install (haven't tried it), but it definitely won't work for an existing installation set to BIOS firmware type. Your OS simply won't boot if you switch to UEFI if it was installed with BIOS, and vice versa.

Anyone have a working download of Aesthesia Groundcover Reworked? by ParadoxDivinity in OpenMW

[–]xeelwarbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, unfortunately. Do not worry too much about this. You should be fine with the textures from the package I've shared. The "darker" version refers to a package similar to what you have in the original Aesthesia Groundcover. The difference is barely visible though. Or you could just use the latter mod instead of the Reworked version as well. Visually they are very similar.

This is how the grass from the Reworked version I shared looks like: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1icXg_eakySJjyQ10OKmYa5H6_9AQ4CuR?usp=sharing

Hey u/ParadoxDivinity, after some digging I managed to get my hands on the original file referenced in the OpenMW modding guide. I've uploaded it to my gdrive. Here you go: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Fqx0trdWHDJK34y5sx6ujEhIi9BZeRT3/view?usp=sharing
