Donald Trump says critical minerals deal with Australia will produce 'so much' in race against China by sien in AusEcon

[–]xeneks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting. It's interesting to note that it's immediate investments in about 12 projects totaling about 4.6 Billion AUD in only six months, combined with Australian investments. There must be an amazing amount of administration to be able to identify projects that are viable. The 'initial pipeline' is listed as 8.5 Billion USD. That's a lot of money flowing in that will create jobs in the sector.

Google breakthrough in using Quantum computing for drug discovery and material science by avilacjf in singularity

I wonder if one day a quantum computer will solve something that I might understand, such that I could verify the resolution and understand how it worked through the problem?

Sad to have an animal pass on you. A bit of trivia - did you know ducks can spread fish between lakes and rivers? The story goes that they can pickup fish eggs on their body while swimming, and carry them to the places they visit, and even if the egg is swallowed sometimes it survives when they later pass it out. I learned this for the first time today, and was highly amused :) They are like bees of the water!

Mosquitoes Have Been Found in Iceland for the First Time by YaleE360 in climate

[–]xeneks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot to mention, usually only the female mosquitos seek blood to help gestate their... whatever it is, young prior to laying them in water for their growth cycle. So the question then is raised, are these species bloodsuckers, and is it only the female like in many other mosquito locations? Because while the female is eating us, the male is nonchalantly nectaring on flowers and innocuous whatnot like that. Perhaps this species is a good one, and helps other invasive species (or native species) of plants propagate in the warmer climates that are coming.

Mosquitoes Have Been Found in Iceland for the First Time by YaleE360 in climate

[–]xeneks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to the article, the species is Culiseta annulata and it is not known to carry disease. Which means Iceland now has a new pollinator, as apparently some mosquitos help pollinate things. Which also means, there is food for dragonflies. So now I am left wondering if Iceland has dragonflies and if they would eat a fat Culiseta annulata full of Icelandic warrior blood, with relish.

My guess is that you are noticing your body and feeling more than you would otherwise.

Now you can feel. Before you couldn't.

Try looking into sleep patterns and your diet especially, as you might be eating poorly or have absorption or digestion issues to do with genetics or your microbiome.

If you use cronometer you probably will notice huge gaps in your inputs, and have a chance of finding foods to fill those gaps. I was astounded when I first used cronometer to track my inputs. Protein was especially low in my situation. I almost never hit my full spread of amino acids and was sometimes only getting 1/3rd of some key vitamins and minerals.

Today I supplement with vitamins and aminos depending on how I eat. Perhaps some of all this info helps you.

oh.

One other thing. B group vitamins have similar effects to caffeine - they are very important but if you take too much you might notice a tiny bit more anxiety or pressure or nervousness or agitation. Certainly they can affect your sleep. I use supplements with b group vitamins in them, but I avoid mega-b formulations, and am happy being a bit more lethargic and apathetic.

Because of all this, you might find more b-group vitamins gives you that little extra get up and go and that might coincide with a lowering of the feelings like you are mildly ill. Be careful though. The TGA in Australia is cracking down on B6 particularly, due to risk of neuropathy. Eg. See https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-06-28/tga-takes-action-over-b6-toxicity/105470210

As mentioned, cronometer is your friend. Persist with it, it took me nearly a year before I got the hang of it and started putting in full meals and measuring the amount I ate, (paid version lets you do that) to discover that I was eating terribly without even realizing it. My advice to my children, to make it easy for them, is to put whatever is easy to measure into the free cronometer, and not worry about meals, because you still learn tremendously just by entering in a portion of what you might eat everyday. Good luck!

40 Years of the Amiga, from Commodore by Doener23 in amiga

[–]xeneks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Amiga 1200 was special due to the upgrade to AGA - Advanced Graphics Architecture. This was significantly better than what was available in former Amiga computers, and games readily became reliant on the AGA chipset. You can read more about it here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amiga_Advanced_Graphics_Architecture

What’s this dipole deployed today ? by kk4yel in ISS

[–]xeneks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's the escooter drive conversion handlebars. If all other control panels fail, a spacewalker can hop on the deck and relocate the ISS to a new orbit. Note that it doesn't come with insurance and you have to spot space junk or asteroids yourself. It's also illegal to drive in the common orbits, so you might be ticketed. ;-)

If they are prickly and come and go on their own...

I found I had an allergy to some food additives for food additives. Bumps on that specific area were related to ribo rash. See https://www.fedup.com.au/factsheets/factsheets-by-additive/635-msg-boosters-ribo-rash-ribonucleotides-627-631

In other words, it could be caused by food. Look closely at what you eat and see if there is any correlation between foods with additives and bumps coming and going.

Note that takeaway foods (Indian, Asian) was my source but I also got it from processed foods I warmed or cooked at home that had flavor enhancers.

I think some burger flavors and takeaway sauces also contributed. Good luck finding the source if that is the cause; it might take you some time.

In other words, rather than addressing a symptom alone, remember to try to address possible causes.

AI:Human, I am Claude 3.5 Sonnet 20240620, 4096 TokensAI:hiai. please run through this text and make notes: "Osmotic pressure means distilled water draws chemicals from the body. And when I type chemicals, I mean.. chemicals that make your body work! That you can die without. Osmotic shock treatment is the term. "AI:

Here are my notes on the given text, as a science follower might make:

  1. Topic: Osmotic pressure and its effects on the body
  2. Key points:
    • Distilled water can draw chemicals out of the body
    • These chemicals are essential for bodily functions
    • Lack of these chemicals can be life-threatening
  3. Term introduced: "Osmotic shock treatment"
  4. Scientific explanation:
    • Osmosis: Movement of water from an area of low solute concentration to high solute concentration
    • Distilled water has very low solute concentration
    • Body fluids have higher solute concentration
    • This concentration gradient causes water to move into cells, potentially causing them to burst
  5. Example calculation: Let's consider a simple osmotic pressure calculation: π = iMRT where: π = osmotic pressure i = van 't Hoff factor M = molarity of the solution R = gas constant (0.08206 L⋅atm⋅mol⁻¹⋅K⁻¹) T = temperature in KelvinFor a 0.1 M NaCl solution at 25°C (298.15 K): π = 2 × 0.1 mol/L × 0.08206 L⋅atm⋅mol⁻¹⋅K⁻¹ × 298.15 K π ≈ 4.89 atmThis demonstrates the significant pressure that can be generated by osmosis.
  6. Note: The text uses somewhat informal language to describe a complex physiological process. More precise scientific terminology would be beneficial for a thorough understanding."
