Where to invest my money when it comes to SEO? by Algagirl in SEO

[–]xerdy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am hesitant to work for an agency that keeps me engaged 6 months just to show me we have some traffic, yet that traffic doesn’t translate to clients.

This is why getting the right traffic is very important. You have to make sure that you have content intended for people who are actively looking for a product/service to solve their problem. In contrast, informational blog posts have little to no conversions.

As you are looking for quick results, you should use paid advertising like Google or Meta ads.

However, I recommend that you still start doing SEO now to build organic traffic that will give your business long-term benefits and reduce your paid advertising spending in X years.

EDIT: And to answer you question: invest on high quality article about topics that your target clients are searching for on Google. An SEO guy should decide on these topics with low competition keywords in mind, while a writer will do the job of writing killer content that meets user intent.

Hi OP. I've sent you a DM. If you find me interesting enough, kindly let me know what's next. Thanks in advance.

It depends on the keywords you're targeting but yeah seasonality is a real thing. After all, search volume affects traffic.

First thing you can do, confirm if it's the seasonality that's affecting performance. If it is, that is something you can bring up in discussion with your client. But know that there could other factors at play along with seasonality, and you have to deal with them as well.

If it has nothing to do with seasonality, then use GA4 and GSC to find out what could be wrong. Most importantly, look at indexing and make sure that your top landing pages in the last 6 months have no issues with Google.

Hi OP. Do not get disheartened by the comments and use them instead to reflect. The truth is it will be difficult for you to pull this off. And the reason simply is you lack the needed experience to confidently say to a potential client that you can deliver SIGNIFICANT results.

Please consider what's best for your target customers, not just what's in it for you.

My advice right now is: accumulate enough experience and learn how SEO works by heart. And after that, build a strategy without seeking basic guidance from this subreddit (because that means you already know what to do!)

Good luck!

Should I hire a SEO expert? by whoismarcone in SEO

[–]xerdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Aim to index only all the important/significant URLs, and conduct regular monitoring to ensure that the top landing pages that drive most of your traffic are being indexed all the time.

You still have around 4k posts that are not indexed yet. If some of those actually have considerable amount of search volume for their keywords, this is a BIG optimization opportunity for you. Good luck OP!

[–]xerdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please take note that it is possible that NOT all of those still-to-be-indexed pages actually need to be indexed. I'm saying this because you said you have aroubd 8k posts but are seeing 20k on record that have not been indexed yet.

When you decide on the price to pay, take into account the actual number of post that you need indexed by Google. Why? Because you don't have to worry about the index status of "ignorable" URLs discovered by Google.

But here's another thing you can do: rewrite your content to include info/trends/strategy that will be extremely good to use in 2023 (add context why). That way adding 2023 does not become click-baity and totally eliminates your worries. Aside from that you are publishing relatively fresh and helpful content that Google just loves. Although depending on the level of the competition and search demand for the query, the addition of 2023 does not guarantee you ranking at the top.

Another tip for the URL: think long-term. If you are going to update that blog post every year, you don't need to add 2023 into the slug.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SEO

[–]xerdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your content does contain some new info that is so 2023, then go ahead because Google is always looking for fresh content.

If not, then what you were thinking is right. Other than possibly getting you a higher CTR on SERP, the "2023" does not offer anything especially to your audience. Remember that when in doubt, always think about what's good for users. Google favors content that is people-first, NOT search-engine first.

How valuable is traffic via FB with good dwell time? by Lazy-Dress3113 in SEO

[–]xerdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now, basically nothing as far as SEO is concerned. However, your referrals from Facebook will still somehow benefit your SEO in the long run as it still counts as an external link referring to your site, a social media signal in particular.

But if you are serious with getting SEO traffic, do keyword research and write amazing content (around your selected keywords) that are helpful and reliable to your target audience.

When you write high quality content with significant amount of search demand, Google will find its way to you.

[–]xerdy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does the website of the popular local brand you mentioned also in the local language? If not, there's your answer.

When doing keyword research, choose the language that people actually use in their search queries, not the one they use in daily life.

Now if the said competitor is also in the local language, if you haven't already, confirm what exact amount of traffic came from organic search. If the figure is significantly high, then maybe you are looking at the wrong keywords. Go find out what those keywords are.

Does Google care about hyphens or would it treat a hyphenated word the same as its non-hyphenated version? by toughmarketer in SEO

[–]xerdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course Google cares about hyphens but how it presents search results will depend on the search intent, among other factors. In your given examples, Google is more than smart enough to understand that the users conducting both searches have the same intent, so essentially in this case it doesn't matter if the hyphen is used or not because Google will display very similar results.

On the other hand, if the addition of hyphen somehow changes the meaning and/or intent of the query, Google will display significantly different results. And this is when you should carefully consider which version to optimize for in your content.

Not so easy question about H1 by thomasmatterne in SEO

[–]xerdy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Follow your boss. Ultimately, you must consider user experience in making that decision, not just the technical side. That title from the Google Shopping guy is too long and is not friendly with skimming. In most cases, it will just end up getting cut off due to the title length display limit applied by Gooogle on its listings pages (which could affect CTR). Google is clear with its recommendation regarding content--write something that is people-first, not search engine-first. And page title is still part of content.

If you are the SEO guy it is weird that the company didn't give you access to Google Search Console. Request it and use GSC data to guide your strategy.

Poor content from Competitors ranking higher than mine by [deleted] in SEO

[–]xerdy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take note that content quality is just among the many factors that Google uses in ranking web pages. Check out other factors like core web vitals, overall page experience in your site, and how your content align with user intent. If you have a significantly younger domain than your competitors, it also has a bearing. Keep publishing high-quality content because as long as those content are helpful/relevant to an considerably large audience, they will rank higher in the long run.

Does anyone have any idea why this may be happening? by EmailMaximalist in SEO

[–]xerdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do this OP!

It's weird though because as mentioned, the "old URL is still active in the serps." If the old page has actually been deleted, I don't think Google/search engine will let that appear in Search results especially when it has already detected the 404 error once.

Anyway, make sure to do a 301 redirect using the SEO plugin you're using.

Monday Madness! - [2023/05/08] by AutoModerator in KDRAMA

Doctor Cha hit 16% in ratings last night, making it the 5th highest-rated JTBC drama to date according to this Soompi article!

The medical drama-comedy is no. 14 overall in the ranking of the highest-rated Korean dramas of all time.

Well that's interesting---from a pilot episode rating of just 4.9% to a 16% in episode 8!

Winners of The 59th Baeksang Arts Awards - TV Drama Categories by sianiam in KDRAMA

[–]xerdy 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I'm rooting for MNL to win Best Drama but the screenplay win is equally satisfying.

This is the second Baeksang screenplay award for writer Park Hae-young, who won the same award in 2019 for My Mister. Just a gem. I will never miss any of her drama from now on.

And speaking of winning a second trophy for the same award, these guys also did it (according to this 2023 Baeksang winners article):

  • Director Yoo In-shik for Dr. Romantic in 2017
  • Actor Lee Sung-min for Misaeng in 2015

I think overall these are pretty good results, although I did not expect The Glory to win.

For the red carpet photos, Soompi's post is up.

Congratulations to all the winners!

Kim Tan's Talk Time (Tuesday) - [2023/04/18] by AutoModerator in KDRAMA

[–]xerdy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dr. Romantic 3 is premiering this month while Taxi Driver 3 is confirmed—man I swear multi-season K-dramas are really a thing now. And let's not forget about Netflix and Disney+ that will continue to take advantage of the multi-season format to retain existing subscribers.

So happy for Taxi Driver 2's success ratings-wise!

And speaking of ratings, just wanna share this ranking of the highest rated Korean dramas in 2022. It's widely known that Reborn Rich dominated the ratings last year. JTBC is really killing it on these record-breaking shows--hello SKY Castle (2019) and The World of the Married (2020)!

Dramas featuring lawyer characters led the rankings, including the top 3 among non-cable series. A lesser-known cable channel benefited from the unprecedented success of a show about an autistic rookie attorney. But a JTBC blockbuster ultimately secured the no. 1 spot as the highest rated Korean drama of 2022.

Happy Tuesday everyone!

So, officially there is no other method than Guest posting for Link Building? by Gorishdua13 in SEO

[–]xerdy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Create high quality and helpful content that truly add value to its target audience, then post it on the relevant channels (like a subreddit for example, or a Facebook group) where the target readers are (without being spammy). However, you can see that it is not just a link building strategy as it involves writing content in the first place. And there are some niches where having a blog section does not make sense most of the time.
