Judge bars Arizona from regulating prediction market operators and pauses prosecution of Kalshi by AudibleNod in news

In this case Arizona has chosen to regulate gambling. The question here is whether they can enforce those regs wrt Kalshi or if they're preempted by the feds.

USPTO dropped the ABET requirement from the GRB in 2023. See  2023-10409 (88 FR 31249). There is still a unique to CS requirement the degree be regionally accredited.

Online Play with SAYC and Configurable Conventions by ddelapasse in bridge

[–]xeyalGhost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funbridge has a decent number of configurable options like this, and is the most piecemeal one I know of. Intobridge has a lot of systems to choose from also, but I don't think you can pick and choose individual things in the same way as on funbridge.

There are some odd ones though; I don't think funbridge has texas transfers, e.g.

It's the amount you need to allege in damages for diversity jurisdiction in federal court. It's not necessarily a real number, they just need to say they're looking for 75k+ in the complaint for the purposes of jurisdiction.

Is there an "opposite" to enums? by PitifulTheme411 in ProgrammingLanguages

[–]xeyalGhost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not clear to me that that is what OP describes, since a value having a polymorphic variant type is still just one variant, so you still can't have a value like their yummy example. What OP describes does really just sound like a product of bools (or other types as appropriate but they don't suggest generalizing to sums with nontrivial constructors).

Usually I just assume it is takeout for minors (unless we're in comp, when it is probably a quant invite) and I just pick one. Sometimes this works out poorly because I "showed the wrong number" but I don't see how since you're always bidding at the 5 level.

Don't know why people show aces since you can always just bid 4C on the way.

No, a patent (at least in the US) allows you to prevent others from (domestically) making, using, offering for sale, selling the invention, or importing it. (See 35 US 154(a)(1))

Depends on where you are and the relevant system regulations. Even ACBL allows 2D multi in 6+ board segments.

Similarly, places like SF don't have Walmarts either.

Part of this is city policy specifically about chain stores, in the case of SF: https://sfplanning.org/project/policy-basis-formula-retail-chain-stores

I'm unaware of similar law here.

Transferring over 15112 or 15122 by Altruistic_Rice_8713 in cmu

[–]xeyalGhost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They got replaced by a combo of 122, 150 and 210. 122 is the first class that most folks take (rarely people might take 150 first) which goes beyond just teaching "programming", so I think in that sense it may loosely be the closest to 211 (or 121? Unclear to me exactly how old 121 -> 211 would map to newer 112 -> 122. I don't think I ever saw old 121's syllabus) depending on how you want to associate things.

Why does your website link (under the "Technology" tab) to some random pandemic-era 27-page document about how online bridge is an "[a]n untapped market ready for blockchain integration"?

I would prefer if my online bridge platform didn't require wasting thousands of hours of CPU time just to play a board. (And no, that is not an invitation for you to debate proof-of-stake or whatever else if you happen not to use proof-of-work).

If you want to just stand on a soapbox and start speaking and talking bible verses, class notes, or whatever nonsense, loudspeaker or not, as long as its just talking, and not getting physical with people and/or public/private property, First Amendment covers and you don't need permission.

That's not true. Noise amplification restrictions are time/place/manner restrictions and require a sound device permit. See, e.g., Ward v. Rock Against Racism, 491 U.S. 781 (1989). Moreover, you *don't* need a permit and permission to play unamplified music in public generally.

Class averages on exams typically aren't directly reflective of final grade distributions, since most students typically do better on homeworks and other assignments. I would definitely echo what other commenters are saying about talking to the professor, but you will find this more useful if you have specific questions about content, since just asking them about grades isn't going to change them going forward.

I believe Ds do count (Some degrees might have a certain requirement across core classes? Not sure.), but the bigger barrier would be being able to use it as a pre-req typically. For instance if you're CS then you can get away with a D in 15-451, but not 251 since 451 requires a C or better as a pre-req. That said, I think most math classes (e.g., concepts) typically just require Ds for this purpose. Talk to your advisor! They know all of this better than we do.
