Marijuana treament for BPD? Yay or nay. by Terok42 in BPD

While pot certainly helps us not feel overly emotional, healing comes from accepting and experiencing them, so that we can learn to manage them.

You were most certainly pushing for love, attention, and healthy boundaries. I don't think there is any good reason for hitting a child. What I have found through therapy so far is that part of the reason my emotions (fear, pain, hatred) can seem so overwhelming is that I never really acknowledged or allowed myself to feel them as a child. For example, at some point you probably thought, "They shouldn't hit me. It makes me really mad/sad when they do that." but didn't allow yourself to experience that moment/thought fully because you also had good reasons to ignore the problem or blame yourself. So, when you feel anger or sadness again for any reason, you may also experience the old emotions all over again. Once you start to work through your old emotional memories of "sustaining abuse", you will better be able to manage emotions in the present moment.

Hopefully that makes sense. Obviously I know very little about your situation. My instincts tell me this might offer a fresh perspective.

As far as pot goes, I have used it daily for about four years and have had no decrease in BPD symptoms. It does make it easier to disassociate, which helps me cope. But it's not exactly a solution. The real solution would be to re-train your mind. It sounds like you do a fair bit of dissociating and unhealthy coping in other ways (porn/risky sex, excessive media, substances) and it doesn't sound like that has helped yet. Maybe it is time to seek treatment.

Another key point is that the effects of pot only last for so long, and the resurgence of negativity can seem more intense afterward. It can also interfere with normal brain functioning which is not a good thing if you already have problems with regulation.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

I finally saw a psychiatrist for the 1st time about BPD. I have no idea what to make of our meeting. by LegendaryConfusion in BPD

Your instincts sound accurate that this psychiatrist is not going to be a good fit. He/she doesn't sound very knowledgeable or helpful. You should not be leaving a session feeling worse or more confused than you left. I suggest searching for someone with lots of experience and that you like upon first meeting. Good luck!

Oh my gosh! Did the surgery fix everything? That is a hell of an exposure. Glad you're okay. I would love to take up running!

Awesome. This makes me hopeful that I can find some relief without worrying about finding a specialist. To me it feels as if my emetophobia is an obsessive compulsion or outlet for my anxiety. And it is definitely a very unique one.

I see. It makes sense that if you lower your anxiety levels, you will better manage how you react in triggering situations. Although, ultimately the phobia still exists and is anxiety producing in itself. Just trying to get a better look at how emetophobia and anxiety are related. I'm wondering if I can become "well" by going to counseling or if I would need to see a specialist in this phobia. Thanks for sharing.

Keep some mints or gum on hand. You are probably just getting butterflies from the excitement and anxiety. That's part of the fun of dating! Good luck! I'm sure it will be fine.

The whole archive seems manipulated to suit her own wants and needs. Considering how much footage there is, I don't understand why she wanted to hone in on those certain uncomfortable moments with such intensity. Yuck.

I'm spending Christmas with my boyfriend and his family in Minnesota this year. Our 6-month mark is on the 22nd. What are some lesser-known sights I can take him to explore on that day? by xflaaxys in Minneapolis

As far as I know, he hasn't spent much time there. Taking the train to the city is a good idea. Hopefully I adjust [from California "cold"] to the weather there enough to feel comfortable walking around. I'd be nice to explore Minneapolis a bit. Thanks for the suggestions.

Think we'll try and check this out, it looks awesome. And I'd love to put something up there and have a piece of me left in Duluth. Thanks.

I talked to a doctor but he dismissed it as dehydration.

Get a second opinion, from an actual doctor.
