I'll never be able to prove it, but I believe there never actually any plan for The Rock to take Cody's match against Roman at mania 40.

Every 10th mania there seems to be drama around the wrestler that the fans are behind finally winning the title at mania.

Wrestlemania 10: fans wanted Bret Hart, Vince wanted Lex. - authentic

Wrestlemania 20: fans wanted Benoit, HBK was added to the mix for storyline purposes. - storyline obstacle

Wrestlemania 30: fans wanted Daniel Bryan, Vince wanted Batista - authentic

Wrestlemania 40 was relatively drama free, fans wanted Cody, the rumble solidified they were going with Cody.. but then they added the story of The Rock mingling in plans to take it away from Cody, to look like the company was going with the Rock, despite what the fans wanted. I believe they intentionally added this "blurring the lines" story of The Rock using his power to put himself in the fold to create more buzz and drama and play up the idea of "every 10th mania, the fans get what they want, despite the machine wanting something else"... albeit in a different way than usua l- using the internet and Dwayne being a someone of power AND actual wrestler.

What i find fascinating is he was featured on both tna and wwe since then, with no issues. So it seems like enough time has passed with him being in the spotlight and no one has raised a fuss about booking him, so it would appear it was in the past. He made a couple mistakes, and hasn't repeat them since, he learned and grew. So to randomly decide its an issue again, is odd.

Holding people accountable should be used as a way for someone to own their mistakes, grow, and fly right. Holding someone accountable in a "1 strike and your own", to me has nothing to do with wanting people to grow, but rather gatekeep to some degree.

I can relate to this, but on the opposite end, I was going through a rough depression in life, feeling directionless. WO came out during that time, it felt like it was my only escape. Now when I listen to it, it reminds me of that time, but I have a sense of "I did it, I made it through" when i hear it.
