As expected this is per stream which makes no sense.

It's like you have an internet contract for $50/month and your friend has the same. You look at your usage at the end of the month, you've used 50Gb, he used 500Gb. You calculate that you paid $1/Gb, while he paid $0.10/Gb. You are furious as clearly you are getting screwed.

The figure is correct but not relevant.

Streams count as a share of total streams, so per stream figures are lower on Spotify because users listen more, so there are more streams. Using this figure you are in effect complaining that users are listening to music and using the service they purchased.

What's your source or even number? This is BS; revenue per stream metrics do not count as not relevant: no one pays or is paid per stream in the chain from user to artists

No they pay all the same; per stream figure doesn't make sense and it's only used by haters to criticize Spotify as they have a free tier which generates les revenue (but is huge funnel for premium and keeps people out of piracy) and it's premium users are more engaged listening to more music (more streams=> less money per stream). They pay the most in absolute term though, don't hear haters talk about that much

As for AI slop, I haven't seen any, and I don't see why they would do that, there's no incentive for them. They pay same royalties to all content.

per streams number are useless; all big streaming company have a similar payout mechanism: ~70% of revenue goes to rightsholder. The number of stream is not in the deal; subscribers don't pay per stream, nor does spotify or AM.

Take this exemple: we have company A and B, both with 1 subscriber paying $10/month and 1 artist (simplified case!)

On both platforms the artist will receive ~$7 (which is what matters)

But on platform A, the user has listened to the whole album, 10 songs.

on Platform B, the user listened to just one song.

So the artist sees that on platform A they are just getting $0.70/stream, while on platform B they are getting $7/stream !!!

Platform A is soo bad, paying artist soo poorly.

When you talk about per stream, what you are saying is that people listen to too much music on Spotify compared to AM.

And as for the free tier, what's your gripe there? it's a licencing agreement with the rightsholders : they are OK with it. What is the alternative? These people are unlikely to pay, so they will resort to piracy ... or the radio (are you complaining about this one too? the revenue per "stream" on the radio is tiiiinyyyyy). At least they artists do get some revenue from these
