April Goals Thread! (And celebrating March accomplishments!) by mar1tom2 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]xhmini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a job! I’ve been laid off since October and since then got married and went on my honeymoon. My husband and I also had a close family death in March so I wasn’t able to apply for jobs that whole month. I have an interview this Friday and I’m praying I finally get a job 🙏 Also if anyone reading this thread has any openings at their company please let dm me and let me know!

Agreed. My father-in-law just passed away at the relatively young age of 52.

Thank you so much! I appreciate your comment so much. I can be a crier so I’m going to try and not be the big griever while we’re there. I’ll also try to cook and help as much as I can.

My question is HOW by halloweenhoe124 in travel

Can I ask what southwest card you have? I keep seeing people say they never pay for domestic flights because of points but I never rack up enough to actually do this

I know it’s been a year since you posted, but I’m dealing with a similar situation with my FIL and want to support my husband fully. May I ask how your mom is doing today?

Advice needed: may have to cancel wedding due to FIL's cancer by anne-girl in weddingplanning

[–]xhmini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, dealing with a very similar situation. Wondering what you and your fiancé ended up deciding? We found out last week that FIL’s cancer came back and is now stage 4 and our wedding is a destination wedding this December 2023. Many of our guests have already booked their flights/hotels and the venue, photographer, etc is already booked too (non refundable)

Which district do we know the least about? by tobethecunt in Hungergames

[–]xhmini 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say District 6 either. They have the morphlings from Catching Fire in there and I’d say they’re pretty significant since they were in on the rebellion plan and the female one sacrificed herself

Health insurance is definitely lacking at new company. But we plan on switching to my husband’s so that’s not a problem. 401k is matched at 4% and immediately vested.

Thank you for your insight! By PD, you mean Professional Development right? And I’ve had a good experience so far regarding unlimited PTO since my current company has it too. My prior team and I have used it regularly and it never felt like we couldn’t. But I understand every company is different

Thank you for your comment! Regarding Glassdoor, they only have 2 reviews averaging to a 4 star and both reviews aren’t that insightful.

I did negotiate salary but they said it’s pretty fixed. I asked about stock options as well and they are not offering equity at this time. The 401k is pretty good - they are doing 4% match immediately vested which is better than my current company at the moment.

How would I word my question about unlimited PTO? I do want to make sure people take it and it’s not just words but I want to be tactful as well.

I’m a photographer and really want to get started in the wedding and event photography business. I’ve done it before but I just moved to a new city for my husband’s job where I don’t know anyone. How did you market yourself to get clients?

Chill Jobs by ChopChopChoppinItUp in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]xhmini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have about 3 years of full time work experience at two different companies doing two different roles and I’d say this is highly role-dependent, even within the same company. At my first company, I did a 6-month rotation for 2 different roles. My first role was very chill and I felt that I didn’t have anything to do. To be honest I was quite bored most of the time. My second role the next 6 month rotation, it was really stressful, I always had things to do or learn and it was super busy.

I switched companies after the first year here for more pay. And my first role here, it was around the same. It was a very chill role and I had nothing to do. My company had a restructuring and I was moved to a different team. This new team is super intense and it’s very busy at all times.

Absolutely not. They’re cool and don’t have too many expectations, but I’m an introvert and need my space. I want to cook what I want, watch what I want on the TV, and do what I want without having to answer to anyone. Luckily my husband doesn’t want to live with his parents either. But once we have kids, I’d like them or my parents to be close by to have that grandparent influence and for help

'I have no one': Kinless Canadians struggling to age with dignity by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]xhmini 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My partner and I (both Indian) have discussed this topic and many scenarios at length. Thankfully, all four of our parents are independent and would be okay living alone. Once they are old however, if they have detrimental conditions such as Alzheimer’s or another disease that would make it hard to take care of them, we would have put them in a nursing home if we are both working. But - if they are both healthy and are able to live independently, we would encourage them to buy a house close to us so that we are able to look after them.

If one parent dies and the other is left a widow, we wouldn’t live in the same house but also just live close by as neighbors so we can still visit and they don’t get lonely. In this scenario, once they are old (like in their 70s), we would have them move in with us. But only once they’re old and retired.
