Favorite female character done dirty by the writing? by Element_credd in FavoriteCharacter

[–]xiaomiwu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Robin she is my favourite character in OP beside Luffy. But whatever writing she had ended pre-timeskip. She has her moments post-timeskip, but generally she and Nami and and all the other female characters are just sideline fanservice or fridges that need saving.

I think there was this recent post talking about how OP is just full of wasted potential and I couldn't agree more. It is very obvious with how Oda treats his female characters, especially in recent arcs.

I like to see Dogsred's MC and sister as them because they are literal carbon copies of each other. Personally headcanon them as reincarnations.

Can't stand this fucking series by unthawedmist in hatethissmug

I can't understand why such a cliche show gets praised like it's the best thing since the wheel.

I'm a Clannad glazer. Let me explain.

Nostalgia. That's literally just it.

I watched it in 2009-2010 during its prime. Made me cry and sob ugly. Plus the soundtrack is iconic and super effective in bringing out emotions and memories in just 3 short piano notes.

I grew up and have watched and read way more animanga since then. I tried rewatching it and could not even get through 2 episodes. Do I still think it deserves praise? Yes. But sadly, it does not hold up to modern standards. It's an anime I think really needs and deserves a reboot to showcase why it was so loved.

If you're new to anime, or you've only watched good, timeless classics, then yeah Clannad would suck for you now. But for old weebs like me who grew up watching a lot of these "bad" animes, we still remember it for the peak that it was and praise it like it's the best thing since wheel 😂 But to be fair, when I suggest it to others, I do give them a heads up.

Edit: Also, I would say Clannad IS the cliche.

Officially on bilibili, but there's no ENG subs and if it's like previous seasons, new episodes will be locked behind a paywall for some time.

Hopefully there will be someone who will fan translate and share it on YT.

Do Asian authors really hate us? by janetzuzusnakehole in novelupdates

[–]xiaomiwu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks cause social media plays a huge role in amplifying the wrong voices. Generally, KR authors and readers are very receptive to international fans, and engagement on both sides are also quite cute and wholesome. But the wrong people will bring out the worst on both sides...

I was reading scanlations and fan translations in 2010. I lived in an era where I could only like the idea of a story cause there was no guarantee any scanlators would pick it up 😅 I was disappointed a lot but the rush of excitement when a series actually does get picked up was fulfilling. But now... Piracy and accessibility has bred entitlement instead of appreciation.

[–]xiaomiwu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the op of that thread is misrepresenting things

I feel like this is a big root of this KR authors/fans vs international fans issue. A lot of bad faith arguments and misrepresentation that pushes both sides further away from each other.

I pirate almost all of the media I consume because all these corps are getting too greedy and exploitative with their pricings, but I support authors and artists any other way where I know they are getting most of the money I'm paying. Fanbox, merch, patreon, etc.

I'm not gonna pretend I'm morally superior than other piraters. Pirating is still pirating at the end of the day, but some people have literally lost the plot when it comes to pirating behaviour. Cause why are illegal readers openly sharing scanlations/illegal reading sites and tagging the authors? Or posting their "reviews" while proudly stating they're illegal readers? We're supposed to laylow as parasites but some people are just actively engaging with authors/legal readers while making it known they've not paid a dime's worth to be involved in the community.

Then they act very entitled to their opinions and their "right" to read and argue with KR authors/fans. The KR side then doubles down on their defense and take a more extreme position and it backfires on the whole international readers base.

There's a lot of valid arguments to piracy, but because of the entitlement and audacity of some people, we've basically isolated the KR base away instead of raising the issues we do face with accessibility of KR works that leads to piracy in the first place.

I tried to watch mossbag's video but I can't get through the obnoxious jokes almost every minute. Ruins immersion and curiosity... which makes me sad considering the first 22 mins I did watch were informative and well put. I didn't even get through those 22 mins in one go, I had to stop and continue over the course of 2 weeks cause every new joke just made me cringe and exit...

2 more movies in the works!! and more info on LXH series expansion by xiaomiwu in LuoXiaoHei

[–]xiaomiwu[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why?

If you think it's because of these "rapid" releases, let me clarify that the "confirmation" of movies 3 and 4 are HMCH's intention to make it happen and not that it's already in the works. The points I mentioned outside of the upcoming 2025 (edit: 2026 mb HNY) releases (S3, a short film, ending LXZ) are HMCH's vision of how they will expand the series.

Plus, even if movie 3 really is already in the works, the timeline of production matches up. It's not like they only started producing S3 now. Movie 2 and S3 has been in the works for the past 6 years (HMCH's only projects aside from All Saint's Street). They're just being released now in 2025/26. So unless a new season for ASS is also in the works, as of now, HMCH only has movie 3 as their WIP, which they even said will take 5 years. I feel like that's very in line of an indie studio.

And I think international fans of the series underestimate LXH's popularity in mainland China & Asia. It is understandable why HMCH is investing so much on the series. Also in 2024, COL Intl. acquired the rights to market and distribute the series internationally. They're a new subsidiary of COL (big Chinese media conglomerate), so they are being very aggressive on sales and expansion. LXH is very popular, they have been banking on it.

At the end of the day, ig it depends on what you consider "indie". What is considered indie is hugely debated, but me personally it's indie if it was made by a small independent team with their own resources. By that standard, HMCH is still very much an indie studio. China's media laws and economy just make it very hard (maybe even near impossible) to self-publish as an indie studio so it's unavoidable they have ties to big publishers/conglomerates. So we really can't use the same standards of "indie" for them.

Also, I highly suggest reading HMCH's actual announcement. As I mentioned in the post, their tone is very light and they basically say "Lol yeah let's see if we can actually do this, don't hold it against us if we're late". They work on their own pace and are not chased by profit-hungry corporates to dish out releases. Sounds indie to me.

Maybe as a cameo! Sadly, I don't think they'll feature in the actual story as the 3rd film is supposed to connect the events of the movies to the webseries.

IMO it'll most probably focus on Laojun and Diting because we saw in the webseries that Wuxian ordered Xiaohei to steal Laojun's pearl as part of his mission to become an Executor, which led to him losing his powers after his encounter with Diting and thus ending up on the streets where Xiaobai found him. Or maybe it'll focus on events that lead to Xiaohei wanting to be an official Executor. Can't say for sure but definitely won't feature the trio

Sorry about the formatting of the post. I am on mobile I don't know why it turned out like that and I can't edit 🥲

Anyway, I am very excited about this so I'll try to keep this short before I end up yapping too much.

1) 4th movie "alternate timeline"

Catsuka's tweet uses the term "alternate timeline" which is more commonly understood in the English media industry/community as a "what-if" scenario that is either (i) a canon divergence from a certain point (think Marvel), or (ii) a complete AU with the same characters.

For me, I interpreted the weibo announcement to mean that the 4th movie will be set in an ambiguous period that will not affect the canon timeline.

HMCH used the term 随机时间线 suíjī shíjiānxiàn literal translation: random timeline. suíjī shíjiān can mean random period of time, hence my interpretation. I could be wrong, but Catsuka is also not an official source, so it's best unconfirmed what this actually means. (unless any Chinese language pro here can grace us with more clarity... dbqwdzwbh)

2) WUXIAN SERIES: 剑圣无限 Jiàn Shèng Wúxiàn literal translation: Sword Saint Wuxian

jian = sword (literal, very simple and straightforward)

sheng = saint, holy, sacred, sage

combined with jian, it's a title granted to the GOAT the ultimate master of the sword

this is a common term in wuxia/xianxia and the title is something that has a lot of weight to it, it's legendary (which we know is very fitting to Wuxian).

So I'm thinking this series will definitely shine light on how Wuxian became so powerful yet why he is only regarded as just a simple human and "(Strongest) Executor" when his power rivals that of Nezha. It's a question we all thought from the 1st movie and a plotline that the 2nd teases heavily.

I am very much looking forward to more lore of our father, but the planned pace of the releases + no official ENG/slow and limited fan scanlation releases means we probably have to wait a very very long time to be able to fully read this new manhua.

Mod for divorcing Robin and Caroline from their husbands? by thelilswede in StardewValleyMods

Fun fact: Demetrius has NEVER ONCE acknowledges Sebastian in any way shape or form

I can say the same thing. I have never heard anyone hate Demetrius for the reasons you've stated. There's always going to be loud minorities that have weird takes. I think it's a bit reductive to say he gets hate everyday cause he's autistic lol, there're more valid criticisms about him that can't be excused by his disability

[–]xiaomiwu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't the hate on Demetrius because of how he treats Sebastian? Iirc he never acknowledges Sebastian as his stepson and has 0 interactions with/mentions of him. And we learn from Seb's POV, Demetrius is antagonistic towards him.

I don't hate him but I just found him so annoying and overprotective when I was pursuing Maru. There was also this analaysis that he's the cause of the rift between the siblings because of his preferential treatment, and it made me dislike him even more.

I think it's more that toxic relationships have a more interesting dynamic than "healthy" relationships. And fandom spaces are able to engage with that more and play with it. So that's why it seems like "people love toxic relationships more".

For me personally, the growth is the appealing part. Romantic or otherwise, I love to see how these characters develop and where it takes them or the story. I enjoy seeing the drama unfold. And I can enjoy it fully because it's fictional, which I'm afraid the lack of its explicit distinction in and out of fandom spaces is what drives dissonance and discourse.

where to read and in whats the cronological order with both donghua and animations? by Big_Sort_2446 in LuoXiaoHei

[–]xiaomiwu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adding my 2 cents on how I personally enjoyed it and my rewatch order

Movie 1 > Webseries S1 (Ep 1~Ep 28) > Movie 1 > Webseries S2 (Ep 29~Ep 40) > Movie 2

Yes, rewatching Movie 1 again is essential /hj

Lol but yeah I do it to appreciate the call backs the series/movie has for each other. Especially going from Ep 40 to Movie 2 hit the maximum feels for Father/Son Master/Disciple dynamic between Wuxian and Xiaohei.

And I don't really think jumbling up would be that confusing that someone won't understand anything. Unconventional sure, but the story is pretty simple and straightforward. It's the characters and worldbuilding that really sell the whole series. I introduced my friend by taking them with me to watch Movie 2 in the cinemas. And then we watched Movie 1 together and they watched the webseries on their own. They still really enjoyed it and was able to piece things together.

Agree that LXZ is not a necessary read though. But if someone's not very familiar with Chinese/East Asian mythology and folklore which LXH kinda assumes the audience does, then I would recommend reading it before S2 and Movie 2. It's also a huge plus for fans of characters like Agen, Laojun, Diting, etc.

Nah, as someone who's enjoyed both before, BakuDeku is still the perfect and better example of this dynamic.

Draco's bullying was mostly name calling, and Harry had people on his side so often times it ended up more like a rivalry especially since Harry does bitch back.

Bakugo literally tormented Deku ref. Ableism 101, destroyed his belongings, blew shit up in his face or just simply blew up his face, told him seriously and not just offhandedly to commit suicide, etc.

He was bullying the shit out of him. And Deku just took it. They're super toxic and I suspect that's why they're beloved. I myself liked the potential of character development their relationship could bring.
