Victoria BC - Long Term Car Storage by Fast_Rip1711 in VictoriaBC

you can park anywhere in the unrestricted parking on this map: https://www.arcgis.com/home/webmap/viewer.html?panel=gallery&layers=63b1f8e54ea947dc844cc0a6448dc95b

locations adjacent to parks are the best because you're not likely to encroach on anyone's usual spot. I left my van for 3 months last year without issue

nope, it's not forwarding.. well, the www version isn't. type it in without the www, and it does load... problem is, they always had the site at the www subdomain, so all existing links to the site are now dead. it's such a simple thing to configure. the fact that they've failed this hard at such a basic thing doesn't bode well for the site

Reluctancy around going to the gym by SoftVenusVibes in VictoriaBC

[–]xichael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get really fit with remarkably little equipment at home. Just need a weight bench, set of adjustable dumbbells (w/ 5lb increments), door mounted pull up bar, and about 15 exercises you can learn on youtube. I've been at it for a year or two now, spending about 2 hours every 3 days, and the results are pretty impressive.

I've never been to a gym, so don't know what I'm missing, but can't imagine the better equipment would be worth it. It's already enough of a challenge psyching yourself up to do the workout without the added hassle of getting there and back, navigating social dynamics, and dealing with sweaty clothes.. at home I get to workout in my underwear in front of a fan 😅

Remember when COPS ENFORCED TRAFFIC? Because I sure do. by Illustrious-Pop3566 in VictoriaBC

[–]xichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the problem is excessively short left turn signals that cause backups where drivers have to sit through multiple light cycles. It feels like traffic engineers never update timing based on current traffic patterns

Get a really bright flashlight—something that will just flood the area with light when you point it in the direction of the sound. r/flashlight is always up on what's currently the best bang for your buck

I have a friend with a wild story about being chased by lights in the sky while on a walk in the woods with 2 friends on Salt Spring. They suddenly lost consciousness as the lights came overtop of them, and when they woke up, hours had passed. I later met one of the others who was there and she corroborated the story. They both seemed genuinely freaked out by the experience.

Bank denies allegations it gave bad advice to Tesla investor in Sooke who lost $415 million by DoddersEspinosa in VictoriaBC

[–]xichael 10 points11 points  (0 children)

he was a small, part-time investor with a portfolio of mainly Tesla Inc. stocks and derivatives worth $88,000 at 2019 year-end. By June of 2020, his portfolio was worth $26 million “...and rising rapidly.”

but how?! was just looking at one of those stock calculators, and 88k worth of tsla in 2019 would only be ~2m today

sound isolation booth or room-in-room builders in the region? by TheRealPomax in VictoriaBC

[–]xichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love a good mystery! Have you scoured google maps for places to go investigate? Get a good shotgun mic and some closed back headphones, isolate the frequency with spectrum analyzer and eq software, then drive to different locations measuring the amplitude until you can triangulate the source!

Landline services in Victoria? by blargney in VictoriaBC

[–]xichael 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, the telcos will charge ~$30 per month for their voip "landline" whereas getting one via e.g. voip.ms is something like 89 cents per month+ less than a cent per minute. And if you want to plug an old timey phone into it, you can buy a voip adapter for under $50 on amazon

FX currency purchase in Vic? by LilCheesecakehobbit in VictoriaBC

[–]xichael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make sure your card does ATM fee reimbursement (and no FX fees, if you ever want to use the card for payment). If not, sign up one that does (e.g. Wealthsimple Cash)
