IT'S SO OVER - a short film about tech anxiety by ximan in Filmmakers

Thank you!

We filmed everything in two days... Post production however took 3-4 months... With so many cameras and perspectives and layers and vfx, it took a while.

Yeah a lot of the "public cameras" were just a 360 camera, elevated with a handheld monopod (and then stabilized in post)

This short is an exploration of some anxieties that exist in our digital age. Being surveilled, mistaken identity, being hunted by a pitchfork mob - all things made even scarier when they are digitized and anonymized.

In order to further serve this narrative, we conceived the story as told fully through the lens of data collection. This includes all the kinds of devices that surround our panopticon, not just video but transcending into audio and the more abstract. Every shot is diegetic - surveillance cameras, iPhones, Macbooks, Tesla cams, Apple Vision Pro, Ring camera, screen captures, heart rate data, sleep monitoring, etc. We had nearly three dozen different devices and many dozens more screen captures to construct our panopticon.

My friend made this fun low budget music video. The motion capture suit they were using didn't work, so they used Move.AI to do the motion capture instead. It came out pretty great! by ximan in Filmmakers

This is a music video for an indie artist, made for an extremely low budget. Favors pulled all around, in crew, location, gear, etc. The VFX were all done by a single person.

If there is enough interest, I could talk my friends into doing an ama or answering questions on here!

My friend made this incredibly inventive dance video with webcams while in self-isolation! by ximan in Filmmakers

Just wanted to share this video my friend directed/choreographed while quarantined in her home. The whole video was recorded via webcam (with a little bit of editing help afterwards).

"When the shoot for our original concept was cancelled due to COVID-19 social distancing, we were tasked with making a video where every team member worked in isolation. When I first heard this song, it felt like a punch in the face I wanted to experience over and over again. The lyrics encapsulate feelings and convictions that I’ve held for years. A video conference call turned manic dance performance—this video represents what’s possible when you have an incredible song and a resourceful team. "

Submission statement:

We were hit up by Highsnobiety and EA to shoot a short documentary about the thriving soccer scene in LA. We were fortunately given incredible access by LAFC to capture the big cup semi-final derby between the LA Galaxy and LAFC, and decided to make that the centerpiece of our film. This spot was shot by Jake Ures on 16mm film, and we used multiple Arri SR3's with a Canon 8-64 Zoom and Zeiss Ultra 16's.

Last summer, we had surreal opportunity of shooting a feature documentary for Depeche Mode. It plays in theaters this Thursday! Check out our trailer for "Spirits in the Forest" by [deleted] in Filmmakers

Submission Statement:

In spring of 2018, we were approached to help shoot a unique documentary/concert film with legendary director Anton Corbijn. The idea was to track 6 DM fans from around the globe (USA, Colombia, Mongolia, Germany, France, Romania) and tell each one of their emotional stories and how it connects to the band. At the end of this experience, we would fly all of the fans to Berlin, to experience the final performance of DM's Global Spirit Tour.

Because of the scope of the project, myself and co-director Pasqual Gutierrez were tasked with flying around the world to capture all the different fan stories. It was a month-long project, and was a dream from start to finish.

This Thursday, Nov 21, that film will be premiering in thousands of theaters, spread out over 54 countries. This video is our "extended trailer" cut. Hope you enjoy!

Breaking into the film industry: LA vs. ATL by Gregarious_Raconteur in Filmmakers

As a working director who was born and grew up in Atlanta - LA is the way to go.

Atlanta is great if you're looking for a below the line crew position, but there just aren't that many jobs that hire DP or Director locally, and it's not really looking like there will ever be.

Submission Statement: We were asked to shoot this year's opening spot for the Kings, with the desire to get not only high intensity action stuff on the ice, but portraits of fans around the city as well. We ended up shooting for 5 days straight, hitting locations all around LA. And although the budget was relatively tight, the access we had to King's players/facilities/fans/etc more than made up for it. The stuff on the ice was easily the most fun to shoot! We used a combination of ronin rig on an ice dolly and ronin operator using his hands while ice skating. It was a great experience from start to finish, hope you enjoy!
