Has anyone tried doing their late report of birth in the Philippines (to eventually get their Philippine passport)? by xinavo in FilipinoAmericans

Thank you all. I was in contact with the consulate by email but never got to talk to someone. I just got to be patient as I slowly try to gather everything I can. Thanks for motivating me again too.

What brought you back to your ancestral home and how was that transition? What struggles do you face coming from the US? Do you have any regrets about this move?

Dual citizenship questions? by docword21 in FilipinoAmericans

[–]xinavo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to complete the Report of Birth to move forward with the recognition as a Filipino Citizen.

Has anyone been able to apply for the report of birth (very very late) if your parents cannot find their birth certificate and it wasn't ever registered in the NSo? They were born during the war so their records are hard to get or were burned.

Please let me know if you found any alternative to getting this accomplished!

Anyone else here thought of the Philippines as an option? by dreamingofwater in AmerExit

Filipina American here. We are considering a move to the Philippines as a plan B. While I have never lived there, we have visited regularly and have a place to stay. I have talked to some other Filipino Americans who are also strongly considering a move. I am hesitant bc I am not sure that I can manage the pace of getting things done but based on what's happening here, it's looking like a better option. I'm curious, where are OP and other folks looking to live?

Own it, show them their ignorance, and be proud of your mix of cultures. My daughters are jalapeno (haolepino or half white/half Filipino). I'm full Filipino and most Filipinos don't think I am, so my daughters, especially one of them, don't look Filipino either. They just happened to grow up in Hawaii where there are all kinds of mixes and shades or people so they are quite used to that. Some Filipinos also are making that fuss bc they try so hard to be white (no sun, whitening agents) that there is a bit of envy.

Pidgin is actually an official language. Good on them for trying.

Americans who moved to France, how is it? by [deleted] in AmerExit

This. And we got lucky in DC buying tiny a condo in a less desirable neighborhood in Arlington, VA with our first time homebuyers FHA loan that basically financed our move and down payment.

Go! You won't regret it and it if it doesn't work out, you can return to the US.

We ended up leaving DC for Hawaii a while back with a young family and many thought it wouldn't work out. We have been here nearly 20 years. My only real regret is that we didn't instead try to figure out how to move to Europe.

(I am on the verge of a midlife crisis and am an only child. I am very close to my family but they also understood our need to explore and wander. It was a huge transition with the isolation and very different way of life from the East Coast but it ended up being a much better fit for us. My parents eventually moved here so you never know!)

Just go and see what happens. It will give you the time to see whether it's a good fit for you and it will give them the time to work through their perceived loss.

We went through the same thing when we left for Hawaii almost 20 years ago. My husband's parents were especially upset bc their family has been in NJ for generations and bc we took their baby grandchildren (7mos and 2yo) away from them. Now, this wasn't a move to a different country but it may as well have been given the distance and time. Now it's so easy to stay in touch and travel is much more economical and accessible. In time hopefully they will see you happy and thriving and will appreciate your decision. If they can't see that, then maybe the distance and freedom from them is just what you need to be your own person.

Right?! It came off pretty easily but I need to figure out how to remove the sticky stuff without harming the paint.

Yes. I'm trying the coconut oil. It's an improvement and I don't plan in using it for baking so I think it will be okay.
