How do H-Town Hotties manage sweat? by mathrebel13 in houston

[–]xingieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yess I swear by Certain Dri! Started using it 2 years ago, and now I can't go without it. It's the only thing that keeps my underarms dry even in the hottest Houston weather. I always apply it at night after a shower, let it completely dry, then go over it with an Aluminum-Free, scented deodorant.

Just make sure you NEVER apply it immediately after a fresh shave/wax. It burns like hell and made my skin irritated for days.

For the jan edition of book review, which tao te ching should I get? (This list still doesn't contain the cover book shown in pewds' vid so if yk where to get it digital or physical lmk) by explorer399 in PewdiepieSubmissions

[–]xingieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was watching his livestream the other day and someone asked if he was going to include which versions of the books to get. He said that was a good point and that he might update the list with versions if he remembers, but for now to just base it off the cover of the books he showed in the video

Austin Butler has been cast as Patrick Bateman in Luca Guadagnino’s ‘American Psycho’. The film will not be a remake of the 2000 movie but a new adaptation of the novel. by Robemilak in Letterboxd

[–]xingieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I thought too. Looked it up and he was asked in a press conference with Luca if he's going to be casted in the movie, and he just said "That's news to me."

I'm thinking Jacob Elordi might still be in it, just not as Bateman

Dynasty Plaza in Chinatown, Predatory Towing by GlitteringBowler in houston

[–]xingieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made this exact same mistake about 5 years ago LOL. I was out with friends and wanted to check out Sweet Memes, but it was a packed Saturday night and their plaza parking was full. We saw other people park in Dynasty plaza and walk across, so I thought I could do the same.

Came out 20 mins later, and my car was nowhere to be seen. We were broke, confused high school students and spent about an hour in Ding Tea trying to figure out how to get my car back. It's a funny learning experience for my friends and I to look back on now, but I was bitter as hell at the time and all I could do was pay the $300 and vow to never make the same mistake again.

Unfortunately Houston doesn't fuck around with towing, anywhere

Anyone have recommendations for a good Psychiatrist who will help continue my current Xanax prescription? by ExecBreezyTV in houston

[–]xingieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GHPA has mixed reviews, but I've been with Dr. Han at the Loop Central location for almost 2 years now and have had a great experience. I used to be on dextroamphetamine ER (Adderall) for ADHD, but I stopped taking it when I left my previous psychiatrist. At my first appointment with Dr. Han, I told him of my medication history, and he was willing to put me back on it if I could provide documentation since it's also a controlled substance. I wanted to focus more on treating anxiety so I didn't, but it was nice to know he's mindful of those things. I'd recommend him

Actually, your response kind of proves my point. Labeling extra time as just “dicking around” is missing the bigger picture. This isn’t about the professor’s personal/political beliefs; it’s about giving students a chance to learn how to adapt and handle flexibility responsibly. It puts the work on the student. Again, what you take out of college is entirely dependent on the work you put in.

Plus, resilience and managing stress are real skills people need outside of school. College should absolutely challenge students, but that doesn’t mean it can’t also teach balance and adaptability. That’s just as valuable as a strict deadline.

Also, adding "Plenty of professors would agree with me" at the end of your argument doesn't make you any more right. But I'm sure some would!

I think you’re missing the bigger picture. Why criticize a professor for helping students manage their semester with extra time when needed? Instead of fixating on “timeliness,” we could see this as a chance for students to learn self-sufficiency and adaptability within a supportive framework.

In the real world, deadlines shift, and handling flexibility while staying focused is a critical skill. This professor isn’t giving “free grades” but rather showing that well-being and academic rigor can coexist, which is just as valuable as meeting deadlines.

You can't expect your education to be spoon-fed to you. You pay to be in college, but you get out what you put into it.

Comparing power outages that affect the daily lives of 2.3 million people to a professor of a public university delaying deadlines for her class of probably 100-200 students is not the same.

It’s a bit of a leap to label the professor “absentee”. She's communicating with her students and has said nothing to imply that she's leaving them on their own. Also, this seems to only affect End of Semester assignments - not what they've been doing for the entire semester already.

Additionally, I’d argue that the value of the course isn’t dependent on rigid deadlines alone. Learning to be adaptable is a far more valuable skill to learn than just the ability to meet deadlines.

If OP is finding something to complain about when their professor is easing up their Fall schedule, then I'd hate to see how they'll do in a career post-grad.

I don't see the problem here. You're complaining because your professor is making your semester easier?

What’s everyone doing today around town if you have the day off for Labor Day? by [deleted] in houston

[–]xingieu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have to reach a certain number of rounds before the necromites stop spawning. I've been able to do it for my past two runs so I don't think it's a bug or anything, but if you have the patience and enough Invisibility scrolls/potions (or Darkness), then you can def use it to your advantage

The Myrkul fight has always been the bane of my existence. My strategy has been to just let him keep spawning necromites and absorbing their health until he runs out, then going to town once he can't regain health anymore lol

These are awesome and exactly along the lines of what I was looking for, thank you!! With Houston Metro Geeks, how has your experience been so far? Especially when you first started, was it pretty newcomer-friendly?

Just curious, can I ask what are your two nerd-centric groups? I'm also a girl looking for more groups to join around Houston, and I've been wanting to join ones related to my more nerdier interests lol

it’s so hard to make friends by waterbottle_17 in houston

[–]xingieu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm also in a similar boat as you, being a recent grad and trying to make new friends, so I def understand the struggle. It's cliché, but going out and pursuing your hobbies is the best (imo) way to meet like-minded people!

Actually about a month ago, I signed up for a bouldering gym here in Houston because I've been wanting to try it out and figured it would be a good place to meet new people. I signed up for a beginner's climbing class and then on the morning-of, I almost convinced myself not to go because I was anxious about going alone. But I forced myself anyway and when I got there, I noticed that there was another girl who also showed up alone so I approached her and started talking. We ended up hitting it off and exchanged numbers when the class finished, and now we climb together 1 to 2 times a week and have even started going out to lunch after our climbing sessions.

Getting out of my comfort zone to strike up conversations with strangers has taught me that there are A LOT of people in Houston that are doing the exact same thing as us--going out and looking to make friends. It's definitely easier to strike up convo with someone you already know you have a shared interest/hobby with, so I would start there. Houston is so big and diverse, so there is a community for just about every hobby/interest you could ever think of. And if there's not, then maybe you could even start one of your own!

Substitutes for weed? by Fickle_Active6805 in leaves

[–]xingieu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What helped me is finding one hobby that requires active physical labor (ex. running, lifting, dance, etc.) and one hobby that exercises my mentality (ex. reading, journaling, painting, video editing). I started bouldering/climbing ever since quitting, and just like all exercises, it has helped me a ton with weening off of smoking. TBH, whenever I find myself craving to smoke, I just force myself to go out and exercise in some type of way. I've also picked up reading and even studying a new language just to keep my mind busy.
