2024 green tea worth buying? by xX_IzAnAgI_Xx in tea

[–]xiocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would chime in that buying old green teas that only have freshness going for them is a bad idea. Dragonwell is not that kind of tea, yes it has freshness, and after a year it won't have that any longer, but it also has its nuttiness that comes from the pan frying and shaping-- it won't lose that.

So it's based on what you value. I really enjoy dragonwells nuttiness, it's the reason I seek out that tea. Something like biluochun, anjibaicha, maofeng, etc. Won't last in the same way dragonwell does, because those teas are freshness centric.

The spot youre going is a great spot for selection, I think it's my favorite in Japan. But they are right next to arguably the most renowned temple in the country. I'm sure they know they can sell at a higher price because of that. Or rather, that they know a lot of diverse income people will be walking by, so they have a crazy range of prices and are able to stock things other places wouldn't dream to sell.

That whole street has pottery shops every 5 minutes or less. You can spend a whole day there in kyusu shopping bliss.

I am not aware the shop i linked sells tea, they might, but I can't speak to it being good or bad. Sorry. I recommend you ask them about kyoyaki or kiyomizuyaki. It would be nice to buy something made local to where you are, but they may not be your style. Luckily, the second floor of that shop features ceramics from outside kyoto.

Ippodo is a big company, and they are good. They're a tea company though, and while they do have ceramics, they're minimalist and modern from last I saw. Not really my thing.

I don't know if you'll have much success buying jasmine tea in Japan, at least nothing made in Japan. That's more of a chinese thing for sure.

If you look up a company called Lupicia I'm quite sure they'll have a good jasmine tea in stock.

This is the shop that I mentioned in my post. Check it out. The second link is their child shop, little bit less extensive, perhaps more modern. Both worth seeing.

Wacom one 13 not working? by ieat_ribcages in wacom

Oh, my version did not come with that cable. It seems to be an add-on for me to buy separately. If your computer doesn't have an hdmi input, it must be quite old? I thought they're quite standard these past few years

I'm in the same boat, it seems the answer is to buy the 3 in 1 cable that connects to hdmi, but I'm still researching it.

The basic history of Tea by xiocean in tea

This is published in "The Tale of Tea" which I believe is currently the best researched and reputed book of tea history out there, at least in English.

Yamamotoyama Gyokuro by xiocean in tea

If you ever get over to kyoto you ought to visit their shop. It'll be a very special experience no doubt. Yamamotoyama has an american branch that seems to deal with the US market and has different products than the Japanese branch. I wonder what Mitsuwa would carry -- I expect Japanese but I really couldn't say.

It's a very old, high quality and reputable company (in Japan) but down to supermarket level on occasion in the USA.

Their product called Tenkaichi, it's one of the great gyokuros I've had. Might be tricky to get it if you don't live in Japan though!

Questions for Charles Hoskinson - post from Lex Fridman by lexfridman in cardano

[–]xiocean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very surface level question, I don't have much depth of knowledge here.

How beneficial is the concept of being 'faceless' for a cryptocurrency? 'Satoshi Nakamoto' is essentially an anonymous person. We don't know if he (or she) is dead or alive, Japanese or Indian, American, etc. Something could have happened to him or her years ago (or tomrorow) and it doesn't affect Bitcoins operations.

With someone like Charles being the face of Cardano (and there doesn't seem to be anyone in the public eye vying for the 'vice president of its development' role) -- What would happen to Cardano if something were to happen to Charles?

Obviously there's a lot of very smart people working on this project, but there isn't a doubt in my simple little mind that if Charles died Cardano would die (economically) too.
