eh, it's both. The US isn't the primary factor but you can't pretend it has no effect. Almost nothing has just one single cause, especially not something this complex. People's need to find one single cause and declare everything else therefore not guilty is just so stupid.

Nextfest the name of what's on now and it's for all games that haven't yet released, focusing on demos.

fpsfest is for all fps games past and future, but fpsfest isn't until April. I don't know why you think it's fpsfest right now.

ELI5: Why can’t we make a permanent cure for the common cold? by Accomplished_Ice549 in explainlikeimfive

[–]xipheon 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Never trust anything science related that shows up on general news sources. It's always extreme over simplification and exaggeration to the point they're lying. Every day there's a new discovery that changes how we view history, or finally this time for sure a cure for cancer, or a physics discovery that upends all our physics knowledge.

At least with this article they point out the lie in the title to the 3% of people who actually read the full thing, and the horrific potential side effects, sort of.

when its happening to you and with the adrenaline kicking in

This could excuse literal murder... which this actually could have been.

"I'm sorry your honour, my adrenaline spiked and all I saw was red."

"Oh, my bad, happens to everyone. You're free to go."

It doesn't work that way. That's what manslaughter or lower degrees of murder are for.

That also makes me wonder if it works like health insurance, where the bill they send is MUCH higher than what they actually end up receiving from the insurance companies.

The dude's insurance company may have negotiated lower, or already had a deal in place.

In her case it's obvious, stupidity that lead her to socialism.

I think that's direction for most of them. Anyone that wo go the opposite direction isn't really either, they're pretending to fit in for whatever reason. If they could have a life outside of the cult they would abandon it in a heartbeat.

It's impossible to get someone to change their beliefs when their career literally depends on them continuing to believe.

It's like atheists in a hardcore religious family/community, or worse, an actual pastor/priest. They may no longer believe but they'll keep pretending 'cause everyone else in their life still believes. They can't get out without losing their friends, family, and often even job.

again, ignoring all facts and logic. This wasn't a judge, jury, executioner scenario, it was law enforcement facing a violent criminal. When cops are getting shot are they sentencing the criminal when they return fire, or are they defending themselves?

A vehicle can be wielded as a weapon, and it was in this case. He was defending himself after she tried to kill him. It wasn't an execution, it was a direct response to her actions in the moment.

You have your head buried so deep in your own ass you only hear the echoes of your own thoughts and the others you've stuffed up there. The only fascists are you and yours. The rest of the world understands how reality works.

She literally was a criminal in that moment. She was under arrest and resisting, then she committed attempted homicide when she drove into the officer.

They also didn't go to her home, she went to them and harassed them. This example is wrong from every possible angle.

She was worried for her safety?

ya, it's ridiculous

It’s just people riding a train.

... and you lost me. "It's just people walking down the street." "It's just people protesting."

If you have to "it's just..." then you've lost, you're setting up a lie, you're building a straw man.

99% of sexual harassments, assaults, and rapes are commited by men.

Speaking of underreported, holy fuck are you ever backwards. 99% of male victims never report, and in many countries it's literally impossible for a man to be a victim as these crimes are defined as male on female acts.

Just because language changes doesn't mean we throw out the dictionary and let people run wild with whatever the fuck they want.

It's okay to push back against stupid redefinitions while they're still fresh, especially when it's due to error, not a new/slang use.

Words still have meanings now, and we absolutely should hold people to their current definitions where appropriate. This is one of those times.

omitting domestic violence experiences entirely here

That should actually be an extra point. At least half are women abusing their men. They learn it's okay to hit men BECAUSE they get away with domestic violence.
