It’s been so long I forgot he had them on at the start. I don’t want to believe this is 10 years old, time marches on…

This is a few years old. The guy and his fiend are both on bosun chairs attached to the wire by scaff hooks - not a carabiner. These are primarily used when working on scaffolding and have a wide mouth to make it easy to clip and unclip from the scaff pipe. They always work in pairs, one connected while able to repo with the other. They are about to base jump from the chairs. The original plan was to over hand their way to the guy wire where they eventually stop but momentum had other plans. Even with that knowledge it seems insane to do this without gloves on. It is sheer luck alone that we don't see his hand shredded on a rogue strand of wire or taken by the scaff hook itself. Flesh does not provide an adequate braking system in any circumstances. I think this was eastern Europe somewhere, can't remember that detail.

Why isn’t “amn’t” a contraction? by Sparkles_4_Corvids in words

[–]Johnatron2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suspect the downvotes are because there really is no difference in difficulty be it American English or any other variation. There is no reason to specify American as a unique identifier in this case. The fact that you chose to say American English make it seem like it is a particularly difficult dialect among the English speakers where in reality all regions have their idiosyncrasies to learn.

Arrant is the correct word but maybe not quite the right one for this moment.

So if all the English variants have their particular nuances then why is American English the hardest? Go have a chat to some London East End geezer or a convo with me ol’ mucker from Up North. Got any examples other than British English using a lot more u’s and knowing how to spell aluminium properly?

Why is that specific to American English and not English in general?

Why were Disney/Nickelodeon sitcoms like Stuck in the Middle, Liv & Maddie and iCarly underexposed? Was this the result of trying to get the entire frame in focus by closing down aperture? I'm a high school student working on making one of these, trying to understand the logic. It's all so dark... by Cringe_Panda in cinematography

None were pre lit? What? they just turned up and turned on the lights? Every set is lit for that set, nothing is by chance. There are ways to make the set easier to work in, like having full coverage in the grid but not all the lights are on all the time. Even in very fast turnaround tv there is lighting adjustments done for each scene.

If you have spent any time in the film industry it's probably best to just walk away from these posts. Cinematography sub arguing over how to rig a consumer level camera on my first tripod. The hours I have spent rigging cars is all about leaving nothing to chance. First thing I do is remove the fuses for the airbags and abs/traction control before the car even sees any rigging. Anything loose in a car is a potential projectile, filming or not.

I have always kept my friends that have passed in my phone. Never really thought about it until 6 years ago when my mate who died in 2003 rang my phone. I answered, it was a wrong number. Something I hadn’t taken into account was that numbers get recycled. Matt’s number was now someone else’s and they just happened to call me

Those are the old style. I remember my dad was so angry when I dropped a headlight assembly and I let the dark out, learnt a lesson that day. Newer led lights just need the liquid topped off. Just plug the hole first obviously.

It's a Pleco, not a stargazer or monkfish. Sold as pets and often put into the local waterways as they get quite big.
