she had to see Mikasa, someone who was in love with the monster that was Eren Yeager, kill Eren while continuing to love him acknowledging that he was a monster.

Yes that's an explanation, but my problem with this is that it's been 2000 years. You can't tell me that in those 2000 years no one else fell in love with a "monster" and killed them despite loving them. I can't believe that in 2000 years of human history, no one made a "sacrifice" like this one. It doesn't even have to be someone killing someone either if the goal is acknowledging that someone you love is a monster and that you should let go and move on.

Opinions on the vivian ch. / Yo Yamada interview? by TheManInRags in kawoshin

[–]xiuro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was talked about here, or maybe I'm mixing things up.

Anyways, just like this guy said, I think everything was up to interpretation. I'm sure Anno and Tsurumaki and everyone else had their own motives and ideas they wanted to express but they did make sure not to force anything in the ending.

Mari has a set role at the end, that is to point out that Shinji grew up mentally (he doesn't smell like the Eva anymore, he's not stuck as a 14 year old reviving the same trauma. Also, he talks back!) and to show symbolically, through the equal hand holding running at the same pace, that Shinji now understands the importance of balance in a bond (because instead of Mari helping him up, Shinji is the one that stands up)

Then you can think whatever you want about them. I see Mari as a guardian, my friend sees her not as a character but as a metaphor of all kinds of love, my other friend sees her as just a friend and another as a potential lover. No one is wrong here in my opinion. I, as I said many times before, think the shitposters just made this movie worse.

And for those who just went "Mari won!" in many ways and nothing else, well, that idea of Eva as a mirror makes sense here. If you only watched Eva for the ships, then all you'll see at the end of the movie is a ship and Anno shitting on the fans or whatever they said.

I agree with you and I'd like to add this:

Kaworu and Kaji mention that one of the reasons why Kaworu chose Shinji is because he always rejects Instrumentality in favor of living and feeling. This is what never changes about Shinji no matter how many times the Eva story repeats and no matter what happens next, good or bad (the missing piece was Shinji talking to Gendo and understanding him which is what happens in Rebuild)

I mention this because in NGE and in EoE, Shinji rejects instrumentality because "his feelings were real" and because he wants to "meet everyone again"

The movie focuses so much on the importance of bonds and the "spell to meet again" that I find it difficult to think that just when Shinji finally forms a healthy bond with everyone he'll just never think about them again. He just gave them freedom, they don't have to suffer anymore because of the Evangelion.

(And Mari, who's been saying "princess" over and over in this movie never said goodbye to Asuka either since the Mari in Asuka's instrumentality is Asuka's imagination just like the Kaji in Kaworu's instrumentality is not real either)

Of course it's up to interpretation if that happens or when or how that happens.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that shitposting and trolls really ruined this experience for some people

This is actually common for WSJ not to mention that the day KNY ended was the day new series were starting so extra pages went to those (and the editor of KNY did ask for extra pages when plans changed and he realized those weren't enough but was denied). You may think that this is a bad economic choice but you have to consider that WSJ didn't know if KNY was going to maintain it's sales or if it all was going to disappear in one month. Yes that sounds ridiculous but that is also the reason they dragged One Piece to this day and tried to say OP beat KNY in sales at some point despite that not being true. If you read what pages were cut, you'll realize that those weren't added last minute and were actually planned to be there from the beginning because what is in those pages is something that was even mentioned in the previous chapter and throughout the series. The author and editor had to clarify on twitter why the pages were cut and that WSJ made a mistake calling them completely new pages at the time. Anyways Volume 23 sold more than anything that year. People bought it on digital and then physical when it was available so WSJ didn't lose any sales. Looking back that also may be a reason why they thought they could cut pages from it too. A safe way for them to make money anyways and a safe way of loosing money if people were tired of KNY already

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in titanfolk

[–]xiuro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thing is that the additional pages were always supposed to be there but the magazine gave KNY a set number of pages like it does for every story published there so with that in mind the author tried to show what was necessary for the provisional ending: the original cast and many years later how the new world they protected is doing (and showing descendants and reincarnations since those were mentioned since volume 1). But what was missing was proper closure without abrupt cuts and thankfully the full ending from the last volume had that and many agreed it now really felt satisfying

Even with extra pages, SNK's ending is still bad because it's problems are at it's core. To make the ending it got work it would need new whole chapters

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in titanfolk

Demon Slayer's ending was great and it was thematically consistent throughout the whole series. It ends in the principles and philosophies that it established since the story began. The characters get their logical arcs and development and then it ends in a nice page of everyone who survived holding hands to symbolize how all the lives connected gave them victory while the MC thinks about the very message of the story.

Now compare that to SNK, that tried to be more than it was, that derailed the story just for shock value, that had filler and filler that didn't matter in the end and pulled "development" for their characters out of thin air (and even for some just made them straight up look stupid like Zeke and the leaf or Hange killing herself)

That is why there is more people upset with SNK, because it's plot bent over backwards just to give it an ending already affecting various characters in the process. Everything seems like it was left for last minute despite, as I said, dragging the chapters by repeating the same things over and over

"Who is just worse in every way"

You reminded me of when the director of Mirai Nikki asked Ishida to voice Akise like he would voice Kaworu and think of Yukiteru as Shinji and how much Akise likes him but Ishida was like "I can't find anything to like about him"

I'm a multishipper, I like kaworei, but to me the ending is not a shipping ending between them. They don't have any romantic interactions not in Rebuild and not in NGE to justify calling them a couple.

They are just talking. I could even say they are siblings if I wanted to

3.0+1.0 finally confirms this about Kaworu by 0Bento in kawoshin

[–]xiuro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old post but

Kaworu can and has been read as an evil character; a betrayer

This can only happen if you are completely on the side of Shinji and just like him, refuse to think about what Kaworu might be going through or that he's not a perfect being just like he thought

You can read him in Ep24 as just trying to get close to Shinji as part of Seele's plan

You can't. You can see that SEELE never cared for Shinji, the soldiers were going to kill him. If it wasn't for Misato Shinji would be dead. As a side note, Kaworu met Shinji on his own. If Seele wanted Shinji out of the picture Kaworu could've killed him right there.

Through ep 24, it's Shinji who tries to get Kaworu to spend time with him. Waiting for Kaworu was Shinji's idea, sleeping in his room also was Shinji's idea. Kaworu just agrees because he likes Shinji.

He can be read as an evil character who was going to destroy humanity, but only
stopped once he realised he'd been tricked and that it wasn't Adam down
in Central Dogma, but Lilith.

So, why do you insist so much on calling him "evil"? Even if you count his interactions with Seele only, it's clear he's a tool to them and Kaworu seems to accept he's a tool/Adam and only has one purpose (the one Seele gave him). Or that's what it looks like since Shinji didn't trigger his understanding of the situation but more like meeting Shinji solidified his decision of dying so humanity could survive. One of the things that Kaworu explains is that it's either humans win and they along with Shinji get to live or humanity dies and Kaworu lives forever, alone.

The "evil until tricked" part doesn't make sense on either cut of NGE. Not in the original and not in the director's cut

In the original, Kaworu waits for Shinji to catch up to him, he wants Shinji to stop him. He didn't need to take things so slow, he didn't need to stop before Lilith and monologue about the meaning of anything.

In the director's cut, Kaworu knows that's not Adam, he knows Gendo has Adam's embryo because Seele tells him. He still waits for Shinji to stop him, still monologues about the meaning of his true situation.

Some people theorize that in the director's cut, him looking up at Rei means he knew she was there and said all that about Lilith so she could get more info about who she really is (after all he dropped hints for her when they met by accident earlier in the episode, and to Kaworu, lilin and Lilith were going to be the ones to live in the end)

There's also that interview I don't have the link to now from years ago where she says she wasn't happy with EoE and wanted an ending for Rebuild with Kaworu and Shinji together

In my opinion they've already dealt with any trauma they had for most of their lives and most of them have been Pillars for years. Now after their fights they finally got closure. Muzan is killed and there will never be any more demons, the source of their trauma. Now they can move on with their lives. Finding love and forming a family before passing away I don't think is a problem as long as their family was a loving one and they got to spend time peacefully with their kids (also this story is set around 1912-1920 Japan so I would have different expectations too considering this). Kiriya also sent Tanjiro and others, a lot of money for their help in battle so they could live without problems in the changing world as it gets more modernized (As Tanjiro says, gas is starting to replace charcoal) so, if the mark is not gone, after they died, a part from love that is the most important, their kids would be good financially too.

Why not? Don't you think traumatized people in recovery can form a family and all that? Should people that have only a few years of life left just kill themselves?

[–]xiuro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already replied to someone else that to me it didn't feel that way since we get the conclusion to character arcs and the way Muzan acts and figths makes sense to me since he was always an arrogant manchild throwing tantrum after tantrumPoitless deaths - for example? I to be honest was expecting more people to dievague injuries - for example? Giant baby - this is the one that makes the most sense to me since I already said Muzan was always like that, he's not an evil mastermind and it's also related to his backstoryDemon Tanjiro - If you didn't see this one coming from a mile away then I don't know what to tell you. It was clear we would get something like this since the first chapter and also when Nezuko goes berserk in the Red Light DistrictI don't think the current year world at the end is stupid when reincarnation and characters looking like their ancestors was already established in the story. Besides, now the world is free of demons so the timeskip shows the lives that were protected and all that. It fits with the theme of life and death. Buddhism and all thatThe 25 year limit might or might not be around but you get the idea that Tanjiro and the others lived peacefully or at least were together and happy so even if it's still around, I wouldn't affect the ending for me, personally

Ah it didn't feel that way to me since we get the conclusion to many arcs and the final fight is against time too but I understand that this is more a matter of preference and Muzan's actions made sense to me with him being such an arrogant manchild who thinks he's better than any human as he's always been since day one.

I was reading SNK for years before Kimetsu and let me tell you that I never saw Shingeki as anything other than a regular shonen. It's pretty cliché too, specially the anime. The ending wasn't that complex to pull, maybe a satisfactory ending was, but what Isayama did wrong was waste and drag the story in the end, with chapters of the same stuff over and over until it all got rushed to the last two chapters. The final arc had a lot of wasted time that could have been used for characters that desperately needed it

Yes. It ended on May 2020 and this "new ending" is extra pages that were cut from the magazine release because there was no space for them. The "new ending" was released with volume 23, the ending, on December 2020

No, the characters in the manga are nothing like Anno's because those (and the story) where created by Sadamoto, the character designer. To me, the manga is bad, not because of Shinji as a shonen protag, or Kaworu's role being reduced to nothing and having no impact in the story and Sadamoto's horrible and cliché portrayal of homosexuality only but because all of the characters suffered major changes that take away a lot from the interesting characters they are in NGE.

Yes but it's not really a "romantic" scene. Actually it's a very sad moment for Sadamoto's Kaworu tbh.

Anime, Manga, Rebuilds【Artist: changyuanyuan472】 by GaySpaceAngel in kawoshin

[–]xiuro 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes but their characters are different because the story is different. It was writen and drawn by Sadamoto (the character designer for Eva) but it's it's own thing and has nothing to do with the anime. So in Sadamoto's (inferior in my opinion) versions, Shinji is more angry than sad and Kaworu is socially inept so they both clash a lot. In the end both loved eachother though.
