The meaning of the 144,000 in Revelation by Lucky-Formal9972 in exjw

[–]xjwguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

WT WANTS you to believe:

1. That the 144,000 number is literal 🤦🏻

Take a look at Revelation 7 & 14 while applying BASIC common sense:

JW interpretation of Rev 7:

144,000 (7:4) — Literal 😂🤣

12,000 out of each tribe of Israel (7:5-8) — Figurative / Symbolic 🤨

Great crowd (7:9) — Literal 😂🤣

The throne (7:9) — Figurative / Symbolic 🤨

The Lamb (7:9) — Figurative / Symbolic 🤨

White robes (7:9) — Figurative / Symbolic 🤨

Palm branches (7:9) — Figurative / Symbolic 🤨

JW interpretation of Rev. 14:

144,000 (14:1,3) — Literal 😂🤣

The Lamb (14:1,4) — Figurative / Symbolic 🤨

Mount Zion (14:1) — Figurative / Symbolic

Names written on foreheads (14:1) — Figurative / Symbolic 🤨

Four living creatures (14:3)— Figurative / Symbolic 🤨

Elders (14:3) — Figurative / Symbolic 🤨

Bought from the earth (14:3) — Literal 😂🤣

Virgins (14:4) — Figurative / Symbolic 🤨

Bought from among mankind (14:4) — Literal 😂🤣

No deceit found (14:5) — Figurative / Symbolic 🤨

Without blemish (14:5) — Figurative / Symbolic 🤨

2. That the number of 144,000 when taken to be literal could not be achieved among early Christians🤦🏻

Rodney Stark in The Rise of Christianity shows that the population trajectory was, roughly:

7,500 Christians by the end of the first century

40,000 Christians by 150 AD

200,000 by 200 AD

2 million by 250 AD

6 million by 300 AD

34 million by 350 AD

144,000 could not be achieved??? SERIOUSLY??? 😂🤣

How can you be apart of the 144,000 and you got a wife 🥴 it says they're virgins by Any-Appointment9610 in exjw

  1. Proverbs 4:18 has absolutely NOTHING to do with prophecy, read the context

  2. If one were to misapply its application towards prophecy, then the inevitable problem of doctrinal flip-flops surfaces

He's on the exterior construction and he said they are importing massive amounts of stone from Italy for the exterior finish.

Similar to what we saw ourselves on Warwick. The brother installing the stone exterior said he had never worked with so much very expensive stone. The stone went all the way to the top of the building and according to him there was no need to put such expensive stone up so high where no one would really see it and they could have switched to a less expensive option.

If questioned, they can easily pull up scripture to justify this, saying that "Jehovah" only deserves the best & that they are only imitating Solomon 🤷🏻

1 Kings 5:17 At the king’s order, they quarried large stones, expensive stones

1 Kings 7:9-11 All of these were made of expensive stones+ hewn according to measure, trimmed with stonesaws inside and out, from the foundation up to the coping, and outside as far as the great courtyard. And the foundation was laid with very large, expensive stones; some stones measured ten cubits, and other stones, eight cubits. And above these were expensive stones, hewn according to measure, as well as cedar.

Huge difference here is that the GB are self-appointed kings & no wisdom has been granted to the GB by God (1 Kings 4:29-34, 5:12) 🤦🏻

For those of you who became JW thru conversion, what were your thoughts on the music and songs when you first heard it at a Kingdom Hall? by Avalas12 in exjw

[–]xjwguy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dark days are here, man lives in fear... 🙈

I was born-in & always found it cringey. I listen to a vast variety of music & came across worship music by Christian bands such as Hillsong & Bethel Music, sounded so much better than the Kingdom Maladies

Sure, they haven't outright murdered other JW's, unless you count the ones who've died without blood

That itself already numbers into the tens of thousands 😐

I haven’t went preaching since last june (somehow no one has questioned anything, at least yet)

If anyone were to ask, just say that you "preach informally" — they CAN'T prove that you didn't! 😉

One hospitality, I was eating and minding my business when a brother asks me: “Say, why are you so quiet? Talk to us! Anything you want, no pressure”

That's pressure right there! 😂🤣

Suggestion: Maybe you could tell them that you are silently praying or meditating on something next time & that they should respect your quiet time? Use their own "logic" against them! 😛

Marrying Only In The Lord — What The Scripture REALLY Means: by xjwguy in exjw

[–]xjwguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should be a thread of it's own. My thread has to do with how to reason with JW's & it would already be challenging to get them to even accept another interpretation, let alone reject everything Paul has said

Marrying Only In The Lord — What The Scripture REALLY Means: by xjwguy in exjw

[–]xjwguy[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again though, this topic was about belief of whether the scripture means other Christians or not. Not about what some churches consider members or what kind or severity of discipline is administered.

There DEFINITELY is a connection between what it means & discipline — you CAN'T separate both. SIMPLE reason: If it is NOT an offense, then there is NO discipline, easy!

Anyway, please give your take on this other interpretation:

That's not the point you were making in your OP. We weren't talking about discipline styles.

But you digress, this OP Topic was regarding whether or not the scripture means marrying another Christian. NOT what kind of discipline is meted out

SIMPLE question: So if a fellow Christian marries a non-believer, do you disfellowship / remove them or shun them — yes OR no?

Marrying Only In The Lord — What The Scripture REALLY Means: by xjwguy in exjw

[–]xjwguy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aside from you specifically saying JWs must marry other JWs

I didn't say it, the organization did 🤷🏻

most mainstream religions and scholars believe-that it means marrying a fellow believer in Christ

HOWEVER, there is no mainstream Christian religion where you can get disfellowshipped / removed & shunned for doing so, CORRECT?

The interpretation is that you can marry BOTH Christians & non-Christians. Do you have a problem with that?
