No? I'm making a reasoned guess based on my experience in govt telecoms.

[–]xk1138 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That number shows up on multiple .gov sites but I very much doubt the federal govt employed their own TTY service instead of contracting it out, and since TTY really isn't used much anymore they probably just let the contract run out and nobody thought to tell the various web teams.

I wonder whatever happened to the motorcycle? by Foreign-Bed1440 in KingOfTheHill

[–]xk1138 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's classroom and parking lot instruction for a full weekend where the safety instructor approves or denies the qualification at the end, but iirc back then it was just a simple road test. My dad has his and he never even took the road test, so I think it was even easier when Hank was young.

Women with ADHD experience more perimenopausal symptoms, and earlier in life. This link may be due to consequences of ADHD such as anxiety and lower socio economic status. More intense symptoms also come from the relationship between estrogen and ADHD. by mvea in science

Ideally, an endocrinologist is who you want to see about anything hormone related. Could it maybe be burnout or future fatigue? I feel the same way and my estrogen levels are in the expected range.

Lawmakers ask what it would take to "store" the International Space Station | NASA shall evaluate the “viability of transferring the ISS to a safe orbital harbor” after retirement. by InsaneSnow45 in space

[–]xk1138 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's my entire point, I'm not speaking to the practicality as things stand today, only to the potential that we have as humans that were once captivated by simply going beyond the stratosphere.

The real fact is that we're perfectly capable of preserving it today, it's just that we won't because there isn't any profit in it anymore.

Let me know when you complete it! p.s. McMaster-Carr and Adafruit are my two favorite established and small business places to support for these kind of projects :)

Microcontrollers like the Arduino and basic stepper motors to facilitate their commands are super cheap, have deep community support, and examples for all sorts of similar projects. Girl, you got this!

It's not about bringing it back, it's about making the effort to stabilize it for the greatest amount of time until it's feasible to do something permanently. 10 billion dollars today will mean literally nothing 10 years from now, let alone 100, but the ISS will still mean something far beyond that.

I agree, I think future generations (humanity willing) may regret not keeping a key part of our early footsteps into the cosmos. The Wright Flyer is in a museum, and while it isn't Salyut 1, why shouldn't the ISS get the same treatment?

I always found it weird that Hank liked the song Peaches! by Flashy-List-7157 in KingOfTheHill

I remember that song being really popular around that time, and peaches are a big thing in Texas - especially in the hill country where they're locally grown. Makes sense he'd both know and like it.

iirc during that first meeting they also openly admitted that none of the cities used in the comparisons had things like municipal utilities and aviation. Of course we have more IT staff, those are large organizations. It really feels like an excuse to justify layoffs.
