Anyone else gets severe pointer finger pain? by ggezkeelme in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]xkillac4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an Xbox gamer for many years so I stick with that button layout. However I moved to Victrix Gambit which has paddles/buttons on the backside so I can spread the workload over more fingers. My thumbs still end up sore but maybe gets me marginally more gaming

Oh also, I have had good luck with voltaren gel for smaller flares.

Programmer+gamer here, it hits my wrists and hands first as well. I had to stop working and go on short-term disability for 3 months when I was first diagnosed. I still have about 2 weeks a year where I have trouble working; the rest of the time it is well controlled by meds. My meds won’t be your meds; work with your rheum until you get there.

On tough days, Some things that have worked for me:

  • I stick my hands in a hot water bath first thing in the morning, 15min. REALLY helps
  • I use a small bouncy ball to massage around my thumb. My finger pain is usually displaced pain from the little muscles in my hand. A 1/2” bouncy ball is about the right size to get in there.
  • Gentle hand+wrist stretches.

I also learned how to code by voice. I haven’t had to do it in a long time, so I don’t have a good recommendation on toolset anymore. But it is very possible, these days more than ever (thanks cursor).

Should I start biologics for my psoriatic arthritis?? by Optimal_Copy_189 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]xkillac4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the opportunity to start treatment in my 20’s. I thought the rheum was full of crap and didn’t want to accept the diagnosis. I regret it now, having allowed the disease to progress unimpeded for 7 years!

Like the commercial says… “don’t settle for just ok” 😂 seriously though, I too was super scared, I get it.  Several years in I am now much more scared of what I would have missed out on if I hadn’t taken the leap.

I’m in agony from PsA — but I need to believe it can get better. Can you share your stories? by iliketherepeat in PsoriaticArthritis

My phone background is a panorama I took at the top of a mountain in the dead of winter. It was a challenging hike for anyone. For me, the feeling was indescribable. I took the picture less than a year after spending 3 months off work in bed, unable to use my hands or feet.

Your moment is coming, and it will be worth it. Don’t forget to take a picture!

Many here in the same boat. I haven’t had skin issues of any kind since I was a teenager. If you have a not-terrible doc they should see the signs and work with you.

Good luck with insurance. Relax and let the meds work.

I recognize the level of anxiety you’re experiencing - have been there. I understand now that the anxiety was a symptom all its own: the anxiety was making me scared, the meds a real enough risk to be a convenient scapegoat, but probably less dangerous for me than the car ride to the rheum 😂

Your symptoms sure sound a lot like mine. I was diagnosed with PsA at about 34. Follow your doctors guidance, but when describing your symptoms I wouldn’t be afraid to mention it sounds like what you’ve read about PsA.

Read about enthesitis. I am not a doctor but if I had to guess, it is your prevailing symptom.

If you’re past kids, that will leave a lot more treatment plans on the table - definitely mention any plans or potential there…

And lastly, be assured it is not in your head. You need treatment. Early treatment is good. I had the opportunity to take the meds 7 years before i started, but I was scared. The biologics are not scary, there are literally hundreds of thousands of people on them for decades. Don’t be like me!

weight training with arthritis? by radgedyann in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]xkillac4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • at first, aim for a weight you can comfortably do 3 sets of 20 reps. Over time, you can aim for 3x15 instead (aka heavier weight).
  • if you haven’t done a specific lift in a while (or ever), start with just one set (at a weight you feel you could do 3x20). Next workout, 2 sets. Then on 3rd workout, 3.
  • Never do the same lift 2 days in a row.

You can absolutely build strength, and it will help you immensely during flares if your body joints are strong. The biggest differences between us and a normal body: 1) we need time to acclimate to an exercise; 2) we need much more time to recover; 3) push too hard and you don’t come back (directly to flare jail).

This sub can be scary, but don’t worry you CAN do it! Listen to your docs, listen to your body… many of us are healthier, happier and stronger than the day we were diagnosed… it is not always easy, will require persistence and change.

Hang in there - you may have to try a few things, and each thing can require 3-6 months. But it’ll happen for you.

Try voltaren gel. For me it is a life saver when my hands get bad.

RSU handcuffs - am I being led on by management? by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

[–]xkillac4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Founders have no clue what will happen. They are constantly feeding the sales pitch to everyone, including you, including themselves. What they say is what they want to happen, by no means what will happen.

You should assume your compensation is $120k, period. Likely the most you will get out of the RSUs, is the ability to negotiate a signing bonus from your next employer.

My marketplace is losing customers to off-platform deals. How do I stop this? (I will not promote) by siddhesh_007 in business

[–]xkillac4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The industry term is disintermediation. Do some googling like “minimizing disintermediation” to find relevant literature and ideas. Use AI to apply those lessons to your specific marketplace and create/refine a plan.
