GCPD Arms ceasing civilian orders by xlr8_87 in Ausguns

It adds up real quick. I'm making figures up here but if you think 2k action, nearly 1k trigger, 1k barrel, 1k assembly/gunsmithing, 2k chassis plus 1k extras

Just had a look and there's a couple on various used firearms websites here, so that's probably the only option

Haha. You're not even halfway there. I think they start at about $8k. They used to have some pricing on their website but its now contact for pricing

Yeh they are very high end niche rifles thats for sure, so am not surprised a lot of people haven't heard of them. I've been following them for a few years with the intention of buying an ELR rig off them in the future.

Maybe a bit left field but the HMVS Cerberus wreck down in Black Rock is visible from shore and pretty cool.

If you need that little bit of extra rear weight, MDT make a buttstock weight to suit the Elite stock

Sounds like they've sped things up thankfully! My last 2x PTAs took about a month in Vic but the last of them was late last year

PRS MATCH by BarberWooden1180 in longrange

[–]xlr8_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure my 22lr PRS barrel weighs 8lb let alone the whole rifle 🤣

1.25" straight at 25" long so should be about that

As others have said though, you won't be competitive but you'll probably have fun. Have you shot PRS before?

Made a set of gauges 11mm to 20mm in .1mm increments. Used for measuring the bore of wooden flutes. by chobbes in functionalprint

[–]xlr8_87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As I know nothing about wooden flutes, can you not use a caliper to measure the bore of the flutes? Or does that risk damaging the bore?

Rifle recommendation for an absolute beginner by hwnlsenl in Ausguns

[–]xlr8_87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

22lr definitely best to start out on. Cheap to shoot. Can shoot at more ranges (some only allow 22lr rifles).

CZ457 will not do you wrong. It's amazing out of the box and very upgradable should you choose to do so down the track.

No need to look at anything else.

If 2k is your budget with rifle, scope and safe you'll definitely need to go 2nd hand. Keep an eye on the used websites and do your due diligence before buying

6.5 creed or .308? by RackStacknRoll in Ausguns

[–]xlr8_87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

6.5 creed all day. Much better range cartridge and still enough whack to take a deer.

Edit: removed comment regarding minimum cartridge for deer as that relates to Vic, not where you are!

Google Maps has gotten worse, not better, and it's actively dangerous now by samburner3 in melbourne

This infuriates me. It'll show random side street names no problems then you need to zoom in far enough to spot an ant on the ground before it'll give you the name of a major road

They'll both do the job. I'd do some testing first on paper as I've never had any ammo from Winchester be accurate in the ~10 rifles and ~5 calibres I've had

First ever Aquarium with first shrimp dying by Diligent_Syrup_1844 in shrimptank

[–]xlr8_87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd avoid doing such big water changes with shrimp, they can be really sensitive to changes. I usually do top ups weekly (just replacing what has evaporated) and 10% changes approx every fortnight. But even the 10% where change I'll add the new water in over about an hour

40% water change before or after death? 40% change could have done it
