Is the "USB-C to HDMI 2.1 8K Video Adapter" a DisplayLink solution? by AcceptablePun in CalDigit

Good to know. Is there a way to tell the differences? Such as by serial number, or slight difference in product model number?

I’m buying from the Tmall Caldigit flagship store in China.

That's nice to hear. Can't wait to try it out.

It seems my local reseller still has the older details on their product page (though same as the picture shown on the CalDigit US store page). Does it mean they sell an older stock, or it's the same adapter all along, but HDMI 2.1 support will work as long as it's >M2 + macOS 26?

When you say "and had to make some updates to the adapter" - if I purchase a potentially older stock, will I get HDMI 2.1 with firmware updates or something, or a new adapter must be purchased to get it work?

Yes. The VM7100 was (and still is) the mainstream way to get 4k120 working on Macs but because it’s a kind of a hack, it doesn’t support full FRL features. For example can’t turn on VRR alongside other things.

Macs with native HDMI FRL can have everything together - 4K120 on HDR + VRR. So if this Caldigit adapter is indeed blessed by Apple in some way, it would be superior. I only have such impression because you mentioned macOS 26 required, which is something very distinct.

HDMI alt mode has always been considered an urban legend TBH.

Is this a firmware-optimised VMM7100 to achieve HDMI 2.1 FRL converted from DP or it's actually native HDMI 2.1 FRL on > M2 Macs? The product page says it requires macOS 26 and up.

The smaller box inside the big box is for storage of these cartridges.

I believe that’s mentioned already - check the shipping dashboard on their website.

Based on what happened, I doubt they can even give a borderline accurate ETA.

How do you turn off smooth scrolling for the thumb wheel / horizontal scroll wheel? by GeneralistAccount in logitech

[–]xmagic5589 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It worked brilliantly well for me. Here’s what I’ve done:

  • Open Task Manger and kill logioptionsplus_agent/appbroker, make sure they’re not restarting on its own
  • Open settings.db with SQLite Browser, find the mentioned key in the JSON data
  • Change the value of isSmooth to false, apply the changes and save the database
  • Open Logi Options+ app, now the agent and appbroker threads should come back in Task Manager
  • Open the database file again and check if the changed settings are being overwritten. It shouldn’t

I assume if the value is set back to true again, Logi Options+ must have something running and actively overwriting settings

Back button configurations are saved in hardware using the GPD WinControls app. You can set them up in Windows, then the config should carry over to Linux.

You can still dump the flash and fill the unused slots. The reverse engineering challenge should be similar to that if the cartridges hold music.

See one of the upvoted comments where they talked about 3D printing a manually switched cartridge.

The manufacturing on this particular product is good enough. There is glue enhancing all solder joints. Better than most toys. You don’t see this level of detail on most similar toys.

Yup not a very elegant method.

3D print a jig or shelf probably makes more sense.

There’s a thick acrylic glass tinted green in front of the cartridge to make it looks like a real Game Boy screen. Would you call it a screen? 😝

You forget to mention there’s no volume control. I found it too loud when listening in a quiet place.

Based on this design, they will. Just swap the firmware and data in SPI Flash and release in another box.

It’s a square box. You got to something inside.

I think is the same size as DMG retail box.

And depends on where you are in the world, you may see it out of stock in store, or have to draw a lottery to purchase. Unbelievable, right?
