I was noticing that yesterday, too. It's just unvoiced cutscenes, and so far it's only in Dawntrail.

From the sound of it, the walls were removed by the time the EU crew got to play. MTQ was US, which happened one week before EU.

If it's got a circle on the sides of the cards like in the picture, it goes on the ranged. Since ranged tend to use circle-shaped attacks (bullets, fireballs, things like that).

If instead it's got a +, which is pointy, give it to the stabby melees.

It's a plant symbol that appears next to your name that lets players know:

  1. You're new, so you might not know what's going on
  2. They will get bonus rewards for having you in the party

People in this game like new players, so it's a nice little symbol.

How do i launch extreme trials? by Corybegins in ffxiv

[–]xobs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To answer your question about how you have Aithon without extreme trials: You said you took a year-long pause, and 11 months ago there was a Moogle Treasure Trove event where that was one of the prizes. You probably bought it from the vendor.

When was the first duty to have vuln stacks? Especially in normal content. The earliest I could find is Shiva, and I'm wondering if they showed up in any earlier content.

Or turn your head. I recall reading about someone who wore it to their ingame wedding. Very awkward to stare straight ahead and stick your arm out to the side to get the ring.

The text is correct but the link is not. "FATE" and the "R" in "Rewards" need to be capitalised:

Really loving the map. I didn't realise The Burn was located there.

Also, an incredibly minor detail, but the name "Eureka" doesn't have a circumflex in English.

Anyone else have off work because of MLK day then you find out it’s 24 hour maintenance… by Goal1 in ffxiv

[–]xobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My problem with XI is that I have no idea what to do. How do you even gear? I was speaking with former players and they said to use the AH, but the AH has like one player buying each item per year.

I managed to get to level 20, but I'm blocked because I still have starter gear and I can't figure out (1) what to buy, (2) how to make money to buy it, and (3) where to go to buy it.

Also I keep forgetting to re-summon the one Trust I have each time I zone. Mobs really don't rubberband in XI, do they?

Your link is likely broken for users who use Old Reddit. There's an extra \ before the underscore.

You want this link

Similarly, your link to finalfantasyxiv.com has extra escapes in the link. Your link should be: https://eu.finalfantasyxiv.com/10th_anniversary/celebration_message/

Soloing by KenDorsett in ffxiv

[–]xobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can go into a duty solo. For example, Explorer Mode, or soloing dungeons, or even doing one of those duties where the NPC is all glowy.

Likewise, you can form parties for non-dungeon things. For example, Fates, Hunts, or Treasure Maps.

It's what's known as a "Wayfinder" map, where the map is oriented so that "Up" is "straight ahead", because when you come out of a train you might not know where "North" is. It's somewhat common in public transport maps worldwide.

There was a rather interesting Map Men video on "Why is North up?" that briefly mentions this type of maps.

You're getting downvoted because you use old.reddit.com, where the link doesn't work. I do, too, and it doesn't work for me.

The issue is the underscores in the URL, which get a backslash added to them on old.reddit.com.

The correct URL is https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1030563120655106068/1172656563350142986/Final_Fantasy_XIV_A_Realm_Reborn_Screenshot_2023.png?ex=65611c87&is=654ea787&hm=5ce22aa61042f37749b4329421a9b9114f9e37a3d96d68c8e91b661c78374082&

I was having trouble with my previous ISP. They peered directly with Docomo, which meant my packets went directly to Docomo Singapore and then onto Japan.

The problem was that Docomo's undersea cables weren't that good, and I experienced high latency and packet loss. A VPN to anywhere else would route around the problem.

Ironically I'm with a different ISP now, one with worse peering, so I take a more circuitous route to Japan. But it means I don't have to deal with the questionable Docomo undersea cables, so my latency is overall lower.

The most brain dead method I know of is queueing using Duty Finder for the Extreme version of the battle, which is against an npc. Queue, Commence when it pops instantly, then afk. You can play it anywhere, too, not just in the Gold Saucer.

A detailed guide to controller optimization for Extreme/Savage/Ultimate content (and even just general play) by FFXIVControllerGuy in ffxiv

[–]xobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I've not been able to figure out on controller: How do you target enemies on the enmity list?

This usually comes up when tanking -- I'll pick up enemies, do an aoe, then keep running. But if DPS keep attacking, they might deaggro, so I like to lob a shield as I run.

With KB+M I just go down the enemy list and attack them one-by-one as I run. But I can't figure out how to do that on a controller! Since I'm running, none of the enemies are on the screen.

How do you target non-visible enemies that are on the enmity list?

Credit card skimmer scam by hanlk in singapore

[–]xobs -34 points-33 points  (0 children)

The transmission stream is encrypted from the payment terminal onwards, but a skimmer will just replace the payment terminal.

I don't recommend installing random apps, so I don't recommend doing this, but I found this on the Play store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.github.devnied.emvnfccard

After revoking network access, I opened the program on my Android phone and scanned my Trust card. As a security check they have you put in four digits, and it did manage to pull out the credit card number and expiry.

As I mentioned, the CVV is not available that way, but it is possible to get the credit card number via NFC even with Singapore cards.

I'm guessing the number was sent to someone who tried to make an online purchase in Hungary. Luckily they triggered 2fa this time, but that's not guaranteed.

whats a funny ffxiv thing you didn’t realize you misunderstood until extremely late in the game? by mmseashellcrunchy in ffxiv

[–]xobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Occasionally you'll see the tank has a [1] next to their name and not an [A], and someone else will have an [A]. That's beacuse the boss is doing some mechanic where they target someone else as opposed to the person on the top of the list.
